Heat to Melt the Snow…
Chapter 1...
The cold wind blew her hair in all directions making it a large raven tangled mess. She could care less what her hair was like. All she new was that it was going to be hell to comb out so she dug into her pockets and pulled out a blue hair tie and pulled it back into a low ponytail. She looked down the snow sprinkled mountain to the fork in the run leading to two different paths. Smiling she gripped her helmet tighter and dislodged her board from the snow and glided down to the sign reading black diamond.
When she reached her destination she coasted to a stop and took a seat on the snow. ‘More like in the snow!’ she thought dryly looking at her legs that had sank two inched into the fine powder. With her fingerless gloves she straightened out her cotton shirt. She wore a three layer top. First it was her long john underwear top then the long sleeve white shirt followed by a normal red shirt with ‘What are you looking at?’ printed in bold letters across her chest.
She picked up the silver helmet that lay in the snow next to her, brushed off the show that clung to it and placed it securely on her head. Just as her hands went down to reach for a good amount of snow someone joined her. He was panting slightly. His warm breath creating fog as it reached the cold air.
“Hi Miroku.”
“Hey, how come you didn’t wait up?”
“I did, your too slow! I stopped for a good two minutes up there before I came here to wait for you.” She stated while pointing to the spot she once stood to find her next choice in direction.
“Well slow down then. You know I can’t snowboard like you Kag. I don’t like strapping myself to a plywood board and throw myself down a mountain uncontrollably.”
“Oh and it is any better to strap yourself to a thin split twig and ride on that down a mountain side!”
“Kag. I told you once before I’m a skier.”
“Then why are you on a snowboard?” she asked while pointing to the shinning new board.
“Only for my favorite lil’ cuz.” he replied, then turned his head to the side and mumbled something about his skies being left at the airport.
“Well Mir. I didn’t come here just to enjoy the scenery. I want to shred some snow!”
Once she pulled down her goggles she stood then jumped down into the black diamond trail.
“Kag! You know I can’t snowboard that well!” Miroku yelled after her.
Kagome turned so her back was facing down the mountain
“Then heel it all the way!” Kagome replied to him then turned to face down again.
The wind rushed pashed her as she cut and S into the newly laid snow. Ahead of her was a newly place ramp. She decided to test it. Gaining speed she when up and took of into the air. She grabbed her heel edge before she let it go to land and continued on to her desired ramp.
She had been waiting to overcome her fear of this ramp since last year when a terrible accident caused her to fear this particular ramp.
While on the way there she fumbled with her backpack. Finally she found what she was looking for. Pushing play on her MP3 player and adjusting her earpiece she speed up. After a few silent seconds the music started to kick in.
Sometimes I get so weird
I even freak my self out
I laugh myself to sleep, it’s my lullaby
Sometimes I drive so fast
Just to feel the danger
I want to scream it makes me feel alive
It was her favorite song. It told who she was and how she felt. Funny how it also fit the situation.
Is it enough to love
Is it enough to breath
Somebody rip my heart out
And leave me here to bleed
Know she started to sing along to the song. The ramp nearing ever so close. She could just taste victory!
Is it enough to die
Somebody save my live
I’d rather be anything but ordinary please
Not far now. Just a few more feet and she would take flight.
To walk within the lines
Would make my life so boring
I want to know that I have been
To the extreme
So knock me off my feet…
Just as the last line was sung something, or rather someone crashed into her making her lose her balance. Both her and the person that threw her off course tumbled the rest of the way down to the ramp. The never reached the ramp though because of such force tackling her at a high speed they deterred off course and now they were sliding very fast down the mountain.
Kagome immediately untangled herself from the object of her newfound hate and dug the heel edge of her board into the hard snow. Now that she stopped she noticed the person who tackled her had not. She could see him clawing at the snow trying to slow himself down. The only thing that was doing was giving him more ice up his jacket and numb fingers.
When his hand came within reach she lashed out and grabbed the boys wrist.
“Plant the edge of your board into the snow!” she yelled as she tried to hold him.
He immediately did so and she let go.
“Thanks Kag!”
Kagome blinked once. Then twice. Finally she knew who it was and exploded.
“Miroku why did you do that I almost had it!” she yelled while taking off her helmet and goggles.
“Sorry Kag. I lost control.”
She growled at him as she shoved her helmet into the snow. She needed to check her board to see if it was okay.
She looked down to find the bindings loose and cracked down the middle. That pissed her off. Not only did she not get to destroy her fear but she also lost a good board.
“Miroku you are so buying me a new snowboard!”
“Huh? Why?”
“It’s cracked that’s why. Now I only have this run and that is it. I can never ride this board again!”
“I said I was sorry.”
She sighed and slid down to sit next to him. She grabbed his board and looked at it. Nothing was wrong with it. It only needed to be fixed at the tip where his board met hers and the bindings tightened.
She let go of his board and looked at the ramp behind her longingly. Just then someone shot off the ramp, A snowboarder. And he was using her tricks. The ones she came up with and did at the nationals. Such a bad rip!
“The jerk!”
“What Kag?”
“That jerk used my moves from nationals!”
“Oh”
“Is that bad?”
“Yes of course that is bad! You never copy someone else’s trick unless you were taught by them or are on you private mountain. You never do so in a public boarding area!”
“Oh”
“You don’t understand do you?”
“Not one word.”
She noticed that he was looking at her. He winked and boarded over.
“Hey what are you doing here? You don’t look like a pro boarder to me.” he said. Then he got a look at her board.
“Ha. That’s what you get for boarding at the wrong level.”
“I’ll say. Wrong level! I would be on the back bowl if it wasn’t for this idiot.”
“Did you not understand you are not even suppose to be here. Pro’s only. Leave and don’t come back. You must have taken the wrong turn. You do know that the blue is on the other side of the fork.”
“Told you we should have gone there.” Said Miroku
“Oh no, you can stay. Your board was not even damaged. I bet this wench bumped into you when she lost control.”
“WHAT!” Kagome screamed.
“Like I said, leave!”
With those final words he took off down the mountain. Then she noticed another boarder come up to their group once he took off. And the boarder was female.
“INUYASHA!” she cried out.
She stopped right next to them. She plopped herself down in the snow and took off her helmet.
“I’m sorry if he gave you any trouble. He still has a hard time believing that I got up to pro just as fast as he did. By the way I’m Sango and that rude bastard you just met was Inuyasha. Ouch what happened to your board!” Sango said as she noticed the state of Kagome’s board.
“This idiot right here lost control and ran into me making me loose control and deter from the ramp that you just came off of. Isn’t that right Miroku.” she said only at the end did she hiss out his name.
“Ouch major headache. Your going to need a new board. Well hope to see you on the mountain sometime again.” she said as she stood and placed her helmet back on her head.
“Yeah same with you.”
“Bye and good luck getting down it gets icy at the bottom. I did the run just a little while ago and I nearly slipped.”
“Thanks I think I’ll just call a cat over. Thanks for telling me. Besides I wouldn’t want to loose my cousin off the edge of this mountain.”
“Oh so he is your cousin. That explains why your not yelling at him and threatening him with a lawsuit.”
“Oh no he has to buy me a new board and dinner tonight.”
“That’s cool. Hey where are you going to eat maybe I could somehow casually be there?”
“Oh no where special. Just to the hotels restaurant that is on the third floor.”
“That is the finest restaurant here! Well hope to see you there then!”
“Bye!” Kagome yelled down to Sango’s fading figure.
It turns out that Miroku had been staring at Sango’s ass the whole time he managed not to hear any of the conversation only the part where she would be joining them for dinner which he was paying for. Oh well such is the price for wrecking Kag’s board.
Alright that was the first chapter. I hope you liked it. Please send reviews.
