Catherine walked down the hallway. She had something on her mind that she needed to get off her chest. It shocked her that it took her 10 years to realize that she felt Grissom was more then just a friend to her. It had hit around 8 months ago, after the team spilt up that she noticed that she was there mostly because of him. Now it was only a matter if she could handle and other relationship after what that freak, Adam, did. Gil wasn’t like that thou. And she knew it. He was always there for her and always helped her. It truly was only the matter if she was brave enough to ask him. She was scared to lose their already broken friendship.
I was gunna make my play
But just like yesterday my mind erased
And I let the moment slip away
She walked up to the office door. As she was about to knock, She stopped. She stepped backwards and was about to turn and walk away and wait till tomorrow when the door opened and Grissom walked out. "Why hello there Catherine." He said to his friend.
"Hey, Grissom... Have a nice night...Day." Catherine smiled and walked down the hall. "I had him! I should've asked!" Catherine yelled to herself in her head.
"Yeah...You too, Cath." He said walking the opposite way.
Catherine bit her bottom lip as the cold early morning's air hit her face. She let out a tiny gasp as a sharp pain ripped through her side. She looked down and saw nothing. Just as it came it went. Gilt pain.
Another night got me sitting here all on my own
Picking up the phone but I cant get past the dial tone
By the time she got home, Lindsay had left for school and her mother had left to go back to her house. She pulled on her Pajamas and curled up on her bed. She lay awake thinking of his face and how stupid she was not taking the chance. For 2 hours. Catherine sat up and reached for the phone. With out looking she pressed the on button. She just let the dial ring in till she starting to press in his phone number. It rang 2 times before she hung up. She cursed at herself and placed the phone back. Catherine laid back down and went back into her sleepless sleep.
Racking my brain, going insane, then and again
I can’t keep going this way
Minutes later, Catherine got up and walked to the mirror in her bathroom. She had big black bags under her eyes and she looked sad. "God, I'm a mess!" Catherine thought as she turned the tap to the shower on. She stripped down to nothing and jumped in. She made a yelp as the freezing water hit her skin. "Damnit!" She mumbled as she turned on the hot water. The warm water heated her up. She just stood there, letting the water clean her mind. "Tonight," She said, "is the night when I finally tell him. The night I stop acting this way." Catherine sighed and grabbed her shampoo. She lathered it into her hair. "He always liked the smell of my shampoo... SHUT UP!" She yelled in her head again. It had been like this for weeks. She always thought about how he always liked this or that or whatever about her. "I'm going insane!" Catherine whispered to herself as she rinsed her hair.
Crushed
By the sweetest lips I've never kissed
And your fingertips are the warmest touch that I’ve always missed
By the time she got out of the shower it was an hour before she had to pick up Lindsay from school. Catherine wrapped her towel around herself and walked across the hall to her bedroom. She then walked into her walk in closet and picked out a pair of light blue jeans and a red tank top. She quickly put on the clothes and walked down stairs. Her hair was wrapped in a small towel to keep from dripping. Catherine walked into her kitchen to grab something to eat. Looking in her cupboards she found nothing good. She took a deep breath, and then it happened again. Her mind was again overwhelmed with him and those lips. His lips she had almost kissed. "Arg!" Catherine muttered pulling the towel off her head and leaving it in a pile on the floor. Standing up she looked at the clock. It was time to pick up Lindsay. She pulled on a pair of runners and her coat. She grabbed her keys and scrambled out the door.
Crushed
By the softest hands I’ve never held
Probably never tell, you’re the strongest love that I’ve ever felt
As Catherine dove down to butterfield academe, she thought of Grissom. No matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't stop. Just like that the memory of the time he was going in for his hearing surgery. They had hugged. That was about the only time the truly ever hugged like that. And the time he took her hand to slip the dead woman's hand on her's. Catherine let out a small chuckle. Typical Grissom. Her mind was racing about all the good times they shared that when the light turned green she didn't go in till a honk from the car behind her woke her up. Catherine sighed and turned on the radio to try and block out the thoughts of Grissom. The sweet sound of music filled the car accompanied by a woman's voice singing, " crushed
That I haven’t ever let you know, how it always goes... cause I lose my nerve whenever you get close and so I'm left short of breath, with that heavy feeling in my chest..." Catherine quickly turned the radio off. "God, I get your point!" She breathed, turning into the student pickup area. She stopped near the stairs and cut off her engine to wait for her daughter.
Baby I’m so crushed
Lindsay appeared with a group of her friends. She noticed her mother's car waiting for her and waved good-bye to her friends as she ran down the steps towards the car. Catherine smiled to her daughter as she got in the passenger side of the Tahoe. "Hey sweetie! How was your day?" Catherine asked Lindsay.
"Boring...Like always. How was yours?" Lindsay answered.
"Sleepless, and Crushed" Catherine looked at her daughter then started the car and dove back home.
So I tell myself that tomorrows gunna be the day
And I keep on telling myself that I’m gunna find a way
And I wont be afraid, just like yesterday
Wont walk away, never gunna let another chance slip away
Catherine walked down the halls of the labs, looking for Grissom. So far her day was ok. She spent some time with her daughter, and got her mind off of Grissom for a while. She was lucky it was a slow night and she only had to do paperwork. Now she found herself in the position she was yesterday. Face to face with Gil's office door. "Knock! Tell him you have feelings for him!" Her inner voice yelled. She listened. Catherine raised her hand and knocked lightly on his door. She heard him call,” Come in!" Catherine opened the door and walked in. Grissom sat behind his desk doing case reviews. "Hey Catherine. Since when do you wait for an answer to enter my office?" He greeted.
"I need to tell you some thing..." She rambled, shutting his door.
Cause I gotta know whichever way its gunna go
Rest my heart and soul; cause there can never be no more
Racking my brain, going insane, then and again
I can’t keep going this way
Grissom looked up, taking off his glasses and putting his hands together on his desk. "Yes?"
"Have you ever loved some one that you don't know loves you back and every day you think of them and you can't get them out of your head?" Grissom nodded and watched her pace around his office. "But you where too scared to ever tell them because you think they are going to hurt you?"
"Yes, Catherine, I have" Grissom said looking into her bight blue eyes. Her expression was a mix of sacredness and happiness. "And truth be told I still am scared to tell her." Catherine walked closer to him.
"Really?" She whispered looking deep in his eyes.
"Really." Grissom stood up and headed towards her. Their eyes never letting go.
"Crushed, by the sweetest lips I’ve never kissed and your fingertips are the warmest touch that I’ve always missed. Crushed by the softest hands I’ve never held probably never tell, you’re the strongest love that I’ve ever felt. Crushed that I haven’t ever let you know how it always goes. Cause I lose my nerve whenever you get close and so I’m left. Short of breath, with that heavy feeling in my chest baby I’m so crushed" Catherine sang softly. Hoping if she sang it wouldn't be that hard. Which helped her a lot.
"Catherine..." Grissom said with their mouths millimeters apart. "I love you..." A smile crept across her face.
"Gil, I love you too..." She whispered as his lips crashed on hers. It started soft then with the more passion it became hard. As they pulled apart, lungs screaming for air, Gil took Catherine's hand and asked her,
"Would you like to come over to my house for dinner tonight?"
"I'd love to."
It was at that moment that that feeling in Catherine's heart and chest was lifted.
