Chapter One:

Where Is He?

'Where is he?', asked a young boy, about the age of five. He wore a baggy T-shirt, loose pants, and was barefoot. He was soaked in dirt and mud, that it wasn't funny. He was in a store, mall if you perfer, and was being mocked. He had to hold back his tears, as he marched through the shopping center. 'Where is he?', he asked again to himself.

Then, he found him...Santa Claus. 'I'm sure that he will help me. I just know it!', he thought happily to himself, limping the best he could. Each step hurt, but he knew that Santa could help with his dillema.

The man dressed as 'Santa', was none other than Ryo. His 'assistant' was Yugi, who was dressed as an elf. Yugi would guide the children up the platform to Ryo. Then, they would explain what they wanted for Christmas.

"I just can't believe it! Only one more day until Christmas!", squealed Yugi happily.

"Tell me about it! At first, you think, 'I wish that it was a Holiday...', then, BOOM, it's here!", replied Ryo.

"I'm just glad that we didn't recieve any homework for the break!", answered Yugi.

"Yeah, I know! Hey, what are you and Yami gonna do during Christmas?", asked Ryo.

"Oh, we're just gonna go to the thearters, drive around, and FEAST!" Ryo laughed at Yugi's plans.

"Bakura and I are gonna go ice-fishing. Then, we are gonna just do random things...knowing Bakura."

"Yeah...Bakura can be very predictable...sometimes..."

"True..."

--

'Oh, I can't wait! Santa's so close!' The boy then yawned. It was late.

"THE STORE IS NOW CLOSING. PLEASE, IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS ABOUT YOUR GIFTS THAT YOU HAVE BOUGHT OR RECIEVED, WE CAN HELP YOU. GOOD NIGHT, AND MERRY CHIRSTMAS!", blurted the speakers.

'No! It can't close now! I need to see Santa! I need to!' Once the crowds had left, the child limped over to the Santa chair, as 'Santa' and his 'helper' prepared for the holidays. "Umm...excuse me?"

"Hmm?", asked Ryo, turning around to see the poor, young child. "It's time to go."

"But...I need something special. Could you listen to me?" Ryo sighed before responding. He really wanted to leave.

"Sure." Yugi then lifted the thin child onto 'Santa's' lap. "So, what is your name?"

"M-Malik, sir...", answered the child shyly.

"Malik, huh? That's a fine name." The child slightly smiled. "So, what do you want for Christmas?"

"I...uh..." The child blushed, looking down at the floor.

"Don't be shy. Go on, tell me."

"I...I want you to cure my disability..." Ryo's and Yugi's eyes saddened. "You see..." The child sighed sadly. "My...mom and dad...they sort of...uh...abandoned me onto the street, because I can't walk right." The child got up, and started walk around, limping. His feet were disfigured. Instead of hisfeet pointing forward, they pointed from side to side. The child sighed again. "I know that it is alot to ask...but..." The child started sobbing heavily. "I...I just want to be normal. And...I want mommy and daddy to take me back home...I'm so cold and hungery. Could you give me this one Christmas wish?" Ryo embraced the child, tears streaming.

"Yes...I will try...just hold on, okay?"

"Okay! I have been a very good boy this year, just to make sure! I haven't stolen or anything! I even helped people!" The child then kissed 'Santa's' cheek, the small smile growing bigger. "Thank you, Santa!"

The small child then leaped out of 'Santa's' lap, and rushed to the escalator. Once he was got close, he froze. He didn't like to ride escalators. They frightened him, and also brought back horrible memories.

Memories of pain, memories of hatred, memories of humilaty...were all coming back to him, as he stared at the moving steps.

--

"That poor child...", Yugi sighed sadly, as the two undressed from their uniforms.

"Yeah...", Ryo replied, shading his eyes.

"All this child ever wanted was a home...a family...a cure to the ache in his heart..."

"Yeah..."

"I always thought that everyone in the world was foolish and greedy...but, he is another story..."

"Yeah..."

"He cares for people...doesn't steal...is honest...trustworthy...sweet..."

"Yeah..."

"I just don't get it..."

"Yeah..."

"Who would abandon such a sweet child? What could he have possibly ever done? Why would they do this just because his feet are disfigured?"

"Just, shuddup Yugi!", snapped Ryo. Yugi was going to yell back, until he saw a tear roll down Ryo's face. "You always push things too far! I understand what is going on! You don't need to keep ranting on about it!"

"...I'm sorry, Ryo...", apoligized Yugi, looking down. This brought memories to Ryo as well...

--

"Uhnn...", moaned the boy, trembling. Many memories flashed through his head at the sight of the escalator.

"Hey, do you need any help?" The child rapidly turned around to see a tri-colored, spikey haired boy. The child nodded. A smile crossed Yugi's face. "Alrighty...can you take my hand?" The child nodded, and did so.

Once they reached the bottom floor, the child recoiled his hand, and look shameful.

"What's wrong?", asked Yugi, confuzed.

"I-I was a bad boy..."

"No...what did you do wrong?"

"I...I wasted your time...when you should be home by now...it's Christmas Eve and all...anyway...I am truly sorry..." The child started to sob.

"No,no. It's alright. Really.", replied Yugi, sweatdropping. "I was going down here anyway. Why did you stop there anyway?"

The child thought for a moment, before responding.

"I-I'm scared of the escalator..."

"Why? What's so scary about it?", asked Yugi, cocking his head. Malik sobbed hard into Yugi's shirt. Just remembering the incident hurt... "Shhhh...don't cry...I won't ask anymore questions, okay?" The boy nodded. "Okay...go on home now...alright?"

"Okay..."

"That's a good boy.", replied Yugi, patting the boy on the head. The child smiled slightly, a tear rolling down his face.

Awww...okay...I am not picking on Malik, I'll have you know! I just think that it would make a great story, if he was the main character.
