Disclaimer: I don't own InuYasha or the song "I Will Remember You" by: Sarah McLachlan

This takes place about two years later, Naraku is dead, and YES the jewel is completed for those who don't really get it 0.o

Haori: InuYasha's shirt
Miko: Priestess
Hanyou: Half-demon
Katana: A type of sword, the one Sango uses
Shikon no Tama: Jewel of Four Souls

The young miko girl stood there, she looked around sixteen or seventeen years old. Her wavy raven hair fell to her shoulders and her chocolate brown eyes glazed over with tears. She wore a green school uniform which was littered with dark spots from her fallen tears that had managed to make their way down her already tear-stained cheeks. Her hands were shaking and gripping the lip of an old well behind her; occasionally making a futile attempt to wipe away the tears from her face.

“InuYasha…” Her lips whispered, looking over to a young man standing about five feet from her, looking rather hopeless and sad himself.

His expression was that of someone trying to block off their emotions, but to no avail to hide his sadness. His red kimono still in one piece despite the battles they had all been in together. The trademark Tetsusaiga at his hip, looking nothing but a simple katana at the moment but was actually a deadly fang of now his own. His golden eyes fixed apon the girl, sadness apparent in them in all forms. His silver dog ears perched on top his head were no longer perked and twitching this way and that for any signs of danger, instead they drooped down to the side, marking even more of his mood. His silver hair came down to his waist and past some, usually glittering in the sunlight it now looked dulled since the sun had disappeared on this day despite their good weather for the past few days.

But no, the sun would not even grace them with happiness today, the clouds blocked that.

Just like a cloud blocked between the two standing and trying to hold back their tears or depressed state.

“Kagome…” The boy whispered; looking over at the girl before his eyes moved towards the ground.

The girl nodded; a hidden understanding between them as she moved her hand towards her neck and pulled off a necklace. A bright pink jewel the size of a ping pong ball was in her shaking fingers, swirling with unbidden and pure energy that completely radiated off of the girl called Kagome. “I know…” She whispered softly, her tears momentarily stopping as she held out the jewel for the boy to take.

“I guess… I should go now… take the jewel… make your wish.” Kagome said softly, looking at the ground before turning her glittering eyes back to the golden and broken ones in front of her as she determinedly held the jewel for him to take.

The hanyou reached out and his clawed hands gently took the jewel from the girl. “Yeah… g-goodbye…” He said softly, his eyes no longer meeting hers.

I will remember you
Will you remember me?

“I… I’ll miss you.” Kagome said softly, turning around and looking down into the deep well that no longer looked as welcoming as it had been before.

As if on cue there was a flash in the sky, although no thunder sounded…

Or maybe it was just because right now the whole world was silent and dreary… just for them.

Rain started to pour down but none of them moved.

“I’ll miss you too… Kagome…” InuYasha replied softly, strangely his words were caught amongst the pattering of the rain on top the leaves surrounding the now dark forest around them.

Kagome felt tears prick at her eyes again and shook her head, as though trying to shake them away. “Bye…” She said softly, a simple word as she jumped into the well and back to her life she had left behind before destiny had its way with her and her emotions which now backfired and cursed the girl to nothing but pain in her heart at the moment.

Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

Kagome climbed out of the well, into her own era and she sat down on the old lip of the well, looking around at the small dark and dusty mini shrine, wondering all the times she had come back here in a furious rage.

But not now…

Now she was back for good, she was saddened to leave…

Tears continued to stream down her face, she had grown so used to the feeling so now she hardly noticed them except for when they made their way onto the backs of her hands or her legs.

“InuYasha…” She whispered, her voice pained and longing for the boy that she had so often wished for and snapped at in the same breath. The hanyou that had been teased and tormented for being born but she had been able to heal those wounds away… to heal the scars along him with friendship and love. To offer him her heart…

And then have her heart crushed…

She had known she was too foolish to ever think of it that way… she had to return to this era, and he had to stay in that one… and fulfill his wish to become a demon…

It was the right choice…

Yet it felt so wrong…

Remember the good times that we had?
I let them slip away from us when things got bad

She had always gotten mad at InuYasha so easily, sometimes she could be just as stubborn as he… and she would come back here, muttering about how annoying he had been.

A small laugh left her throat on how she always forgave him so easily, she couldn’t be mad at him too long. She would stay here for a day and then either she would return back to that era like nothing had happened, or InuYasha would come to this one and tell her to come back.

She remembered being able to make him smile and laugh… to see him break through that usual scowl on his face for the first time. For being able to love and care for him so deeply and then have him love her back but yet he never spoke of it… she could tell it was there…

No matter how much they had argued in the past, they had always at least made up in the end…

How clearly I first saw you smilin' in the sun
Wanna feel your warmth upon me, I wanna be the one

She remembered the day she had first met that stubborn hanyou…

She had fallen through the well and ended up in that era, completely confused and was almost certain it was some odd dream. She had started through the forest, trying to find her way home by heading towards the Goshinboku and hoping her home was there, or that someone was there… someone to wake her up.

She was right though, there was someone there… although she ended waking him up instead.

She remembered it perfectly… she had walked into the clearing, expecting to be home but instead coming into another clearing with nothing but the Goshinboku.

And a boy…

She was amazed by him… his hair was so silver it glinted off the sunlight and looked like such a pure bright white color. His ears were so different yet they matched him so beautifully. He had claws, so sharp they looked able to pierce through anything without hesitation… but she didn’t care at all…

To others he looked like a monster, chained up by the vines of such a pure tree, an arrow through his heart pinning him there for eternity and more.

But to her…

He looked beautiful…

And she knew that somehow in her heart, she would never forget him.

I will remember you
Will you remember me?

“InuYasha…” The word echoed from her lips around the small room. “InuYasha…” She whispered again, crying harder now. “You won’t forget me… will you?” She asked quietly, a sob echoing from her throat to around the empty room.

“Please don’t forget me… or what’s happened… please don’t go back to hating humans… please…” She begged, falling off the well to her knees as she turned around and rested her head against the lip of the well. “Promise…” She whispered, her tears spilling off her face and past her quivering and echoing lips and onto the lip of the well before slowly descending into the dark well that no longer looked as welcoming as it had been before.

Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

Kagome continued to cry on the well, her soft sobs echoing into the dark abyss that used to be a link between her and InuYasha, a link between her and that world she loved so much.

Yet she left it behind… she left Sango, Miroku, Shippo, Kirara, Kaede, the villagers, and InuYasha…

She left behind the one place that had felt like home to her.

The people that she had loved like family and protected with her life even though often she was the one being protected by them.

She left behind it all for a life full of things she seemed to have outgrown. She no longer worried about tests or who liked who but had grown used to worrying about people being killed or not having enough to eat…

How could she go back to this?

I'm so tired but I can't sleep
Standin' on the edge of something much too deep

InuYasha sat down, leaning against the oh-so faithful trunk of the Goshinboku. The rain was pouring down in torrents and he was getting soaked despite the branches of the huge tree.

The jewel he knew was tainted in his hands, and it always would be…

But not Kagome’s hands…

He hated himself… he hated himself for letting her go, for not being able to say anything to her, for not telling her to take the jewel with her, to tell her to make the wish instead of a lowly hanyou like himself. He should have told her how sorry he was, how horrible he felt… he could have told her so much in that instant… anything to make her want to stay with him…

Heck… he could have just said ‘don’t leave me’ and she would have stayed with him in a heartbeat.

It was dark out and he could tell despite the clouds that it was night out. He had been sitting there for a few hours already but didn’t dare go back to the village. Why should he?

He couldn’t sleep, the pain felt too much to even think of sleeping… he couldn’t close his eyes… he knew that if he did his mind would turn on him in a cruel dream. He knew he would only dream of waking up with Kagome in his arms, or wake up to Kagome calling for him… and then when he truly woke up no one would be there and the pain would wash over him, doubled over with the pain of there being any hope that she could have returned back to them.

Its funny how we feel so much but we cannot say a word
We are screaming inside, but we can't be heard

InuYasha looked over at the well, wishing more then ever to just jump into it and return to Kagome. He wanted to hug her, to tell her all the things he should have said. He wanted to tell her to use the jewel; he wanted to ask her so many things that he still hasn’t learned, even after all his years of being with her. He wanted to grab her and hug her close and pretend that it was just some ugly dream…

Heck… he even wanted to break the jewel in to shards again… just so he would be able to see her and tell her he needed her to come back.

But he couldn’t go back now; he couldn’t face her after just watching her go with only a few words and his gaze… he gave her nothing.

He gave her nothing but a few words of how he would miss her, nothing more then something you could get out of a recording, or something that sounded like it had been rehearsed by someone… but then again it pretty much had been… he had been thinking over the thousands of things to say to her. But yet… he was only able to just say one.

But I will remember you
Will you remember me?

Part of him wondered what Kagome was doing now…

Maybe she had gone back to her room and was studying for one of those upcoming tests she always seemed to have.

Or maybe she was with her friends again… those three girls that always seemed to care about her a lot… after all they had gotten mad at him before because of what Kagome had told them.

Would she forget him in that era of hers? Maybe she would go and forget about him as she started to like that other guy… Hobo or whatever the hell his name had been.

But one thing was certain, he would never forget her… he could never forget the girl he had… he had…

That he had protected… nothing more…

Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

This tree had been the place they first met… the place she had awakened him and he had tried to kill her for the first time. This was the tree he had been sealed to for so long, and woke up to her scent, her face, her touch…

InuYasha felt something sting at his eyes and wondered if something had gotten into them. He wiped at them irritably before looking back up at the rain, letting it wash down on his face.

The prickling sensation behind his eyes was back, and it was worse now.

Kagome… she had always been there for him… no matter what happened. She was the one who transformed him back from a demon even if it was a great risk to her own life in the process. She had always put his interests and his voice before hers, even when he didn’t deserve it.

I'm so afraid to love you, but more afraid to loose
Clinging to a past that doesn't let me choose

What was this feeling he had? The feeling for utter pain when he thought of Kagome… yet he never wanted to stop thinking about her. He couldn’t stop… he wanted to think about the young miko he had traveled with, whom he had seen grow stronger from how she had been before and was now stronger then most women would ever be in this era.

This feeling… he knew it too well…

It was love…

He loved Kagome…

But he couldn’t love her! He… owed his life to Kikyou…

And too many things had happened for him to love her… he had loved his mother… and she had died. Later on he had fallen in love with Kikyou and she had died. She died for him… to be with him…

He couldn’t repay her except with his own life like he had said.

He wanted to love Kagome… he wanted to tell her that… he wanted to be able to hold her with only the simple reason that he loved her and cared for her.

But he couldn’t…

He would give everything up… leave everything behind him and then… it would only end up in heartbreak… no matter what happened, Kagome would always only live to be near a hundred at the most… if he lost her he would have to live through so long without her… his heart would never be mended after that… no one could replace the pieces Kagome had filled in so easily and gently with her soft words and her smiles.

Once there was a darkness, deep and endless night
You gave me everything you had, oh you gave me light

He had felt that pain for too long… his mother had been brutally murdered for bearing him as a son and he had been broken and tormented for his life, beaten for only the reason of being born a hanyou. He had been ridiculed and rejected from humans and demons alike, his only company was himself and his surroundings that had felt like they had been rejecting him as well. In the summer he was sure the sun made particular attention to getting him extremely hot and humid, and when he woke up during the winter he was certain that there was always a few inches of extra snow on himself.

But he had survived through what most hanyous couldn’t…

He was broken, hard, cold, and he loathed all demons and humans alike…

But that had all changed when he met Kikyou… he had wanted the jewel but found something more.

He had found someone to heal his heart that had been shattered.

He had found someone that looked at him like a friend then just a monster.

Then that day happened again… he had told himself that he loved Kikyou and would change for her…

And Kikyou was killed not soon after.

And now Kagome…

She was healing his horribly bandaged and glass heart. She was the one that had been able to see through his act so easily and had seen his heart. With that, she had tried to heal him, to help him smile more, and laugh more with her. Sometimes she cut her hands on the glass, but would continue, she wouldn’t stop, and even her fiery temper was sometimes able to make him smile on the inside.

She had dug him out of his own grave, or unpinned him to be more literal…

But now she was gone…

And I will remember you
Will you remember me?

Kagome’s nails bit into the palms of her hands “InuYasha…” She said softly, looking at the well before standing up.

She couldn’t just sit around here…

She wasn’t going to give up that easy. The jewel may be finished but… she wasn’t finished with him!

She had to think of a way, a way to open the well again…

“InuYasha… please… please hear me…” She said quietly, kneeling down next to the Bone Eater’s well

Kagome closed her eyes and rested her head against the lip of the well, trying to see if she could contact InuYasha… somehow…

She needed to see him again…

She wasn’t going to let him get away from her.

“InuYasha… InuYasha you idiot!” She called, her voice echoing into the well as she looked down into the dark depths of it.

“How could you do this to me! You’re such a jerk! Don’t leave me like this!” She screamed, her voice hoarse from crying and shaking a little as she fought back the urge to start crying yet again for the loss of the one person she could truthfully say that she had indeed fallen hopelessly in love with for the rest of her life.

She would never forget him

She would never move on.

And goddammit she wouldn’t leave this spot until he came to get her!

Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

“Kagome…” InuYasha whispered softly, pain struck him harder then it had ever been before.

Kagome… she had been able to heal him, to piece together his shattered glass heart. But now… he could feel it breaking all over again, the shards of glass cutting into his body and his soul, and he could sure as hell feel it now.

Muttering a feh, the hanyou jumped from the tree and darted through the forest, slipping on the wet and soggy ground before coming to a halt, not that far away to the bone eaters well.

Did I honestly think she’d be back? Sitting on that well as she always was, her smile sparkling and clearing up the clouds? She’s never coming back… I can’t be so stupid as to not realize that… but still…’

“Kagome…” He whispered, the name sounding so familiar yet so foreign to his lips.

How was he ever supposed to move on now?

When he couldn’t forget her…

His hand gently reached for the jewel in his haori, pulling it out he gazed at the jewel which surprisingly wasn’t as tainted as it had been before in his hands. Maybe it was the well… or just the memory of Kagome… but the jewel was certainly more pure then it had been before in his hands.

And I will remember you
Will you remember me?

InuYasha looked down at the jewel in his hands; he knew it probably wouldn’t work, not to a filthy hanyou like him…

But it was worth a shot…

So he closed his eyes…

And made his wish…

Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

Kagome started to cry again “InuYasha you idiot! I need you!” She cried, her head buried back in her arms.

“I’m an idiot now?” Came the familiar voice as the young miko peered into the well, only to find no one was there.

Her breath caught in her throat at how cruel her mind could be to her.

At least, until she felt two strong arms lift her up off the ground and into InuYasha’s welcoming arms.

“You won’t… forget about me?” Kagome asked softly, looking up at his beautiful golden eyes, the ones that had first seen her when he woke up from his long sleep.

“Feh, like I could…” InuYasha answered; his face a light red and he turned away. “C’mon Kagome… let’s go.” He said simply, looking back at the girl in his arms who was starting to look a little confused now.

Kagome blinked “Go? Go where?” She asked, looking up at him and surprised to find his face so close to hers.

She was even more surprised to find that his lips were on hers…

The kiss was only fleeting but it explained to her what InuYasha still found hard to put into words…

“Home, stupid, where else?” InuYasha asked, before heading over to the well and jumping back into the bright blue light that welcomed them back with open arms, even with the nonappearance of the Shikon no Tama.

Weep not for the memories…

Figured I'd try this mostly to keep readers busy while I try and get over my writers block. It's the end of the term soon so I really had to work on a lot of things to get them graded (I still don't think I'll do well T-T

But this is a really good song, I fell in love with it when I was like... five or something, back when 'Fly Away Home' was out. I never really understood the movie but I remember this was one of the opening songs, it was so sad T-T because the girl's mother and her are in a car crash and her mother dies. I'm actually very proud that I can sing this song very well too +--+

I just now noticed that the lyrics really expressed what might happen if Kagome were to ever go back home.

I know it doesn't really have much of a plot, that the ending is rather rushed, and exc... but I tried pretty hard on it : )

Well, enjoy!

Love ya all bunches and please review!
