Lily and I apparated to the Potter's house together because she had never been before. We got ready before leaving, so we didn't arrive over there until about four in the afternoon, because Lily insisted that we were not late. I told her the party didn't start until seven, but she wouldn't have any of it. She just wanted to see James. I could see it on her face. When we apparated over, I made a point by apparating into James' room. I think we came at the wrong moment, however, because when we landed, James and Sirius seemed to be doing some sort of folk dance. They were hopping around in a small circle, yelping at the top of their lungs.

"Ahem," I spoke. They turned their heads and blushed.

"Um, we were just-"James began.

"It doesn't matter. We don't want to know," I interrupted," Now tell me where we can put our things."

"Your usual room," James said as he walked towards Lily. Sirius and I hurriedly walked out, not wanting to see the scene that was about to take place.

I walked into the room across from James and Sirius', the one I usually stay in when I visit the Potters. I put my small bags, and Lily's on the bed, and charmed them back to size. I then turned and spoke to Sirius.

"What were the two of you doing?" I asked with a grin, knowing he would tell me.

"Wouldn't you like to know," he said as he sat in the chair across the bed. There were two chairs across the bed. James, Sirius and I used to fight over them when we were little.

"I know you'll tell me Sirius Black," I said, sitting across from him. I used the full name, which always got him to talk.

"Therewasaspider," he whispered.

"What?"

"I said, there was a spider," he spoke audibly.

I laughed. I laughed so hard there were tears rolling down my face, ruining my make-up. Thank god Lily put that spell on the make up.

"It's not that funny," Sirius said.

"Yes it is," I said, trying to regain my composure.

"No it's not. You would've done the same thing."

"That is true."

"Then why is it funny?"

"Because it is," I answered as I stood up.

"That makes no sense," he said, following my lead. I ran out of the room and started down the stairs," Where are you going?"

I heard Sirius shout after me.

"VIVIAN!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. It was another thing I did when I visited James' house. I would always apparate upstairs, and then run down the stairs calling after James' mother.

"Kanika!" I heard her say from the kitchen.

"I should've known," I heard Sirius say from upstairs. I could hear him come down the stairs, so I ran into the kitchen, and hugged Mrs. Potter from behind.

"Hello dear, how are you?" she asked.

"I am doing very well. How are you doing?' I asked.

"Just peachy," she said," You look very nice."

I was wearing a red satin dress than fell at mid thigh. It was strapless, so I had a long-sleeved black shrug on over it.

"Why thank you Vivian," I joked.

"You are quite welcome," she said with a smile. She was getting many of the food platters ready for tonight. Just then Sirius walked into the kitchen.

"Kani, please take him out. He will eat all the food," Mrs. Potter joked.

"O ye of little faith," Sirius said, as he stood next to me. I gave him a look, and he gave me one in return. We could feel Mrs. Potter staring at us.

"Where's Lily?" Mrs. Potter finally asked.

"Guess," Sirius said, as he snuck a biscuit. Mrs. Potter slapped his hand. He grabbed it in mock pain because we both knew Mrs. Potter wouldn't hit him that hard.

"And what is that supposed to mean, dear Sirius?"

"Exactly what it sounds like." Mrs. Potter just shook her head. I slapped him on the arm.

"Ow! What was that for?"

"You know what that was for," I said.

"Actually, I do not. All I said was that you can probably assume where Lily is, seeing that she and James are dating," Sirius said as he rubbed his arm.

"Yes, but you don't have to be dirty about it."

"I wasn't being dirty about it. You just have a dirty mind and assumed I was being dirty about it," he said with his wonderful grin.

I just shook my head in response, and Mrs. Potter was doing the same.

"Hello? Where is everyone?" we heard a deep voice yell from the front of the house.

"In the kitchen, John," Mrs. Potter said. That deep voice was Mr. Potter, who had just returned from work. He walked into the kitchen. Standing there was the spitting image of James, just years older.

"Hello Kani, how are you?" he asked, as he walked over to Mrs. Potter and hugged her.

"I am just fine, Mr. Potter, how about you?"

"I'm holding up," he joked. I smiled back. Lily and James then walked in, slowly. I could tell Lily was nervous.

"Hey dad," James said.

"Hello James. Ah, you must be Lily," Mr. Potter said, extending his hand out. Lily took his hand a shook it. Her hand looked as if it were going to fall off because she was so nervous.

"Don't be nervous dear," Mrs. Potter said as she pulled Lily into a hug. I could see the shock on Lily's face. Sirius and I tried not to laugh.

"Oh hush you two," Mrs. Potter said," You would be nervous too."

Sirius and I looked at each other and started laughing again. Lily came and stood between the two of us and pinched my arm. This caused me to stop laughing and give her a glare.

"Why would we be nervous?' Sirius asked. I looked over at him in shock. What was he doing? I don't even know why I am freaking out, but still, what is he even talking about?

"Well, wouldn't you be nervous if you had to go meet the parents' of your special someone?" Mrs. Potter said. At this point, Mr. Potter had left to 'go finish up some work', and James and Lily were the ones with the smiles on their faces.

"Not especially. I would charm them right away and there would be nothing to be nervous about," Sirius joked. All I could do was shake my head. He looked over at me and winked. What was the supposed to mean?

"Sirius dear, believe me, when the time comes, you will be nervous," Mrs. Potter said as she touched his arm. She said this with all seriousness this time, as if she were implying something. I think Sirius read my mind.

"Are you implying something?" he asked slyly.

Mrs. Potter looked over at me, then back at him. The two of us froze, not knowing what to do.

"Well, I think I'll go do some homework now," Sirius said as he left the kitchen. Lily and James were trying to suppress laughs. I walked over to them and glared. I then followed Sirius up to James' room.

I walked into James' room and found Sirius lying on the floor. I stood over him, and saw his eyes were closed.

"What are you doing?" I whispered. He freaked out and jumped, causing me to fall down, landing, ironically, on top of him.

"Sorry," he said, as we untangled ourselves. Thank goodness Lily and James weren't there.

"It's okay. I shouldn't have scared you like that," I said with a grin. He just smiled back.

"So," he said.

"Do we always have to go through this?" I asked as leaned again James' bed.

"Of course. It's tradition," he said, sitting next to me.

I just shook my head. I could see the small crook in his chin from where I was sitting, and it made me melt. I leaned my head against his shoulder. I didn't care what he said. I had wanted to do that all break.

When Lily and I got here, I knew right then that she and James were right. I guess I am happier when I'm around Sirius. It's not like I plan it that way, it just happens. Being in his company makes me happy. Of course, we are only friends, which cause a problem. Another reason of that is me, though. I did tell him not to kiss me. Actually, I didn't really mean for him to not kiss me, I meant it more that we should take it slow. I hope he realized that.

"Kani?" Sirius asked

"What?" I practically whispered. I enjoyed being in that position with him. I mean, I could probably get used to that.

"I think we should go," he said, motioning that he was going to stand up. I nodded my head, and he helped me get up.

Trust Sirius to ruin the moment.

Sirius and I walked down the stairs and saw Lily and James sitting at the bottom.

"What were you two up to?" James asked. I glared at him and he backed off.

"People have started coming," Lily said as she stood next to me. I looked around and saw the Potters' living room slowly filling up with many Ministry officials. Every year, the Potters' hosted this New Years' Party for Ministry officials. I'd always come, and the three of us would play quidditch at midnight. This year was different of course, seeing as Lily was here.

"Fun," I said.

We all walked into the kitchen so we could avoid people.

"So, what should we do?" James asked.

"I dunno," I replied. I grabbed a small cracker off a platter that was sitting in the kitchen.

"What an entertaining night," Sirius said at 11:50. We were still in the kitchen, doing nothing. We had a few conversations, over the course of the four hours. James' mum came in a few times asking for our assistance, but we did nothing else.

"Kids, please come out. It's almost midnight," James' mother called. We slowly walked into the living room, where many adults were on their feet.

"10, 9, 8 …" they started counting. Slowly, small couple started forming. I stood there, not moving a muscle.

"5, 4, 3 …"

"Happy New Year!" they all yelled in unison. All the couples kissed. I turned to my right and saw Lily and James kissing, but trying to hide it at the same time. I smiled slightly. Suddenly, I felt someone else's lips on my own. I pulled away, and saw Sirius standing in front of me.

All around us, everyone was to busy hugging each other to notice the look on my face. I was shocked. I mean, I liked it, don't get me wrong, but I wasn't expecting it.

"Sirius, what are you …" I didn't get the chance to finish my sentence. He grabbed my wrist and pulled me into the kitchen.

"Sirius, what are you doing?" I got the chance to ask. I was leaning against the sink, and he was standing against me.

"Kani, what are we?" he asked softly.

"What do you mean?" I asked in return. I knew what he meant; I just didn't know what to say.

"You know what I mean Kani," he said. It's like he read my mind or something.

"I don't know Sirius. What do you want to be?" I asked. That was pretty stupid of me. I knew what he wanted. I'm just too nervous to do anything about it.

"Why do we always have to do this?" he said frustrated.

"Sirius, I'm sorry that I don't know what to do," I said, getting slightly angry.

"Kani, just …." And he kissed me, again. But this time I wasn't the one who pulled away; Sirius was.

"I'm sorry," he said. He arms were against the counter, one on each side of me. He was looking at the ground, and his hair was falling into his eyes. I had to admit, he looked gorgeous.

"Sirius, its okay," I said softly," It's my fault."

"What's your fault?" he looked up with a confused look on his face.

"Everything. I mean, every time this happens, I'm the one who runs away."

"Kani, you're not making any sense."

"Sirius, I-"And then it was me who kissed him.

"So it was you who kissed him?" Lily asked. It was three in the morning, and we were getting ready for bed.

After what happened in the kitchen, Sirius and I decided not to tell Lily and James right away. We helped clean everything up, said a quick goodnight, with a hug, and went to our rooms.

"Yup," I said.

"So? What does that mean now?" Lily asked. I gave her a sideways glance, but didn't actually answer her.

"So you two are dating?"

"I don't know," I said softly, as I began picking at the comforter on the bed.

"What do you mean you don't know? How can you not know?" she said as she sat next to me, trying to look me directly in the eyes.

"I mean, we didn't discuss it. I kissed him, and then ran. I didn't know what to do," I replied," which always happens."

"Kani, you need to stop being scared," she said omnisciently.

"But that's just it. I don't know how. I mean, every time something like this happens, I always run, and I don't know why. It just happens."

"You know very well why you are scared," Lily said. I gave her a blank look, and she replied," You don't want to be another of his shag partners."

I sat, silently thinking about the truth she just said.

Actually, I didn't go to bed. I lay in the bed, hoping to fall asleep, but I couldn't. I had been laying there for over an hour, and still couldn't fall asleep. Usually when I couldn't fall asleep at James' house, I went to see Sirius. He'd always make me feel better. But this time I couldn't. Not after I ran out on him, again. I wouldn't know what to do. I continued to lay there.

2 HOURS LATER

I still couldn't sleep. I decided, against my better judgment, to go to Sirius. I tiptoed over to James' room, which they shared when Sirius stayed here. I walked over to Sirius' bed, and poked him softly. He instantaneously turned over to see who had poked him. He looked at me for a moment, and then moved over, making a spot for me. I sat down slowly, and then looked over at him. He looked me directly in the eyes, and I knew he was thinking of what had happened earlier. I lay down, in order to get away from his stare. When I felt his eyes leave the back of my head, I turned around to find him looking the opposite direction, lying on his other side. I poked him again, and this time he lay on is back.

"Sirius, I'm sorry," I whispered in his ear.

He didn't seem to respond. This made me feel even worse about what I had done. He just lay there, thinking about God knows what. I turned back around, because I figured he was still a bit angry.

"I know," he finally whispered back. I turned back around, so I could see his face.

"I didn't do it on purpose."

"I know," he said again. He was still lying on his back, his arms behind up behind his head, but he was looking me straight in the eyes. He put his arm out, motioning for me to lie next to him, which I did.

"I know you're scared," he said softly. I froze. I mean, I knew he wasn't stupid enough to not figure out how I felt, but I didn't think he would say anything about it," and I don't want you to feel that way."

I sat up, giving him a confused look. I had never heard Sirius talk this way before, and it was just a bit scary. It may have been the fact that I was running on no sleep at five in the morning, but it all felt a little bit weird.

"Look, Kani," he said, sitting up as well," I know that you're scared that I don't want to be in this for more than a quick shag, which is not true. We've been friends forever, and you know me better than anyone, besides James. I would never treat you that way."

He was looking me directly in the eyes, which made me feel very nervous, and I think he could sense my nerves running on high. I didn't know how to respond. I mean, here he was, trying to make me feel better about this whole situation, and I didn't know what to do. I could feel my face getting clammy, and my throat closing, which made me wonder why, seeing as we've been friends forever. I was definitely not going to run, because it would make things even worse. But-

"You don't have to say anything, just promise you won't leave," he said with a small smile. The sun was peeking out in the window behind him, causing a small glow around him.

I gave him a small poke in the stomach and his smile grew. I shook my head and put my arms around him, the both of us slightly falling back onto his bed.

AN::/ I can't believe I actually updated! I've been thinking about this story for a while now, and where to go with it. I went back and read tons of good Sirius/OC stories and just got inspired to continue. Thanks for reading! Please review!
