Chapter 4 Yusuke's Fear
Kurama’s POV
Although I knew something was going on with Yusuke and Keiko, I wasn’t sure exactly what was going on.
I could feel Yusuke’s worry and regret, but Keiko’s emotions were harder to read, harder to feel. It was a mixture of confusion, pain and extreme sadness. As far as I knew Keiko had only been at the tournament for the first match, what could have happened during that short amount of time to cause them this trouble? The door to mine, Hiei’s and Yusuke’s room was locked, and I could sense the two love birds through the door, but I was too cautions, to knock, but Hiei was not as cautions.
“Open the door already!” he yelled from behind me. I sharply turned to ‘shh’ him, but a slight creak of the door opening stopped me.
“Guys, could you please be more quite Yusuke’s sound asleep. Don’t want to wake him.”
There in front of me stood Keiko, in nothing but a long shirt that looked like it was Yusuke’s. Her eyes were red and swollen but she acted as if nothing was wrong. I was suddenly happy that Botan and Kuwabara had left the hotel room to get some air; they seemed to be extremely disturbed by whatever had happened in the room before Hiei and I had even entered. The masked fighter was no where to be found and the three of us stood in silence for a few moments. Suddenly Hiei begins a conversation with me through his mind, and I’m forced to listen.
“What’s going on?”
“I’m not sure Hiei, but something is defiantly wrong with her, I can smell plenty of blood in the air, but it seems to me she is not only hurt physically but emotionally as well..."
Our thoughts were quickly interrupted though as Keiko turns to face us. I see her rub her face with shaky hands trying to hide her watering eyes. She takes a deep breath and slowly tries to regain her composer. Her voice though quiet and frail caught our attention more than her normal demanding voice. Maybe it was because we weren't used to her ever being seriously hurt, or maybe it was because we were nervous about what it was exactly that she was going to say. Either way Hiei and I listened intently as she continued.
"Guys... I . ... I know that this is your room too. But... “She faltered, and I was temped to take a step toward her as if to retrieve her words with my reassuring hands.
"But do you think, you guys could let Yusuke sleep a little more?" she squeaked, folding her hands in front of her as if she were acting completely normal and un-phased she walked to the sofa, and slowly took a seat. My reaction was slower than I thought it would be as I stared at the spot where she once stood, blinking a few times I realized Hiei was gone. Keiko finally noticed as well, as she stood quickly from her seat at the sofa, "Hiei wait.." her words were in vain, it was too late Hiei had already closed himself behind the bedroom door. Fearing the worst from Keiko I turned sharply only to see she was sitting on the sofa in the same position she was in only moments ago. I looked on at Keiko sadness filling my eyes, ‘What has happened.’
“Keiko…” the words slipped from my mouth, it was a ghost of a whisper and she never answered. As I turned to the door suddenly wishing Hiei was no where near the grief stricken boyfriend of this girl I now held in my arms.
Regular Point of View
The room was dark and Hiei could hear the young fighter’s soft breathing that echoed from the bed. He slowly walked over, his hands on his hips.
“Yusuke?” his voice was low, demanding and steady. Yusuke’s eyes fluttered open immediately at the sound of Hiei’s voice. Not answering at first he focused and sat up in the bed, focusing again then sighing in relief. ‘She’s with Kurama.’ He thought. As if Hiei could since his discomfort he said.
“The girl is fine.”
Yusuke nodded and lay back on the bed staring at the ceiling. Finally, Yusuke spoke as he moved his arms behind his head, “I guess you’re not going anywhere soon huh?”
Hiei glared, “Not until I know what’s going on.” He stated.
Yusuke, knowing this was coming took a deep breath, he and Keiko would need all the support they could get, but something about having to say this again and out loud didn’t settle well in his stomach.
“Well, thanks to Toguro this whole tournament just became personal.” He said closing his eyes as he took in his own words, and the situation yet again.
“The blood on Keiko?” Hiei’s suspicions must be confirmed as he asked another heart throbbing question.
“Hers.” That was all Hiei needed and he closed his eyes trying to suspect when and what had happened to Keiko.
“Toguro attacked her? Why not just kill the girl, why did he leave her alive?”
“What he did was far, far worse than death.” Yusuke whispered turning on his side to face away from Hiei. He didn’t want to see the realization form on his friends face. He didn’t want the disgusting word to have to come out of his mouth but he knew there was no way around it. Hiei’s eyes opened slightly wider as he listened carefully to Yusuke’s words. Yet, before Yusuke had a chance to tell Keiko’s story, Hiei spoke up.
“Urameshi?” He paused swallowing slightly, “Toguro took your girl didn’t he…” for once Hiei tried to use a soft voice, although it came out much more flat than he had expected. He sounded like he was reading the weather or something, and he almost regretted voicing himself when Yusuke interrupted.
“Yes, Hiei he took Keiko from me. He took her away from me in every way he could think of. Emotional, Mentally….” His voice trailed for a moment before he could continue to speak taking in a deep breath, “… and, Physically.” That was the time when Hiei decided he should leave, but he couldn’t turn, he found himself sitting down in the chair across from Yusuke sighing to himself.
“You better get Toguro soon.” He paused making sure Yusuke had heard him, “Because if you don’t I can’t guarantee he will still be there when you want to fight him, I might get to kill him first.” Hiei knew he had chosen the right words when a small chuckle floated throughout the room.
“Bull shit, the bastard is mine.”
Meanwhile in the lounge room, Kurama and Keiko sat on the couch, Keiko in tears, while Kurama rubbed her back, letting her soak his kimono and clench his arms. By then Kurama had realized the seriousness of the issue and pulled the sobbing girl closer. He could no longer take the silence as he lifted her chin to face him and bravely began the conversation he dreaded.
“Keiko… I can smell the blood all over you.” Her eyes widened and shock was apparent on her tear stained face. He could tell that she was unsure of what to say, so he took the liberty upon himself to help her.
“It’s your own blood right? Someone hurt you?” He said pulling her into a small hug hoping to ease her into a confession. Yet before Keiko could do anything, the door behind them opened and out walked Hiei and Yusuke, at seeing Yusuke, Keiko stood and walked to him clasping his hand and standing silently beside him.
“Keiko, go lay down. I need to talk to them ok?” he whispered, Keiko nodded, and walked back into the room closing the door behind her. Yusuke turned sharply to his friends, glaring out of being overprotective.
“Kurama, she was raped. There, now there is no reason to try and get it out of her, I told you, so just let her be okay.” Kurama nodded slowly and walked to the door exiting with Hiei, but Yusuke’s voice stopped them.
“We are still a team.” He said. Kurama and Hiei turned to face him, “We are still a team, and I am still the team leader, we are having a meeting. A freaking team meeting and I expect everyone to fucking be there, even Botan, Yukina, Shiziru, and for fuck’s sake find that damn masked fighter, be back in 3 hours.” At that Yusuke turned and walked straight back into the room he had left Keiko in only moments ago. Leaving the two fighters confused and saddened to leave the room on the lookout for their other team mates.
