"...Cin? You still awake?" he whispered in a hoarse tone. His voice had worn out from chatting back and forth.
She nodded as she answered, "Yeah, still conscious." She watched his lips form into a small smile as he placed his hands behind his head and stared with his ocean-blue eyes up into the diamond sky.
"Just checking. You were quiet for a few moments...Thought you might have fallen asleep." He turned his head to face Cindy.
"Oh, no, I was just thinking," she added as she picked a flower that sat at the edge of the blanket.
He smirked. "Well don't hurt yourself!"
"Oh, shut up Neutron..." The blonde sat up on both elbows and tossed the flower at him. He picked the flower off of his T-shirt and set it gently on the ground.
She laughed a little as she rolled onto her stomach so she was facing him. Cindy crossed her arms under her chin and placed her head on her arms. "Have you thought of where you're going to college yet? Or are you not going since you've already been through it since you're so smart?"
"I'm going to the University of the Undecided...I'm not so sure I want to put myself through that again," he rolled his eyes as he remembered his 11-year-old college experience. "But I want to go to a college and at least get a Master's in some science course. How about you Cin? Have you thought about it?"
"My mother wants me to go to Yale, Princeton, or Harvard. I hate it when she wants me to be an overachiever. I personally want to go to a smaller college, or one that's closer to home." One that's closer to you...
The two friends stayed awake for a couple more hours, talking of their plans for college, what they were going to do for the rest of the summer until their freshman year of college started, and if they were to continue these summer weekend camp-outs. Cindy wanted to badly, as they were the only real time she could spend with her secret love.
"Hey Jimmy," she asked with her head next to his shoulder, "I really like these outdoor camping sort of things that we have. It seems like we've become so much...closer." She yawned as she was beginning to grow tired.
"Getting tired?" He also yawned, catching it from Cindy.
"And you?" she mocked. They both laughed as Cindy looked up into the sky. A star was shooting across the midnight sky. Her emerald eyes watched it soar across the nighttime heavens. "Neutron, make a wish!" She pointed her index finger at the meteor, just in case he didn't see it.
"Hmm, what should I wish for?" he asked Cindy rhetorically. He smiled as his thoughts came to a decision. The teen genius closed his eyes and made a wish. "Now it's your turn."
"Lets see..." She closed her eyes as she imagined herself and Jimmy together, kissing each other every time they'd lock eyes, getting married, moving into their first house, having fun painting a room with baby furniture light pink, walking out of the hospital with a gift from heaven in her arms, opening Christmas presents together, having a romantic dinner, and even growing old together. 'I wish all of that would happen. Even if it doesn't, at least give me a part of Jimmy I can hold forever in my heart and memory.'
Cindy slowly opened her eyes back up to find Jimmy staring at her with love in his eyes, and his goofy grin upon his face. "What?"
"Nothing, nothing...Just thought I'd take in the beautiful view." A lump formed in Cindy's throat after she realized what he had just said. Jimmy took a few strands of her hair and placed them behind her ear.
"You think I'm...beautiful?" The young blonde's thoughts began to race. Cindy looked straight into his eyes. She just had to know if he was telling the truth.
"Well, you're not ugly, are you? Of course you're beautiful," he whispered. She rolled over so she could place her head onto his semi-muscular chest. Thump, thump, thump, went his heart in her ear. Its peaceful beating had started to relax her, and her eyes began to close. Cindy yawned once again and within minutes, she broke her promise of staying awake. Her deep, soft breathing signaled to Jimmy that she was, in fact, asleep.
He took his fingers and ran them through her soft, silky blonde hair as she lay there deep into dreamland. Cindy mumbled a few words in her sleep: "I love you, Jimmy..."
The blue-eyed genius smiled and whispered to her, "I love you too, Cindy." He also began to close his eyes and fell into subconsciousness. The only things that were awake now were the summer stars above them, and the dreams of each other inside their heads.
