Disclaimer: I don't own FFX2 characters...
Author's Note:
This is like Chapter 1 of the game so you should expect that some characters have never met other characters before. But even if some parts are similar to the game, the storyline of this fanfic has nothing to do with it. Well, this story's basically about Rikku & Baralai and Paine & Gippal, so don't expect much of Yuna or any other characters...
I'm sorry if the Al Bhed parts are a bit confusing, but just so you know, I put the translations after each line or sentence. I hope that makes it a lot easier to understand. And some parts might have bad grammar, so please forgive me for that… Well, hope you like this fanfic…
"Found it!" said Yuna as she reached for a red sphere on a raised platform.
"Alright! One more for the Gullwings!" shouted Rikku, throwing a fist into the air.
"Got the sphere, let's go already," said Paine wearily.
The three girls walked out of the hidden cave in the Thunder Plains. Mission complete! Yuna, Rikku and Paine walked back to Rin's travel agency and found Cid outside.
"Hey pops!" said Rikku cheerfully.
"Hi, Uncle Cid," said Yuna.
"Rikku! Yuna! Good thing you're here. Gippal needs some help over at Djose Temple, so whenever you have free time, just make a quick stop over there," said Cid without hesitation.
Yuna looked at her cousin with a confused expression on her face.
"Um…okay…" she replied hesitantly.
"Thanks Yuna," said Cid, and with that, he turned and went inside Rin's travel agency.
As soon as he was gone, Yuna turned to her Al Bhed cousin.
"Rikku, who's Gippal?" she asked, trying to remember someone with that certain name.
"Uh…we'll meet him soon…he's the leader of the Machine Faction," explained Rikku.
He's quite annoying though. she thought.
Paine just stood behind them silently. She couldn't tell them about the Crimson Squad or anything about her past relationships with Gippal, Baralai, and Nooj, so she just kept quiet about it.
"Yuna! Are you okay?" asked Brother.
"Yeah I'm fine," replied Yuna.
"Dryhgc vun lynehk, Pnudran!" shouted Rikku as she stuck out her tongue at him.
(Thanks for caring, Brother!)
Yuna walked to Shinra at the computer.
"Here, this was what we found in the cave," she said as she gave a sphere to him.
The boy genius took it and started to analyze the red orb.
"I hope it's something useful," said Yuna. Suddenly, she thought of Tidus and a sense of sorrow filled her.
"Don't worry Yunie! If this isn't what we're searching for, there are more spheres all over Spira, right?" Rikku cheered her up.
"Thanks Rikku," said Yuna, smiling at her cousin.
"Yuna, where are we heading next?" asked Brother all of a sudden.
"Um…I don't know…Rikku?" asked Yuna.
"Djose Temple," said Rikku to her brother in an annoyed way.
"Next stop, Djose Temple!" shouted Brother, and he jumped back into his seat.
After a while, Shinra stopped typing and turned around.
"Analysis complete. Wanna watch this sphere?" he asked.
"Sure," said Yuna.
Rikku and her cousin turned their heads to the screen.
Back on the Celsius, Yuna and Rikku were stunned at the sphere they just saw.
"Is there more to it?" asked Rikku with utmost curiosity.
"Don't think so," replied Shinra.
"There's something about the sphere…" said Yuna to herself. "…Something strange, but…"
"You can come and watch it again later. I might have more information about it by then," suggested Shinra.
Yuna and Rikku turned away from Shinra, still wondering about the strange sphere.
"Hey, wait a second, where's Paine?" asked Yuna who just realized that their friend isn't there with them.
"Oh yeah…she's in the Cabin, stocking up in the Gullstore," said Rikku. "I guess we kinda forgot about her…"
"Well, she come and watch the sphere anytime," said Yuna.
The two girls took the elevator to the Cabin and found Paine sitting on her bed upstairs.
"There you are," said Rikku with her hands on her waist. "You missed the movie sphere."
"Will I benefit from watching it?" she asked coolly.
"Hmmm…maybe…" said Rikku.
"It was…strange," said Yuna, watching the sphere again in her head.
"Please be more specific," said Paine sarcastically, resting her head on her hand and looking up at Yuna.
"See, there was this ––––" started Rikku.
Then suddenly, there was a red flash.
"This is your pilot speaking. We have arrived at our destination, Djose Temple," said a voice with a strange accent over the intercom. Then they heard someone laughing.
"Sorry girls," apologized Buddy over the intercom. "I was getting kinda bored."
Yuna and Rikku laughed and Paine raised an eyebrow.
"Hey Cid's girl, what are you doin' down here?" asked the man as the girls entered.
"Ugh, not again…" said Rikku exasperatedly. "Yuna…this is Gippal."
"Lady Yuna? What's a high summoner like you doin' here?" asked Gippal looking closely at Yuna with his hands on his waist.
"It's former high summoner," corrected Yuna, backing away.
"Well, same thing," he said nonchalantly. Then his eye caught sight of the person standing behind them.
"So, who's your friend?" asked Gippal, with a nod at Paine.
Paine, who had her back facing Gippal all this time, turned around to look at him.
"You!" shouted Gippal with his eye widened, pointing a finger at her.
Rikku tilted her head and stared at them with confusion. "Hey, you two know each other?"
"I'm Paine, nice to meet you," she said, ignoring Rikku and staring hard at Gippal.
"…Uh…right…" he replied hesitantly.
Why is she acting as if she doesn't know me? he thought.
Seeing the hurt look on his face made a knot in Paine's throat.
"So you guys…haven't met each other before?" asked Rikku, clueless.
"No," said Paine quickly, her eyes still on Gippal.
I'm sorry Gippal, but I can't blow our cover. she thought.
"Uh…so…what are you girls doing down here?" asked Gippal trying to look away from Paine.
He decided that he should put the thoughts of the Crimson Squad to the back of his head.
"Pops told us to come down here. He said you needed some help," replied Rikku.
"Me? Help? Maybe he got confused with me and some other guy. I'm the last person who'd want help from a bunch of girls," he said coolly.
"Hey!" said Yuna, offended.
"Girls can do things way better than guys can," argued Rikku.
So, he hasn't changed a bit. What a jerk. thought Paine as she smiled inwardly.
"Okay, okay, calm down. Jeez," said Gippal running his hand through his spiky blonde hair. "So, want anything from me or what?"
"Nope," replied Rikku instantly. "Come on, let's go."
Loser! she thought to herself.
Yuna and Rikku turned and started towards the door. Taking a final glance at Gippal, Paine turned and followed hesitantly.
"Wait," said Gippal suddenly, stepping forward.
The three girls stopped and turned around.
"I just remembered," said Gippal as he took out an envelope from his pocket. "Give this to the Praetor of New Yevon for me, will you?"
Gippal walked to Paine and gave it to her. Yuna and Rikku watched as Paine took it and kept it.
"Let's go," said Paine finally.
After staring at the warrior for a few seconds, Yuna and Rikku turned around and continued to the door. Gippal looked at Paine and gave her a short nod. After nodding back, Paine turned and followed Yuna and Rikku through the door.
On the Celsius, Yuna and Rikku were curious about Paine and Gippal's reactions when they saw each other.
"Are you sure you two don't know each other?" asked Rikku suspiciously.
"I'm sure, Rikku," said Paine coldly.
"But how can you be so sure?" asked Rikku, unwilling to give up.
"45," said Paine crossing her arms.
"Oh no!" shouted Rikku as she covered her mouth with her hands. Yuna walked to her Al Bhed cousin and patted her back to comfort her. Rikku is gonna have to be more careful in asking questions!
Very quick beginning, huh? Kind of shocking once you think about it. Well, be patient with the two pairings cuz it's gonna take time in getting them together, especially Rikku and Baralai.(you get what I mean?) Well...please continue reading! (I'll try to update soon...)
