#3: Dragon
Characters: Tatsuki
Words: 449
A/N: This isn’t yuri, it’s FRIENDSHIP. Got that? I’m an Ishime shipper, all the way. It’s a companion fic to #2, Princess. I almost had them as one drabble, but it got too long. So they’re separate now. w00t.
Tatsuki wasn’t sure what her friend had meant by that statement. Orihime then explained that it was because she was so strong and powerful, and she always protected her friends. Then the girl had delved into some wild imaginary scene of a scaly, fire-breathing Tatsuki protecting Princess Orihime, who was locked in a tower… and Tatsuki just listened and cocked an eyebrow at the rest of her classmates at their Hime-chan’s over-active imagination.
Then lunch was over, and they headed back into the school, and the moment passed.
Lying in bed later that night, Orihime’s words ran around in circle inside Tatsuki’s mind. She thought back to the day when she first spoke to the girl, and felt a pang of sadness as she remembered young Orihime’s pathetic face as she got teased by the older students. She had actually been watching for a few days, and finally got so fed up with the girl’s meekness that she just had to do something.
That something had been protecting Orihime, and even though she’d meant for it to be a one-time thing, she found herself strangely attracted to the girl, like a magnet. She was so nice and sweet and caring, so why was she getting picked on? She didn’t deserve it. And so, day after day, Tatsuki found herself talking to Orihime, inviting her to eat lunch with her and her friends, protecting her from bullies.
Before she knew it, without even trying, Orihime had become Tatsuki’s closest friend. They would spend hours together doing absolutely nothing, but they both enjoyed their time together. Orihime’s hair began to grow long again, and Tatsuki was always a bit envious of her friend’s gorgeous orange hair. Orihime gave Tatsuki a cheerful outlook on life, a reason to be happy every day, something to live for, and in return she protected her. It didn’t take long for people to realize that Orihime was off-limits to teasing (usually through experience, which meant getting their butts kicked by Tatsuki), but then they entered high school, and with her gigantic chest, she immediately became a target for perverted, horny high school boys. Ack. Boys took one look at Orihime’s chest and started hitting on her faster than the eye could see. Of course, poor innocent Orihime had no idea, and simply thought that they were just very nice, friendly people. So now she had a whole new hoard of people to protect Orihime from, and you wouldn’t even want to get her started on that Chizuru. But somehow, she didn’t mind.
Because in the end, she thought, that was the dragon’s job: to protect the princess.
