Yukito lived to see that smile.

The fact that the smile was so rare only made it all the more beautiful when he did smile.

And Yuki wondered, sometimes, what it was like before he knew Touya. Before he moved to that little town, and bumped into Sakura that day, whizzing too fast on her pink roller-blades. It had been worth it, though, even for that one moment, seeing his face among the falling blossoms. Some had landed in his hair, bright pink against dark brown. He had smiled then, though Yukito was never quite sure why.

He asked once, hesitantly, what Touya had been like. Had he been so different, or similar, or exactly the same? Once Sakura had calmed down enough to answer him, her blush still colouring her cheeks, she told him her big brother had been both similar and different, but definitely not the same. A lot quieter, she had said. But then, he had never been noisy. So that was similar, she supposed. One thing she had noticed was that he smiled more. Somehow he seemed a lot happier now than she could remember, even if he was still a very serious person. Just as intense, though – no, more so. She wondered out loud if that had to do with him... seeing things.

After that, Yukito had made it his personal, unspoken job to try and make Touya smile. He could just picture it in his mind – Touya as a smaller boy, and then a teen, so withdrawn and aloof from everything. And never smiling, which was sad. Not just because anyone who didn't smile must have been so sad themselves, but also because Touya's smile was special. All smiles were, but Touya's especially. It never occurred to Yukito until much later to ask himself why.

By that time, spring had come and gone and come again, and the petals were everywhere like a pink carpet. They scattered when Touya rode his bike through them, with Yukito on the back, one arm around Touya's waist.

When they reached the school, Touya didn't get off the bike immediately. He waited for a moment, not saying anything. Yukito was opening his mouth to ask a question when Touya put his hand on top of Yuki's. It rested there only for a second, even less than that, but it was all Yukito needed to make his day the best in a long time, even if yesterday he had thought the same thing when Touya had eaten his lunch with him under the oak tree like he always did.

But it was that morning that Yukito realised, or at least hoped, that his own smiles were as important to Touya as Touya's were to him.

About time I got back to some CCS fics! Its pretty short but I like it anyway. Please review! (Hopefully I've improved some since my older Touya x Yuki fics).
