Chapter One: Awakening
Lightning and thunder clashed together in the sky, creating a song of anger and despair. Rain dripped steadily from the clouds, like tears of the gods, dripping onto the straight towers of the castle. Dripping down wound ivy, getting into iron and stone cracks in the architecture, the rain continued on its course until it hit the ground far below. The water in the ground seeped into a small metal grating at the bottom of the castle, running its course down the wall there and hitting solid rock at the bottom.
Strung up along the room were carcasses of animals, held up with metal hooks and chains. A grotesque table, covered in blood, held a slab of meat and a butcher's knife, ready to cut into the dead animal piece. Grumbling, a large bulk of a man walked into the room. Wearing only a sewn-together burlap sack and brown pants made out of various materials, the deformed man grabbed the butcher's knife and cut a piece out of the slab of meat, throwing it into a dish filled with oil. The man turned and looked into the dish, grinning stupidly at his own reflection. His teeth, large and jutting out were terribly deformed. His one eye was bigger than the other, making the man seem like a monster. He could understand why they called him this…but did not understand how he could change himself. A trapped five year old mind in a man's body with no escape…
He walked over to one of the various locked cages on the one side of the room. Kneeling down, the man laid eyes on his prize – a young woman wearing only a white sheet. Her skin was pale, shining in the light of the room. Her blonde hair, pulled back in a ponytail, hung limply at her throat as she lay on her side. The man's large hand went through the bars, hoping to touch her. The young woman curled up a bit more, beginning to stir. The man tried once more to touch the beautiful skin, when a clap of thunder and a flash of lightning struck. The man yelled in fright, standing up and quickly leaving the lair in a hurry to get away from the loud noise of the thunder.
The young woman turned restlessly.
"Dad, turn off the road! TURN OFF THE ROAD!" Fiona screamed. Her father turned the wheel, but to no avail. Careening out of control, the car slid forward. Her mother screamed, louder than ever before, and her father threw up his hands to his face as the car collided with something.
Sitting up in fright, the young woman known as Fiona gasped as the dream shook her awake. The sheet fell off of her body, and she quickly grabbed it, putting it around her once more. She looked around. "Where…where am I!" she yelled. She crawled a little ways to the end of the bars, looking out at a room only fitting for her nightmares. She turned towards the door of her cage, and gasped in wonder. The lock on the door was unlocked.
Fiona got out of her cage and looked around, protectively clutching the sheet to her body. She rounded the bloody table, watching as a long line of blood dripped off of the table. She heard a whimper and slowly peered under the table. A pair of glowing eyes met her, then a growl. She gasped as a large shape jumped past her. She fell to the ground as the white dog rushed past her. She looked down to the ground beside her; a collar lay there, which she picked up. She examined the name on the collar closely. "Hewie?" she asked, and looked back to the door.
Standing, Fiona walked to the exit and walked up the long flight of stairs into the unknown…
