A/N: I wanted to write Kannazuki no Miko fanfiction. I tried humor. I probably shouldn't have… . Not so sure on how I feel about how this turned out…

Title: On Hold
Rating: PG
Pairing: ChikanexHimeko
Summary: Jealous Chikane, an idiot Souma, and poor Himeko in the hospital. And phone calls. Especially so. After-series; a bit weird.

She was in the hospital.

Himemiya Chikane was bored and worried. She was bored since she had nothing to do with her hands. And she was worried, worried for the little bird who had landed herself a good week's worth in the hospital.

She knew she could be both. It had just been this morning she had gotten a phone call (3:26AM to be precise) from "Oogami-kun" (she mentally scoffed) that her dear Himeko had a very bad tumble from the University's highest staircase to the floor (Chikane was now very glad they didn't live in the manor anymore, but the cozy little apartment (one-story mind you)they had both rented out upon finding each other once again- since it didn't seem Himeko was very safe around stairs). She had being the person she was, informed him that she would be at the hospital in no less than twenty-minutes, only to be politely told that the doctor would not let Himeko have 'visitors'. She really, really hated him then; more so when she was told to get some rest and wait later in the morning. That he would call.

Her… wait! (For a bloody call no less!) What was wrong with the people in this world? She loved Himeko, but the girl stopping her from destroying the dratted over-populated thing may have had been a very wrong decision for their sake. Well, she didn't entirely mean that, but she felt very close to.

That idiot boy with his nerve. She honestly wanted to boot him off some jolly old flight of stairs.

She sighed, hands deciding the non-movement of themselves over bearing; remedying it with the right fiddling with one of the bang's midnight blue locks and the left tapping at the square notepad by the phone.

She should go visit the little bird.

She glanced over at the phone and it was a wonder why frost wasn't forming over it from the icy glare she sent it.

That damned "Oogami-kun" (Himeko's sweet voice included) was suppose to call her to inform her of when exactly she would be able to come visit. It had been hours already and Chikane was pretty sure that the doctor was another one of those relatives that the boy always seemed to have and it was irritating her. For why was he the one to be able to be with Himeko in such a dire time? (sure he was the one who called the ambulance, but still- her and Himeko were bound by fate, didn't that count as something!) She huffed it was just her luck that not only she would meet Himeko, but he would as well (and he got there first! She knew she was born on a godless month, but surely couldn't she have some slack?).

That boy was annoying.

She should have killed him when she had the chance.

The kettle whistled a sure sign that the water was ready, seemingly glad in its shrill tune at breaking through her thoughts and review of the morning. Getting up from her un-comfortable spot from the bench she had chose to use to reside in to be nearer to the phone (damn thing better ring), she went to finish making tea but decided against it and only turned the stove off. Gliding her fingers over the kitchen counter she swirled around to the other side of the counter and seated herself by the telephone once again.

The force of the swerve resulted of a worn green slipper falling off and she vaguely considered getting new ones. And flowers for Himeko. Yes, flowers would be good.

'Roses,' she was thinking, considering. But she often was given them from the girl, so she should give her least something different… such as lilacs? Those were nice (reminded her of Himeko's eyes) or maybe periwinkle? She quite liked the name…

Or perhaps neither, since she didn't know what kind of flowers the girl had received, and she would rather eat horse meat than get her the same kind of flowers the damned "Oogami-kun" was surely going to give. She bit her lip and tried to break the scowl that had set upon her face.

Every since she had heard of the news of Himeko befriending him, knowing, attending grade school with him and so forth- along with that 'best friend' factor, she couldn't help but scowl. Himeko would often catch her and tease her of early wrinkles.

Damn, why wasn't that phone ringing?

Bad things could happen when she wasn't near Himeko (though she pushed aside that fact that the opposite was more likely to happen, they were both born on that dreaded godless month) and she was starting to not only feel irritable but she was slowly feeling that familiar blind panic when she couldn't protect the girl.

She really needed a distraction.

Something to do with her hands.

She was starting to regret not making that tea she had wanted with the breakfast toast; that now lay cold and forgotten on the counter (the clock time was now nearing 10:00AM, she worried her bottom lip some more) along with the notepad by her elbow. It would have done well to keep her busy for a little while and may have calmed her, if only she had made the tea…

Her hands started to finger the notepad's sheets of paper and she without blinking, sharply and cleanly pulled a sheet out, proceeding to start to fold it.

It was 10:00AM now. Seven hours and thirty-four minutes from when that idiot boy had called. She cursed herself for going back to sleep.

The phone rang.

Paper ripped, the toast fell along with the plate to the floor, leaving a sharp mess she would deal with later.

"Hello?" she answered. It was about damn time the boy called.

"Hi, are you having back problems?"

"What?" she was incredulous surely this wasn't-

"If so, please call the massage clinic of -"

Chikane hung up the phone.

Damn the Souma, she was visiting now.

She put on her coat and grabbed some money for the bus.
