Vampire Waltz

AN: one shot vampire fic. Maybe ch2 someday.

Ever since the ankh-qbek-heka was performed, Atemu was in a body of his own, in the 21st century. Ever since that day, Yugi and Atemu spent every day together, reveling in that they didn’t have to share a body anymore. Yugi showed Atemu everything he knew about the modern world, and Atemu took everything in, marveling at how technology and just everything in society has progressed in 5000 years.

What Atemu liked best was celebrating holidays with his little hikari. They celebrated many holidays together, but Atemu’s favorite thus far was Valentines Day. On that day, he got many roses from the other girls at school. Yugi was a bit jealous that day.

But one holiday that Atemu really wanted to experience was Halloween.

When Atemu asked about it, Yugi stated that on this one dark night of the year, everyone dresses up in costumes, and goes around ringing people’s doorbells, saying “trick or treat” and get free candy.

Halloween was tomorrow.

So the afternoon before, Atemu and Yugi went to the Spirit Halloween store and picked out costumes.

Atemu looked at the various costumes on display. He looked at the mummy costumes for quite some time, and Yugi walked over, and asked Atemu, “You want to be a mummy for Halloween?”

Atemu sighed. “No. I’m just thinking about how I can have this body… when my corpse is probably lying somewhere in a museum…”

Yugi nudged Atemu in the ribs. “Hey… don’t even think about that... Just enjoy the moment right now…”

As Atemu and Yugi walked around, Atemu teased Yugi by nudging a blue and white maid outfit to his side. Yugi laughed, and shoved the dress away, blushing.

Soon the two came to the masks, and Atemu looked in awe. The masks looked so realistic. Oddly enough, there was one with his face on it.

Atemu picked up the mask and cocked and eyebrow. “What the hell is this? Why is my face like this?”

Yugi laughed. “Blame commercializing. You should see how they tried to copy your outfit in Duelist Kingdom… Hey, look, they even have little plastic millennium puzzle replicas!”

Atemu’s fist shook in anger. “How dare they make a mockery of me! I swear I’ll-“

Atemu was suddenly cut off as he spotted the perfect Halloween costume.

A black and dark red outfit, it was designed to be a vampire outfit, but one look at the dark red velvet and black leather, and Atemu knew that’s what he wanted to be.

Atemu walked over the costume and ran his hand on the velvet. Yugi walked over to him and smiled. “So, you want to be a vampire for Halloween?”

Atemu looked at Yugi in surprise. “What’s a vampire?”

Yugi smiled and explained the story of the vampire to him.

When the story was said and done, Atemu wanted to be a vampire even more.

Yugi smiled, grabbed the costume, and pulled Atemu away to help him choose a costume out for himself. Eventually, Yugi decided to join Atemu and dress up as a vampire outfit as well. Yugi chose a dark purple velvet and black leather outfit, with white frills.

The two then moved on the props and makeup, bought some fangs and white face powder, paid for everything, and left the shop, excited for the night ahead.

After school tomorrow, the gang decided to go to Mokuba’s Halloween party at the mansion together. They would all meet up at Yugi’s house first, and then all go to the mansion together.

Since this year was a lunar year, the moon was full on Halloween. The sky was clear, the air was crisp, and Atemu couldn’t wait.

The doorbell rang, and Yugi answered it.

The first person he saw was Joey. Wearing a tan and brown dog costume.

Joey scowled. “Don’t say anything. This is the only thing I could get, and I had to borrow it from Duke.”

Anzu walked in, wearing a dark magician girl outfit, she said it was the same one used in Broadway for the “midnight magic” play. Yugi blushed at the revealing outfit.

Bakura wore a bed sheet with two holes in it. “I decided to make a budget-wise costume.”

When the gang arrived at the mansion, they could tell Kaiba had taken the extra effort to dress the mansion up. Holographic projections of ghouls and goblins popped up everywhere, surprising everyone.

Inside the main hallway, various people, friends from school, as well as other business partners of Kaiba, were all dressed up, drinking punch and talking.

Soon the music started, and every started to dance.

Anzu asked Yugi to dance, and Yugi accepted, leaving Atemu to sit at a booth, sipping punch.

All of a sudden, the lights went off, and people stopped dancing started screaming and panicking.

Kaiba’s voice came over the music. “Please don’t panic, this is just a minor power surge.”

Atemu couldn’t see a damn thing. It was pitch black, and he started to back into a wall.

He felt a draft of wind upon his neck, and when he looked around, he saw a real pale-faced vampire, sitting on the window sill above him.

Atemu started to scream, but with the chaos of the people panicking around him, his voice became lost. The vampire jumped on him and bit down on his neck.

The blood slowly flowed out of his body; he could feel his life slipping away, being replaced by a cursed life.

The vampire slit his wrist and forcefully made Atemu drink the blood. Atemu kept the wrist in his mouth, desperately sucking the blood. He knew that he didn’t want to have a cursed life, but what choice did he have? It was either live as a demon or die as a hollow soul.

The vampire suddenly lurched back, hissing. His forearm separated from Atemu, and the gash wound healed.

Yugi had rushed over, punching the vampire in the face.

Atemu collapsed, and wearily looked up. “Yu…Yugi…”

The moonlight flowed from the window, landing on Yugi’s face. Yugi stepped backwards, partially because he was afraid, and also because he had no idea who he just hit, only that this creature was hurting Atemu.

The vampire hissed as he got back up. His eyes were a glowing crimson red, and his face was pale. He had sleek black hair, and wore a red and black cape.

The vampire laughed and transformed into a vampire bat, and flew away.

Yugi rushed towards Atemu, and pulled him up to stand.

The lights came back on, and the music started once again.

Atemu winced as the bright fluorescent lights came on. Atemu looked down at the ground, his neck still hurt from the bite. Yugi held Atemu’s chin his hand. “Are you ok?”

Atemu shook his head. “I… I don’t think so… Yugi… I… I need to go…”

With that, Atemu walked out of the mansion, staggering every 2 steps or so.

Anzu walked up to Yugi. “What was that all about?”

Yugi was worried. “Something attacked him… I think it was an idiot dressed up as a vampire… but… I’m not sure… Um… I’m going home early. Why don’t you enjoy the rest of the party with Joey and the others?”

Atemu walked out into the courtyard, his mind was spinning. He noticed he couldn’t close his mouth completely, and when he took out the plastic fangs, he realized he had actually grown real fangs.

“What… what the hell?”

A sharp pang in his stomach forced Atemu to realize he was hungry.

He needed food.

Atemu sniffed the air, and hissed. “Blood…”

Atemu groaned. “What the hell am I thinking?”

Yugi ran up to him. “Atemu, what’s wrong? You need a tetanus shot or something?”

Atemu stared at his hikari. He stared at his face, and then focused his attention on his neck.

“Atemu… your eyes… they’re blood red!”

Atemu growled, and scowled as he grabbed Yugi, covered his mouth, and bit hard on his neck, sucking the blood out.

Yugi’s cries of help were muffled. Atemu eyes shot open as he realized his mistake.

He pulled his fangs out of Yugi’s neck, and he realized he’d drank about half of Yugi’s blood.

“No… Yugi… I’m so sorry… What the hell… damn it…”

With that, Atemu slit his wrist and held Yugi’s head, with his mouth gaping open, and let the blood from his wrist drip into Yugi’s mouth.

Yugi gagged slightly and sat back up, coughing. When Atemu looked at him, Yugi’s eyes were a red-amethyst color, and his skin became slightly pale.

Atemu kept looking at Yugi.

“I’m sorry…”

With that, Atemu flew off into the night, his tears trailing behind him.

From that point on, Yugi and Atemu were connected through blood, and Yugi had no choice but to say goodbye to Atemu once more. To only see him at night.
