Drabbot 1: Before the Fight

Rewritten July 2008:

AN: I can only do so much with these old drabbots but I feel that the rewrites I am made are so much better than the old. I hope those that are rereading and the new readers will enjoy them.

Disclaimer: I don't own FMA but I do own the term Drabbots. I made it up.

Before the Fight

The quietness of the night almost seemed inappropriate for the chaos that would be occurring in two days. Their plan was risky and Riza didn't entirely like Roy's idea. However, she would go along with it because she trusted him and knew that no matter what, she would protect him even at the cost of her own life.

They sat there in his living room, both trying to take their minds off the planned rebellion, yet it lingered above them like a dark cloud. It filled the room with a tense air that they couldn't dissipate. Roy would switch places with Havoc at the hospital and he would take Roy's position at the Northern Defense area. Furey would go in her place so she could remain with Roy.

Neither of them was able to sleep because of their thoughts littered with what ifs. What if he died? What if she died? What if they both failed at their mission? What if the others were discovered up north before the coup ever happened? Since they couldn't sleep, they sat there in companionable silence. Riza sat across from Roy, a book sitting on her lap and her gaze drifting along the lines of description and dialogue that made up the work of literature.

Roy sat staring at her. He studied her beautiful face lit by the warm glow of the fire. He didn't know when it happened, but he knew that he loved her. He loved that strong brave woman that sat across from him. She was one of those women that any man would be lucky to have. Why she chose to dedicate her life to his cause was beyond him, but he was extremely grateful she did. He wanted to tell her that he loved her but there had never been a right time to do so.

He smirked as he remembered Maes nagging him to get a wife. When Roy confessed to being in love with Riza, Maes teased him mercilessly. Roy told him that Riza probably didn't feel the same way. Maes retorted by saying it was obvious that Riza reciprocated his feelings. He'd waited too long to confess to her and now it was too late... wasn't it? Could he tell her now? While they were both under such stress? He didn't know if one of them or both would survive his plan. He wanted her to know now, just in case...

Riza was feeling quite odd. She could feel Roy's dark gaze studying her for quite a while now. She'd pretended not to notice at first but the more he stared the more difficult it was to do so. She shifted and tried to put all her focus into the book she was holding. She sighed inwardly when that didn't work. When she finally decided to say something, Roy beat her to it.

"Riza?" he said in a questioning manner. She closed her book and looked toward him.

"Yes sir?"

"Would you come here?" he asked, patting the couch next to him. She tilted her head to the side slightly and studied his face for a moment. It betrayed nothing about his potential actions so she decided to do as he requested.

She placed her book on the table beside her, stood, and walked over to sit down beside him on the soft couch. She was shocked when he lifted his hand and ran the back of it down the side of her face slowly and ever so softly. Chills ran up her back as she saw that sexy smirk appear on his lips.

"Sir?" she questioned, quite confused about his actions.

"If . . . If I don't make it, I want you to get as far away from central as possible. I have family in the city of Kartan in Xing that will take you in and keep you safe."

"Don't speak like that sir. Besides, I don't intend on letting you die. As long as I am breathing, I am going to be there to protect you. I made a vow and I intend to keep it until I breathe my last breath.

"You should just worry about yourself Riza. My life means nothing in the bigger scheme of things. Just forget about me."

"I can't do that," she replied.

"Riza, please tell me that you will escape if something happens to me," he said. "Don't risk your life for me."

"No," she said flatly and then stood. "My . . . my life would have no meaning whatsoever if you weren't in it . . . I lo . . . I should get some sleep." She cursed inwardly because she almost revealed her deepest feelings for him. Now was not the time to reveal the fact that she loved him.

She started to walk away but his hand around her wrist stopped her. He pulled her down to the couch roughly. She was shocked at his actions as she felt herself being pushed back on the couch and both of her wrists held there. Her eyes widened at the tough actions he was using against her.

"I am your commanding officer," he snapped. "You are supposed to follow my orders."

"Well when you are fuehrer then you can fire me for insubordination," she growled. "Until then you can't do shit. You wouldn't even take the time to do the blasted paperwork!"

This caused a grin to pass across his lips and a small chuckle to leave his throat. "Damn you are stubborn. I wonder if that is one of the reasons I'm in love with you."

Riza froze upon hearing his words. He was in love with her? There was no way! How could he love a plain woman like her when he had all those beautiful model potential girlfriends?

Before she could question if she heard him right, he leaned down and kissed her. She shuttered at the intensity of the kiss and found herself kissing back as his body pressed against hers, causing her to moan lightly.

When he pulled away, she returned his feelings with those three words that transcended time. He let go of her wrists and stood up from the couch. When she moved to sit up, he bent down and picked her up bridal style, knowing exactly what he was planning.

"Isn't this against the rules?" she asked with a smile.

"Let's consider this part of our rebellion," he said, kissing her and carrying her to his bedroom.
