I wrote this for my own personal fanfiction collection but I decided to post it. It’s pretty short but sweet. There is no kissing or anything, just metaphors and all that fun stuff. Included is my OC from White Roses Never Fade.
Disclaimer: I don’t own Yu Yu Hakusho but I can dream.
-.-.-.-.-.-
A young woman, around seventeen years of age, sat with her back against a tall wooden beam on the edge of a temple’s wrap around porch. She allowed her leg to swing leisurely at her side, over the ledge, while the second remain lying before her. In her hands she played with a rose, her eyes cast upward past the overhanging shingles and to the vast heavens.
A small smiled graced her pleasant features, and her light blue eyes reflected the stars. She placed the red flower down into the folds of her pearl nightgown. The material seemed to capture celestial light under the glowing orb above, giving her the appearance of an otherworldly being. Her waist length sugar-brown hair shimmered as she tucked a silky piece behind one of her ears. Her skin was pale, bathed in the moonlight. Her voice was sweet, heard as she spoke a name, “Kurama…”
The tall man who stood to her right brought his emerald eyes of an un-comprehendible depth from the sky to her face. His long crimson hair swayed in the warm summer night’s air, while shorter angled tresses clung to the nape of his neck. A tone body and strong arms could be seen when the breeze blew past, forcing his loose cotton blouse to cling tightly to his torso. “Yes?” His voice too was alluring, yet he would only speak with such softness to two women in his life – his mother and of course her, though both were knotted in separate places within his heart.
“I was wondering,” she began, shyly with a certain innocence, “What do you think about shooting stars?”
Kurama took a seat close to her, “Katelyn…” he wasn’t sure what she expected him to say, did she want a specific response, or was she merely curious? “Why do you ask?”
The female he asked this question to glanced over at him, “I-” She quickly found interest back in the rose he’d given her, “I would like to know. Do you believe that if you make a wish on one, that wish will come true?”
He reached out and hooked a finger under her chin gently requesting she look at him. After a second she did and he said, “Is that what you believe?”
Katelyn was silent for a moment, then opened her mouth, “No, I do not.”
This answer surprised him despite the fact it didn’t show. This was his angel, the girl who showed him anything was possible, who laughed in the rain, who made him see the beauty in the smallest things, and yet she did not believe a legend that suited her so well? “And why not?”
She reached up and covered his hand with her own, “Because I think it’s a terrible thing,” her eyes searched his expressionless face, hoping for something that would tell her she wasn’t insane, “Don’t you agree? Is it not wrong to wish upon the death of another for selfish desires?”
Hearing this suddenly made their situation much more understandable and he smiled down at her, “How like you,” he whispered, “you realize you think too much, right?”
“Perhaps,” she giggled at his reaction, “But I can’t help it.”
Kurama took this time to lean in a bit closer, “Then do you think it’s wrong to make a wish on a dandelion?”
Katelyn blushed feeling the heat of his body so near to her own and also from seeing the look in his eyes, “No, I think that’s a wonderful thing.”
“But you are wishing for selfish desires through death, no?” The crimson haired male continued to smile since he had a feeling what her defense would be like.
“When you blow the puff on the dandelion,” her eyelashes fluttered closed, “You are spreading seeds, and those seeds born from the death of the parent plant through your help become life.” His angel lifted the rose from her lap and took in its sweet sent, “They call it a weed, but I don’t see why.” Her blue gaze was reopened and back on him, “Even though dandelions aren’t roses doesn’t mean they are not beautiful.”
Kurama took the flower and placed it behind her ear, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”
“So I’ve heard,” she continued to look up at him, “Kurama, when you look at me, what do you see?”
His eyes softened as he proceeded to keep his gaze locked with hers, “What I see,” he whispered, “Is a white rose amongst red, purity with an indescribable brilliance. I see the girl I want to spend eternity with, the one I want to protect. And you? What do you see?”
Katelyn pulled away from him and slid off the edge of the porch. Landing on her feet she then bent down and picked up something out of his view. When she re-emerged he saw she held an old dandelion in her grasp. “I see a fox,” she began, “and a demon with a human heart. I see an indescribable kindness and I see the one who saved me. My salvation.” She lifted the flower, took a deep breath, and blew. The small white capped seeds scattered quickly and floated away into the night.
Kurama watched her as she went to look back up at the sky. They were silent for a minute, then he asked, “What did you wish for?”
Katelyn turned her head to him, raising a finger to her lips, “It’s a secret.” The two stared at each other for a while. Eventually the crimson haired male chuckled and his angel let out a small giggle. He knew she wouldn’t tell him, after all if you tell someone your wish it will never come true…

Well, what did you think? It was short and sweet, right? I guess it’s kind of like a side story to WRNF posted a year after the actual story. Thanks for reading, please review.
