The Girl with the Broken Smile

Uh, yes. This is angsty and sad and depressing. Uh, I don't know what more to say except:

This is a one shot. A ZeLink fluff one shot.

… I hope you're all happy now.

And yes, there is a character death. If you don't like that, too bad.

Also, there might be VERY disturbing images for younger readers. If you are reading beyond this point and are grossed out, I will NOT be held responsible. You ignored my warning. It is your OWN fault, not mine, if you read this warning and still read.

If you, the reader, don't like gore, or anything that may be considered sensitive to younger viewers or to yourself, STOP RIGHT HERE.

Feedback is encouraged and welcome.

Zelda, a beautiful young queen of eighteen years, was up in her room. Brushing her long, blonde hair, she clipped some of it back, away from her face.

She often had trouble with herself, either she was too tired looking, or too intimidating, or too timid looking to be the queen of the country. But she was, and she often kept the thoughts about him to herself. That is why she looked the way she did, either tired, or intimidating, or timid.

He was always there for her, whether she needed his help to save the kingdom or help to rebuild, he was always there.

Except now.

She remembered one night so long ago it seemed. She hated to remember it, how gruesome it seemed.

He appeared one night at her door, soaking wet from the rain.

She noticed one small thing about him: he was bleeding. Not from his arm or his leg or something. His abdomen. And right now, Zelda saw why his arm was covering it.

His innards were practically spilling out.

"He has returned."

Zelda gasped.

'This isn't possible. The seven sages sealed him away in the Sacred Realm. He can't…'

"I know what you're thinking," he said, half smiling.

"How could he?"

Link shrugged.

"I don't know, and I don't think I could find out."

And that was when he collapsed.

She knew that, deep down, the world was not all rainbows and butterflies, and that people were twisted and crooked.

She knew that from losing him.

After she had picked out a rather simple gown that was black.

"Perfect for the occasion," she said, slipping it on, still thinking about him.

'I don't think I'll ever be able to accept this,' she thought, being carted away to a funeral. The dirge could already be heard half way there.

'Please, don't try so hard to say good bye, Zelda…' she thought again.

"It's not the end."

And she knew from that moment on that he would never come back.

She knew that Link was dead, and there was nothing she could do.
