Chapter 1, Ten Years Later

Remy was standing outside his balcony just staring at the night sky. His life was strange...he was abandoned at birth by his parents because of his eyes. The eyes that everyone feared...hated, and it just didn't feel right. Right now he was wondering about his life...he was just ten years old, but the man in him worried that he'd be stuck here for the rest of his life and never get away to find Marie. Sighing, he turned to the view again and looked out. He heard someone clearing their throat behind him. It was his adoptive father.
"Remy mon boy. Wut y' doin'?"
"T'inkin' pere...why?" He asked his father. Jean-Luc LeBeau...king o' t'ieves...Marie never gonna fo'give moi fo' bein' a t'eif. But got no ot'er choice righ' now. Dis where I'm sposed t' be. Remy sighed as his 'father' spoke again.
"Well y' not sposed t' be t'inkin' righ' now. Mattie in de kitchen cookin' boy, she wanna see y'."
"Kay pere." He smiled and went down to see her.
Tante Mattie was one of his favorite family members, besides his cousin' Lapin. She knew how to cook some of the best food he had ever tasted. Sure, in his past lives he learned how to cook good...but he knew he'd learn an awful lot from her. "Hey child, don' be runnin'...I know y' happy t' see moi t'ough aren' ya Remy?"
"Oui, Tante." Remy smiled as she gave him a hug. "Wut we cookin' t'day?"

Marie looked out her window...her parents didn't want her around...she was in an adoptive family...but she still didn't have a last name. She was worried, scared and alone. The only friend she had was Cody and he'd be over every day to check on her. The only thing that bothered her most was she missed Remy. Missed his voice, smile, laugh, comforting French whispers in her ear, and most of all...his new set of eyes. Red on black. The most interesting color combination that she'd ever seen in her entire life.
She then heard a knock on her door, breaking her out of her daze. Soon she found herself walking to the door to see Cody standing there.
"Hey Marie...parent's out again?" He asked.
"Yeah, they wen' out a while ago. Probably won' see them fo' a few days." She answered and walked over to the couch.
"You've been kinda out of it lately, something wrong?"
"Ah dunno. Ah jus' feel weird, Cody. Like somethin's missin'." Yeah. She thought to herself. Remy...I miss yah s' much it hurts. She then sighed.
"Wanna start working on that homework?"
"Why not, Ah haven' got nothin' bettah ta do then sit here and twiddle mah thumbs."

Remy had just gotten back from a very strange place and went directly up to his room. He still remembered it like it happened yesterday...he was just sitting there playing poker with his cousin's and his brother when he got angry and the cards just blew up. Sighing, he just ran his hands over his face and then looked out the window. I wonder how y' doin' chere, Remy ain' got much o' a life here widout y'. After a few moments of looking out the window he was greeted by a blonde-haired young woman a little bit younger than himself.
"Hey Remy. I heard wut happened t' y'. Y' okay?" He looked up and saw Belladonna. They were friends, nothing more...and she just couldn't understand that. Outta all de people Remy wanna see righ' now, y' not one o' dem. He sighed.
"Non, not okay. Remy wanna be alone now...sorry. Migh' talk t' y' some ot'er time." He stated rubbing his temples in a circular fashion.
"Sorry...I come back later." She said with a giggle and walked out. Remy just buried his head in his pillow and sighed. That's when he was brought out of his thoughts by his father.
"Remy, dere be somet'ing I need t' tell y' son." He sighed. "Too much be happenin' wid de guilds righ' now. Me an' de assassin leader been talkin'. An' we t'ink dat it be bes' dat y' marry Bella on yo' eighteenth birt'day."
"Quoi! Non! Non! Non! Je ne pense pas ainsi, père ! Il n'y a aucune manière que je l'épouse ! Oubliez-le!" He stated not being able to form a coherent sentence in English due to the shock. (Translation: I don't think so, father! There is no way that I am marrying her! Forget it!)
"Remy, I'm afraid dat dere be no discussin' dis." His father sighed. "It be fo' de guild."
"Pour une fois le père, vissez les guildes ! C'est ma vie ! Je ne vous laisserai pas ou les guildes la ruinent!" Remy bit back angerly. (Translation: For once father, screw the guilds! This is my life! I won't let you or the guilds ruin it!) "Now get out!"
"One day Remy, y'll see why dat I be doin' dis. One day y'll understan'. Yo' too young yet." Jean-Luc stated.
"Jus' Get Out!" Remy shouted and turned away, tears staining his eyes. I've got t' get away from dis...if he gets his way, I'll never see mon amour again! Got to get out!

Marie sat on the curve of a nearby road looking through tear streaked eyes. Cody had died the night before, he'd been in a coma for three years. She was just talking to him, he hugged her, and then he fell over. There was no where for her to go, so she ran. "Remy..." she sniffled to herself softly. "Ah've gotta fin' yah..."
"Child...why do you cry?" Said a female voice.
Marie looked up to see a blonde woman with eyeglasses looking down at her. Grey business suit, with a white top. "Ah've got no place ta go."
"And why is that?" She smiled at her.
"Ah'm not wanted." Marie turned away, her eyes filling once more with tears.
"Well, I will take care of you. What is your name?"
Marie thought for a moment and then responded. "Rogue."
"I see. Rogue, my name is Raven Darkholme." She smiled. "I shall take you to someone who will care for you."
Marie sniffled once more. "Thank yah." Ah'm gonna fin' yah Remy, some day. She then smiled at Raven and got into her vehicle. Turning to see the view, and thinking maybe her life was going to get a little bit better as the years went by.
