Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic:

The Rise of Darth Revan

All right, so we’ve all played KOTOR or at least know of it. We all know that somehow, and somewhere, the character we’ve all come to love starts as a fallen Dark Lord of the Sith. This is, in the least, my take on Revan’s rise as Dark Lord of the Sith, beginning with the Knighting of Malak and him. I hope you all enjoy…

Prologue

They stood side by side, as the Council filled the modest chambers in the city planet of Coruscant. This was to be the most important day of their lives: they were to be Knighted as official Guardians of peace and justice throughout the Galaxy. No longer mere Apprentices, these two would go forth into the Galaxy, helping those in need and delivering justice into those that would prey on the weak and innocent. They stood, as the beacon of Light, the greatest examples in the history of the Jedi Order, completely incorruptible and to think otherwise was folly. There were no limits to how far these two would go and from here on; the Galaxy would forever remember the names of Revan and Malak.

Inseparable brothers, they had been called and would be called for all time. They knew of no jealousy, knew of no malice or ill will towards one another. They loved each other, as pure as the snow in the icy planet of Hoth. They defined the very meaning of brotherhood, and that was what would make their fall all the more tragic as they stood there in the Council Chambers of the Grand Jedi Council. The brightest pupils always were destined for greatness—even when that meant becoming the Galaxy’s most feared tyrant since Exar Kun.

They stood there, smiling, as Malak, clad in his noble and modest crimson and orange robes kneeled in front of the head of the Council, as the green skinned, diminutive Master Vandar ignited his green lightsaber and carried it from one shoulder to the next, as he said, “I dub thee, Malak, a Knight in the Jedi Order.”

And then it was his turn, the protégé and golden child of the Jedi Order. He stood there, tall and lanky, clad in grey robes as he knelt in front of Vandar, his pale skin and bald head accentuating his sharp, hawk-like features. Unlike his other, golden-skinned brother, he had no adorned dark tattoos on his head.

“And I dub thee, Revan, a Knight in the Jedi Order.”

He nodded gratefully as he rose, taking in a deep breath as Vandar extended a small three-fingered hand, pointing towards the door that led out of the Council Chambers.

“May you go out and find your destiny, as Knights of the Republic.”
