Hola! This is my first fic outside of the anime realm. It was written as a challenge fic for RyuuMahou. Drabble-istic! Yay! Hope it’s not too bad. Let’s keep in mind that I very rarely watch the show, even though I like it, so there’s bound to be some wrong facts. Sorry. Read and review please, even if it’s just to tell me it sucks. Whatever. :)

Pairing: RobStarWords: 759
Spoilers: Nada!
Warnings: Possible OOC-ness, and my complete lack of knowledge about cooking technology on Tameran. Oh, and complete and utter pointlessness and randomosity.
Disclaimer: I don’t own squat.

The Sun
"Robin," she'd asked him one day as the Titans returned from another successful mission. "Why are the leaves of the trees changing their colors?"

"'Cuz the trees are angry!" Beast Boy said jokingly, laughing at his own attempt at a joke. "They don't like the cold!"

She didn't understand earth trees.

"Robin," she'd asked him as she unwrapped the flat paper package and placed it in the box. "Are you sure this will work?"

"Of course, Star!" He'd laughed, pressing seemingly random buttons on the box. The inside lit up, and the package inside the box began to expand. Mere minutes later, she and Robin were eating the buttery popcorn as they started watching Beast Boy's latest rented horror movie.

"Robin, does the 'microwave' expand all things inside which one places things?" She asked eagerly, wondering what would happen if she placed a book or cracker inside the contraption.

"No, Starfire," Robin laughed again.

"Then what--"

"Shh! The movie's starting!" Beast Boy whispered, holding a finger to his lips.

She didn't understand popcorn. Or the 'microwave', for that matter.

"Robin," she'd asked as the Titans sat on the couch, relaxing as Cyborg channel-surfed. "Why do earth people insist on buying water in bottles when it is all around?" She motioned at the great body of water through the windows of Titan Tower.

"Because some people don't like tap water, Star," he'd answered.

Starfire almost asked what this 'tap water' was, but Cyborg had found a show worthy of watching, so she kept silent.

She didn't understand bottled water.

“Robin,” she’d asked him as Raven sighed, watching from across the room. “Do you wish to do the ‘hanging out’ with me?”

“Uh, yeah?” Robin said, unsure. He knew that Starfire often got the wrong idea about earth phrases.

“Where would you like to ‘hang’?” She inquired.

“Wanna go down the pizza place?” He suggested. Starfire looked confused.

“Is there a place for hanging inside the pizza place?” She asked. “I have been there many times, but I do not recall seeing any equipment required for the ‘hanging’—”

“Starfire, hanging out doesn’t actually involve hanging,” he told her, smiling gently.

“But if we are not ‘hanging’, then how will we be ‘hanging out’?” She frowned, puzzled.

“C’mon, I’m hungry,” Robin said, grabbing her hand and dragging her towards, in Starfire’s words, their ‘chosen establishment of feeding and nourishment’.

Starfire didn’t understand this phrase, ‘hanging out’. She didn’t understand the phrase ‘doing it’ either, come to think of it. What exactly would she have to be doing, and why did Robin blush and sputter when she suggested ‘doing it’? And what was ‘it’?

She didn’t understand earth phrases.

She stared into the distance as the sun started its daily descent under the horizon. She missed Tameran, her home. She missed her planet’s Tameranian phrases, Tameranian technology, Tameranian plants and animals and friends. Her eyes focused on the bright orange orb directly ahead of her, one of the few things that was the same on Tameran and here.

The sun.

“Hey,” she heard from behind her. She didn’t jump, she wasn’t surprised; she’d heard the door to the roof open and close, his footsteps, his breath as he came up behind her. “What’re you doing?”

“I am doing nothing, Robin,” she said in a near-monotone, her eyes never leaving the bright star.

“What are you looking at?”

“The sun.”

“Why?”

“Because it is pretty. And the sun reminds me of my home.”

“Hmm?” Robin murmured, not really meaning anything by it but acknowledging her answer all the same. “You shouldn’t stare at the sun, y’know.”

“Why should I not be staring at the sun, friend Robin?” She inquired, still staring at it.

“Because you’ll go blind,” he countered, walking around to face her, and to block her view.

She didn’t move, or attempt to make him move. She looked right at him, staring him right in the eyes. They stayed that way for a minute or two, engrossed in their little staring competition, before Robin blinked and the spell was broken.

“Let’s go back inside?” He suggested, motioning towards the door.

She didn’t move.

She was staring at the sun again.

Robin frowned. This wasn’t like her at all. Slowly he moved to stand behind her, and reached over her shoulders to cover her eyes with his hands. She stiffened for a moment, then relaxed.

And then, suddenly, his hands were wrapped around her waist and his chin was resting on her shoulder, and they were both staring at the sun.

And maybe, just maybe, she didn't need to understand all these foreign earth things, because really, they weren't that important.

A/N: Not quite as fluffy as I wanted it, but I guess it wasn’t TOO bad. But that’s not for me to judge, y’know? BTW, I’m a review whore, so… REVIEW, DAMMIT! Have a nice day! (insert sickeningly sweet grin here)

Lurrrrrve,
