Whatever You Say
By cleojan5

A/N: This is a sequel/companion to Just as Friends. So many people liked that one that I decided to make a sequel. You don't have to read that one to understnd this one, however. They just sort of go together.

Hermione Granger sat down in the common room, trying to concentrate on her Charms essay. It was impossible though, and, surprisingly, it was not the usual reason of it being too loud. It was quite the contrary; there was no one in the Common Room at all. Everyone else was still at dinner.

She sighed and tried once again to keep her mind on her homework, but something else kept pushing itself to the front of her brain. No, she thought. It’s absolutely ridiculous… But the thought continued to swim to the front of her brain, leaving no room for homework.

She pushed her parchment away from her and crossed her arms. She would have to work on her homework later when she was more… focused. That was the matter. She just wasn’t focused.

But there isn’t any reason not to be focused… She pushed thenotion as far away from her as she could. She just wouldn’t think about it. But that was impossible. Try as she might the image of a certain boy kept appearing.

It really wasn’t a big deal, or so she kept telling herself. It was just a boy. Just a boy. But since it was that particular boy… that made it different. That made it matter.

The portrait door opened and he came into the common room. She stood up abruptly, a little startled.

“Hey.” He said. “I didn’t know you were up here. Why weren’t you at dinner?”

“Homework,” she said, gesturing toward her parchment and quill.

“Homework has never gotten in the way of coming to dinner before.” He pointed out.

“I just-I didn’t feel like eating. I’m not hungry.”

He raised his eyebrows. “Whatever you say.”

He stepped closer to her; closer and closer until we was right in front of her. Suddenly he looked so tall. He had always been tall, but she had never really thought about how tall he actually was. She blushed.

Her eyes seemed glued to his, as though their connection was all that was keeping her together, as though it was the only thing keeping her from falling apart. He leaned closer until they were so close they were almost touching. She seemed to be losing herself in his eyes…

And then he kissed her. It was the most wonderful yet frightening thing she had ever imagined. She counted her heartbeats…1…2…3…4.

They broke apart.

“It was only a kiss,” he said awkwardly.

“Whatever you say,” she said laughing, and she leaned forward to kiss him again.
