Chapter 7: On the plane

Two days later

Seattle airport, 5 am

“Thanks man, for helping us with the passports and stuff.” Alec said to Logan shaking his hand.

“Yeah, smart aleck here is right. And thank you for making possible that Cindy can come along.” Max added, but didn’t touch Logan. Of course not.

“O.C. is in your debt forever Log-Boy!” was all Cindy said and she hugged Logan tightly. “Hawaii, I hope ya got some hot sugas for Cin!” and with that she flashed her passport to the security men on her way to the plane.

They searched through her handbag and patted her up and down, then did the same to Alec and Max. They had to walk through metal detectors but then finally, one hour later, they sat in their plane to Hawaii.

“Welcome to Hawaiian airlines. Thank you for choosing our services. We hope you’ll enjoy the flight with us. Please put your seat belts on, we are going to start in 2 minutes.” A polite female voice announced over the speakers.

Max, O.C. and Alec sat in one row, Max on the window.

When the plane started she could see the Space Needle becoming smaller and smaller and felt a tinge of uneasiness having to leave this city. She had lived there for years, settled down and had made friends. Like Original Cindy. And she had to leave her bike behind! But she would come back sooner or later. And if only to get her baby.

“You okay boo?” O.C. asked carefully.

“Yeah, it’s just weird leaving Seattle.” Max said honestly.

“I know. It’s the first time you fly?”

“Hell no. I learned to fly a helicopter when I was 8. No, it’s not the first time. You?” Max explained, thinking back to her Manticore days.

“Yeah, it is. But it’s okay. I have my two genetically enhanced super soldiers with me. Even if the pilot dies of a heart attack, you’ll bring us down safely.” O.C. replied grinning at the blonde stewardess that just passed them by in her short skirt.

Suddenly Max thought something was wrong. What was it?

“Alec, you alright?” she asked concerned.

He was sitting on his seat, grabbing the sides of it with both hands, his eyes closed and his mouth shut too. He was sucking the air in in short gasps.

His mouth had been closed for almost 15 minutes now! Alec’s mouth! And he hadn’t even tried to hit on the stewardess! Alec! Not hitting on a blonde in a short skirt?

“Alec, are you having a heart attack?”

“I hate flying!” he pushed out between gritted teeth and Max had to hold back a smile. (I swear to all those people who know the plot of the Supernatural episode ‘Phantom Traveler’ that I hadn’t see it when I wrote this!)

Alec was scared of flying. She thought she wouldn’t live to see him like this ever, but when you expected it the less, there it was.

“Oh, sorry ‘bout my comment, boo!” O.C. excused. “But ya heard Max. She can fly this thing. We’ll arrive safely, don’t worry pretty boy. The frowning you do is gonna cause ya pretty face some wrinkles if you don’t stop it soon!”

Alec opened his eyes slowly when he felt O.C.’s hand rest on his arm soothingly and he said “Promise?” in this cute little.-boy-voice Max would have never thought she’s hear from Alec.

“Promise.” She said seriously.

Some months ago she would have laughed her ass off and mocked Alec to get his ass together. But now she’d never do that. He was her friend. He was an annoying smart-aleck, but he had her back.

“I need a scotch.” was all Alec voiced for the rest of the flight.

So while Alec got drunk Max and Original Cindy took a glance at the other people sitting in the plane.

For example there was a couple. She was a blonde in Max’s age and he had dark brown hair and was maybe 5 years older than her. They were chatting and kissing all the time. About what, Max didn’t want to hear. It was private. You had to learn to stop listening if you could hear nearly everything.

Then there was a young man, maybe twenty years old. You couldn’t see much of him because he wore a cowboy hat that covered his face while he slept soundly.

In Sydney a woman in her late twenties entered the plan and sat down in a seat near Max’s. She had red curly hair and seemed like a nice woman.

“I wonder why all those people are on this plan to Hawaii.” Max spoke up.

“Boo, I dunno, but this red-head is one hot girl!” Original Cindy announced to her friends, grinning widely. “And if she’s gonna go where I’m going, she is gonna get laid. I promise!”
