He closed his eyes and sighed, once again seeing her angry face, her burning eyes. That one had hair to match the personality. He liked her, but she had left him no choice. He had decided long ago that the only way to defend against scorn was to return it. A breeze ruffled his shaggy hair, and irritated, he flicked a stray strand out of the way.
Once again his eyes drifted to the crawling city. He would not be like them. He would not.
