Disclaimer: I don't owned Charmed or any of its characters. I also don't own Norton's Cafe. My aunt does. And it's not in San Francisco. But whatatever, basically all I own is Mercedes. Bobby owns himself, seeing as he's a real person who I know and love. Woo, go me! Damn, this is a long disclaimed. So here it is, ladies and gentlemen--another Queen Sammy Production. End.
Snitch: Actually, it's her first fic in a loooooong time...
Shut up! Anyways, this is my first Charmed fic, because I absolutely love Chris and his little quirks. So it's all about him! YAY!

Chapter One: The Search
“I too shall lie in the dust when I am dead, but now let me win noble renown."
-Homer
Phoebe pulled Piper to her feet, and Piper dusted herself off with an exasperated sigh. Suddenly Chris orbed into the living room next to them.
“We’ve got a problem,” he declared.
“Again?” Piper exclaimed. “The last problem we had ruined my favorite pair of pants!” She pointed at the pile of ash that used to be Verod, an upper level demon.
Chris gave her a look. “Yeah, well there are more important things at risk here than your pants.”
“Like what?” said Phoebe, taking a step forward.
“Like a girl,” Chris answered.
“Whose name is...?” Paige asked.
“I don’t know her name. All I know is she’s a witch, and a powerful one. She has some connection to you three, but the elders don’t know what it is. They said that the three of you need to get to her, because she’s on the line between good and evil, not exactly sure of which way to go.”
“So we have to get to her before the bounty hunters do.”
“And they’ve had a head start. She knows people are looking for her though. You have to get her to trust you first, convince her that you’re there to help her, not hurt her.”
“Where should we start?” Phoebe asked.
Chris shrugged. “I’m not sure. You could scry for her.”
“We need something of hers if we’re going to scry for her,” Paige said.
“I don’t know then.”
Phoebe sighed. “Chris, hello!” She knocked on his head, and right away, she got a premonition. Chris and a girl were sitting in an alley. She was curled up, leaning against a box, and he was sitting next to her, talking. Then it was over, and she turned to Paige and Piper. “I saw her. Tangerine Boulevard. An alley next to a restaurant called Norton’s Café.”
“I’ve been there,” said Paige. “Are we orbing into the alley?”
Phoebe nodded.
“Wait, why did you get that premonition when you touched me? Was I there?” Chris asked.
Phoebe just looked at him. Then she grabbed Paige’s hand, and Paige, Phoebe, and Piper disappeared in a glimmer of blue orbs of light.
Chris sighed and orbed out of the house.
“No one’s here,” Paige declared.
“Do you think she works in the restaurant?” Phoebe asked, nodding towards Norton’s Café.
“Maybe,” Paige replied. “What does she look like? I was just there a few weeks ago. I might remember her.”
“Like that,” Phoebe said, pointing behind her sisters. A blonde girl wearing a green shirt with Norton’s Café on the front and a pair of baggy khaki cargo pants had just walked out the side door of Norton’s and was dumping a garbage can out.
“Mercy!” someone called from inside. “Hurry up, you’ve got tables to clear.”
“Dammit,” the girl muttered. She set the garbage can down by the door and ran back inside.
“I saw her. She was here, in this alley. And she was with Chris.”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa. Chris? As in our Chris?” Piper demanded.
Phoebe nodded. “Yeah. Our Chris.”
“Well, it can’t have happened yet, or he would have known exactly who we were looking for,” said Paige.
Phoebe walked over to the garbage can and looked down at it. Maybe she could get a premonition by touching the garbage can. After all, the girl had just set it down. There had to be something on it.
“Um, can I help you?” a man asked leaning against the open doorway that the girl had just gone through.
Phoebe, who had just put both of her hands on the sides of the garbage can, smiled innocently. “Heh, yeah. I think I accidentally threw out my... ring. See, I took it off while I was eating and then it was gone. So I was just... going to look for it.” She straightened up, having gotten no premonition, and shrugged. “Sorry.”
“Well, do you remember who your server was? There’s a chance they turned it in.”
“Mercy,” Paige said, stepping forward. The man seemed to be surprised at first, but his face quickly returned to the calm it had been.
“Mercy was your server?” he asked, giving them a suspicious look.
Piper nodded, walking up next to Paige. “That’s right. Now could you please get her so we can find the ring?”
“Look, ladies, Mercy isn’t a server, so you must be mistaken.”
“Well, we know she was there. Can we just see her? I have a baby to get home to and my sister needs her ring back.” Piper glared at him until he caved.
The man sighed. “Fine. Wait here.” He turned and walked into the kitchen.
Paige looked over at Piper. “Why didn’t you just freeze him?” she demanded in a whisper. “You have no problem doing it at the doctor’s when people touch your belly.”
Piper didn’t have time to answer, because right then the blonde girl from before came into view, cautiously stepping towards the doorway. The man was gone, much to Phoebe’s disappointment. Hey, he was cute and this is Phoebe we’re talking about!
“Hey, Bobby said you’re looking for a ring. Sorry, but I don’t think I was anywhere near your table tonight. In fact, I don’t remember seeing you at all. Are you sure it was me and not Darcy or Amanda? I’m not even a server. You can try the hostess at the front of the restaurant. She’d probably know about a missing ring before any of us.” She turned to go back in, but Paige grabbed her arm. She was surprised when the girl turned, her eyes flashing a blazing red.
“Let go,” she growled.
“Mercy—”
“Mercedes. Only my friends call me Mercy. I have to go. I get off in five minutes and I have an eight o’clock audition. I’m not going to miss it on account of you, so if you’ll excuse me.” And with that, she was gone.
“Audition? For what?” Paige thought aloud.
“I don’t know, but she can’t be much older than seventeen. Hell, she doesn’t even look seventeen. She looks about fifteen!” Piper declared, shaking her head and turning to go.
“Yes she is and no she doesn’t,” Phoebe said, slowly turning to face her sisters. “She’s almost twenty, she looks about eighteen, and she’s going to be in huge trouble if she gets to that audition.” The joys of being an Empath.
“Find your ring yet?”
The girls all whirled around to find the man from before leaning against the doorway again. He raised his eyebrows at them, awaiting an answer.
Phoebe laughed nervously. “No, but I’m sure it’s around here somewhere.”
“Well, if you have any trouble finding it, I’m sure the hostess up front can help. She’ll probably hear about it before anyone else.”
“Yeah, so we’ve heard,” Paige muttered.
“You, shush,” Piper said, turning to Paige and holding up a finger, then turned to Phoebe in the same manner. “And you, stop flirting. We’ve got places to be.” She knew that if they didn’t catch Mercedes before she left, they’d never be able to find her. Plus, she was starting to night-sickness from being pregnant. This was just too weird for her.
“Piper!” Paige exclaimed, pointing to the entrance to the alley just in time for them to see Mercedes fly by on a skateboard.
“Great!” Piper exclaimed. “We lost her. Just perfect!”
“Lost who?” the man—Mercedes had called him Bobby—asked curiously.
“Uh... no one,” Phoebe said quickly. Nice recovery, stupid. He’s sure to lose his suspicion now. God! she thought angrily. “Well, we really have to go. Thanks for your help though.”
“No problem,” Bobby replied with a smile. “See ya around then.”
“Bye,” Phoebe said dreamily as her sisters dragged her away.
“Phoebe, focus!” Paige put a hand on each side of her sister’s face as soon as they were on the sidewalk again.
“Hmm?” Phoebe seemed to snap out of her dreamy trance, and her eyes locked with Paige’s. “Right. Focused. We have to find Mercedes.”
“It’s too late now,” Piper said, turning to them. “She’s gone. But we do know that she’s a witch. Chris said so, after all. Maybe we can summon her once we get home. Just orb us out of here.”
“Right now?” Paige asked, raising an eyebrow. They were only standing on an immensely crowded sidewalk.
Piper looked around. “Of course not right now!” She pulled her sisters back into the alley, and Paige quickly orbed the three of them back into the foyer of the manor.
“Chris!” Paige called as soon as they were on solid wood floor.
A swirl of blue orbs formed in front of them, finally becoming Chris. “What?”
“Don’t you snap at me, mister,” Paige said testily, holding up a finger at him.
Chris put his hands up and rolled his eyes. “So how’d it go? Where is she?”
“She ran off as soon as we tried to talk to her. But you said she’s a witch, right?” said Piper, heading for the stairs.
Chris nodded, following her. “Yeah. The elders said she’s a witch, but she’s new to her powers.”
“Well, we have to find her before anything bad happens.” Piper turned to her sisters, who were still in the foyer, halfway up the stairs. “Paige, try scrying for her while I look for the summoning spell. Phoebe, try to find any places that are having auditions for something tonight at eight.”
Phoebe and Paige both nodded and hurried off to do their jobs. Chris looked at Piper, raising his eyebrows.
“What should I do?” he asked her.
“You come with me,” Piper said. “You can help me look for the spell. How long till it’s eight?”
Chris shrugged. “I don’t know. It was around seven thirty when you left. So it’s probably about eight... quarter after eight right now.” He shrugged again. “You weren’t gone that long.”
Piper nodded and turned to Chris as they walked into the attic. “You check the book of shadows for the summoning spell. I’ll look around for all the stuff we need.” Of course she didn’t know the spell, but she knew exactly what she needed to make the spell work.
“Ugh,” she groaned, looking at her reflection. “I look like Death.” She shook her head and turned away from the mirror, stepping into the shower and letting the hot water roll down her body. She sang along with her CD as she washed her hair and body. Soon she was stepping back out onto the bathmat, drying off and then wrapping her bright yellow towel around her body. Then suddenly she got a funny feeling all over her body, her stomach twisted into knots, and she heard a large crash outside her bathroom door. Just as the handle of the bathroom door began to turn, Mercedes was swallowed up in a bright cream-colored swirl of light and mist, and then she was gone.
