Missing 2/2 - Sara

Sara woke up to a pounding head ache. She opened her eyes slowly and realized that she was lying on the back seat of a car. The car was going in a high speed.

Sara sat up quickly, too quickly as she realized, as her vision blurred and her sight got black again. She wanted to support herself with her arms, but could not move them, as they were held behind her back.

She leaned back on the seat and closed her eyes again. She was lying on the back seat of a car and her arms were bound. What had happened? She pondered, but the only thing that became clearer was the pain in her head.

She sat up again, slower this time and leaned against the side of the car. She looked at the person that was sitting on the driver's seat and when she recognized the man she yelled, "Are you mad?"

She had opened the door of her apartment and her expression had become hard, when she saw who was standing in front of her. "Hank," she had said simply, but sharply.

"Do you mind if I come in?"

"Yeah, I do," she had answered coldly.

Nevertheless Hank had entered her apartment. She had stepped out of his way.

He seemed agitated. "We have to talk, Sara."

"There's nothing to talk. Not after such a long time," she had replied. "When I think about it, there has never been anything to talk about," she had added.

"Sara, I realized a long time ago that I made a terrible mistake."

Sara had lifted her eye-brows. "So, after Elaine dumped you maybe?"

Hank had looked angry. "Why don't you understand me?"

"There's nothing to understand." Sara had had enough. "And now get out of my apartment," she demanded. "please," she added with all politeness she could bring up.

Hank had grabbed her wrist. "Sara, please listen to me-,"

Sara had freed her arm and raised her voice, "Get out of here now."

Hank had grabbed her around her shoulders and Sara had struggled to get free. "Let me go," she had yelled. Hank had stopped for a second as if he was thinking and then he had swung his arm and had hit her hard in the face.

She had fallen, taking the clothes hanger down with her and had hit the floor with the back of her head and went into unconsciousness.

"I'm not mad, Sara," Hank replied, "You have to be, letting go a guy like me."

Sara could not believe it. "I won't get even started to discuss this with you," she said. "Stop this car and let me go."

Hank shook his head. He even increased the speed. Sara looked out of the window and could only see desert in every direction.

"Stop this car," she repeated.

"I won't Sara," Hank replied. "And where would you want to go? It's at least ten miles in every direction before you come to the city again."

Sara groaned quietly. Hank. She had thought a lot of bad things about him after they had been over, but she had never pictured him as a violent guy. He must have gone nuts completely.

She did not feel like walking ten miles. She rather felt like vomiting all over the car. She leaned back, remembering something that gave a very good cause for vomiting.

She remembered how the spot that showed the positive result had appeared on the test stripe. She had done the test in the morning after Greg had left, as it had been almost two weeks then, since her period had not come.

She had been so happy. She had looked forward to tell it Greg and had pondered how to tell him in a special way.
In the early afternoon she had went into a small shop for children clothes and had bought a nice little romper suit.
She had wanted to show it to Greg and wait for his reaction.
Sara closed her eyes that had become wet. Would he ever know?

She wondered if she should tell Hank that she was pregnant. Maybe he would treat her gentler then, maybe he would let her go.
Or he would freak that she was pregnant from another man and would hit her again.
She shuddered. No, she could not tell him.

"Where are we going?" she asked quietly.

Hank did not answer, but increased the speed even more.

"Do you want to kill us?" Sara wanted to know, sounding calmer than she actually felt.

"Should've gagged you. You never know when to hold your mouth shut," Hank replied, sounding angrier again.

Sara had to laugh despite herself, as this sounded to her more like a description of Greg.

"What's so funny?" Hank yelled and suddenly slammed on the brakes. The car came to abrupt halt. Sara crashed into the front seats and fell into the gap between the back seat and the front seats.

That was too much. She had been able to hold down the vomiting the last minutes, but now she threw up and could not avoid to poke on herself. She groaned, laid back and let the tears dry that had come up during the vomiting.

Then she heard that one of the doors of the car was slammed shut. Hank had got off.

Greg was still sitting in the break room of the lab, waiting for any good news about their search for Sara. Hodges and Bobby were with him. Both had refused to go home, although their shift was over. Mia was still working and Jacquie must have been comparing prints for hours now, Greg thought.

He appreciated that the two lab tech had stayed. He was not on friendly terms with Hodges, but the both men kept him at least most of the time away from too dark thoughts with small talk, though none of them was really into it now.

Grissom, Catherine, Nick and Warrick entered the room, obviously to take a highly necessary break of some minutes, even if only to infuse some coffee.

Somebody had apparently informed Ecklie of the situation, as he entered the room shortly after the graveyard shift CSIs. He turned to them with a gravely expression, "I want you to know, that whatever some of you may think about me, I hope wholeheartedly that we find Sara alive as soon as possible."

Grissom nodded. "Never thought something else."

Greg though shuddered, when he heard Ecklie's words. His hope to find Sara "alive" made him even more aware, that even if they found her, she might not be alive anymore.

At this moment Brass came into the room. "We have a lead, a hot scent actually," he announced.

Sara tried to sit up again. Slowly she lifted herself into a sitting position. She looked down at herself. Her trousers were polluted with vomit that exuded a nasty smell. She sighed. This was not to change now.

She had to get out of here. She had to get away from Hank, even if she had to crawl ten miles to the city.

Her wish to get out of the car was fulfilled very quickly, though not in a way that Sara had wanted. Hank opened the door next to her and dragged her out of the car.

"Now we're going to talk," he said and let Sara drop into the dust of the desert.

Sara tried to stand up, but Hank pushed her down again. "Stay here."

Sara backed away from him. Hank got to his knees. "I know that you still love me, Sara."

Sara shook her head. She looked around wildly, desperately searching for someone, something that could help her.

"Do you listen to me, Sara?"

Sara was glad that it was only in the morning. Being outside in the desert in the sun during midday would have made her feel even sicker than she already did.

"Sara, you still love me, don't you?" Hank whined.

Sara starred into the distance. She thought she could see a car coming there.

"I've never loved you, Hank," Sara replied coldly, loosing the last rest of patience.

This was a mistake. Hank grabbed her roughly and forced her with her back to the floor. "You do."

Sara struggled desperately and then he backed away from her to her great relief. He looked disgusted at the vomit on her.

The car was approaching them fast and now Sara could see that it was not only one car, but that it were two. She recognized the SUV's of the lab. She felt utterly relieved. How had they found her, though? It did not really matter.

She tried to get up again, managing it after some seconds, while Hank, who had not noticed the cars, remained sitting on the floor resignedly.

She walked slowly into the direction of the nearing cars, as fast as she felt up to in her condition. The sounds of the cars could be heard clearly now and Hank got up, too. When he saw the cars he turned white. He seemed to consider for a moment to go after Sara, but ran back to his car instead.

Sara did not pay attention to him anymore, but continued to walk towards the cars. She stopped dead when she recognized Catherine and Greg in the first on. She could have cried for joy to see Greg.

The SUV came to a halt next to her and Greg jumped out of the car. The other SUV drove on over to Hank, who had still not managed to start his car.

Greg took two big steps towards Sara and embraced her joyfully. He held her tightly, so that Sara wondered if he would let her go sometime during the next hours.

"You'll get dirty," she said quietly, remembering the condition of her clothes.

"Doesn't matter, doesn't matter," Greg muttered into her hair. His hands went down her arms until they came to the tape that still bound them.

Greg let go of Sara and hurried back to the car, only to return with a pair of scissors after some seconds. He cut the tape and Sara stretched her arms.

She lifted her right hand to the pounding spot on the back of her head and found dried blood there, but the wound did not feel too bad to her.

"How are you feeling?" Greg asked, a little worry coming back that had been covered by pure joy so far.

Sara smiled. "I'm fine, Greg, now I'm fine, really. How did you find me?"

"I'll tell you later," Greg replied and Sara walked to the car and looked at the passenger's seat. The romper suit that she had bought was lying there. She picked it up and turned to Greg. "You found that?" she asked softly.

"Catherine did," Greg answered and indicated the other woman who had watched the couple the past minutes.

Sara frowned. "Does she…"

Greg nodded compunctious. "They all know. I had to tell them."

Sara gave Greg a hug that dissipated his worries. "It's okay, Greg." She let go of him and held up the romper suit in front of her. "I wouldn't have been able to hide this for very long anyway."

She looked at her belly and Greg laid his hand on it. "There's nothing to feel, yet, Greg." He looked at her and smiled. "I can wait."
