Everyday Teenage Insanity

Chapter One – Mental as always

So… are you okay?” he asked, brushing the girl’s face softly in his hand.

She smiled and nodded. “I’ll be fine. I respect your decision,” she replied, giving him a small smile. He smiled a little bigger than she had and hugged her to him. “I’m glad,” he said. The girl smiled and restrained from weeping into the boy’s arms around her.

She gave him one last peck on the cheek and turned away from him, brushing a tear away from her cheek. He, on the other hand, was vaguely aware that the girl had started crying the moment she went out his door.

“Why in the bloody hell did you break up with my sister, Harry!” Ron Weasley exclaimed in an angry tone, surprising Harry Potter out of his bed.

“Where the hell did you hear that from?” he asked, facing his rather (obviously) angry redheaded best friend who was accompanied by the other two angry Weasley brothers, Fred and George.

“Oh, don’t act daft, Harry! We just so Ginny in tears down there… why did you break up with her?” they screamed in unison. Harry took a step back.

“But she took it well! I think she even thought it was for the best,” he reasoned, trying to tone down his voice. “And you two shouldn’t even be here!” he added, pointing at the Weasley twins accusingly.

Ron, Fred and George shook their heads in frustration and sighed.

“Women act differently from what they say! Ginny may act like a boy sometimes”—“Yes, yes, whatever! But what are you two doing—hrrmph!” Harry exclaimed before Ron covered his mouth so that he would listen to what Fred was saying—“but she’s still a girl! She’s probably crying her eyes out, our poor sister,” Fred explained, shaking his head. George nodded in agreement while Ron took a seat on his bed.

“But I—well, I have reasons to break up with her,” Harry (finally free from Ron’s grasp) argued, slumping down onto his bed. Ron raised an eyebrow. “Oh yeah, what then?” he challenged. The twins and him looked at Harry expectantly.

Like I’m going to say anything, Harry thought, giving the other boys a look of exasperation.

Fred and George sat next to Harry and clapped him on the shoulder. “It’s alright if you ended your relationship with Ginny, but why? That’s what we’d like to know,” they said calmly in unison.

Harry looked at them and shook his head. “I can’t tell you lot right now, okay? Soon, when everything’s normal,” he said, scratching the back of his head in embarrassment.

Fred and George looked at each other in amusement.

Harry eyed them suspiciously. “What?” he asked, his brow creasing in concern.

Ron laughed sarcastically. “When has your life ever been normal, Harry? Every year someone psychotic or someone equally insane is out to kill you. It’ll be a miracle if someone evil faces you and not feel the need to reach over to his wand and scream, ‘Avada Kedavra’!” he told him, shaking his head warily.

Harry gave him an annoyed look.

“Thanks a lot, Ron.”

“Anytime, Harry.”

“Alright, what in the world possessed you to break up with Ginny, Harry?” Hermione asked the next day at the Great Hall over breakfast. She slammed her thick, leather-bound books onto the table that most of the other students at the table jumped in surprise.

Ron looked up, unfazed, from his plate and he and Harry gave Hermione a tired look.

“You heard about that too?” Harry asked, easily taking a gulp of orange juice.

“Of course! The whole girls’ dormitory knows about it especially since Ginny was crying her eyes out last night!” Hermione hissed, slapping her hand onto the table.

Ron scratched his head. “Seriously, Hermione, I’m trying to eat here.”

She threw Ron an angry look. “How can you be thinking about food at a time like this? Your sister just had her heart broken over your best friend and all you can think about are waffles!” she argued incredulously.

“Well, Ms. Granger, have you ever thought that maybe, just maybe Harry may have a good reason—which I know that he has—for breaking up with Ginny? Because if he has a reason, we should let him be! It’s not our choice but Harry’s!” Ron retorted causing Hermione to look at him in utter shock and confusion.

“Then what is his reason! I can’t think of any other good reason for him to just break it off with Ginny! She’s perfect for him. She’s smart, funny, athletic and beautiful. What more could Harry want?” she exclaimed, slapping her hand on the table over and over again. The other students had now started to look over to them in curiosity as to why Hermione Granger was acting hysterical.

“And another thing, why should he break up with Ginny when he had been so happy in her presence? We’ve seen them together; they couldn’t take their hands off of each other, much like you and Lavender, Ronald and now this! I honestly can’t see how anyone can let of such a great relationship like that! I may not be as experienced as some of the other girls but I do know what I want in a relationship. I want someone who can keep up with me and not start a fight; someone who would be my hero; someone who wouldn’t make me lose my temper over petty things. Harry and Ginny had so much chemistry! How can they just leave it like yesterday’s garbage, Ronald? I cannot understand the way you boys think. Honestly, I think you’ve all—”

HERMIONE JANE GRANGER!”

Hermione stopped short in the middle of her rant and looked over at Harry who had just screamed her full name and banged his goblet on the table rather loudly.

“Can’t you, just for one second, stop talking!” he cried, staring into her eyes. Hermione frowned and looked at him helplessly.

“I just… don’t see why you could just let go of Ginny so easily, Harry. I didn’t mean any harm…” she explained, looking down at her hands, which were on her books. Harry felt his anger subside and he sighed.

Harry reached over and held one of her hands, squeezing it softly.

“I really don’t want to talk about that, ‘Mione. Can’t we just leave it?” Harry pleaded, scooping a spoonful of cereal. He looked at her and she looked right back at him, her cheeks oddly pink for some unknown reason.

Hermione opened her mouth to say something.

“But—you—Ginny—stupid—Oh!” She stood up from her seat; removed Harry’s hand on her hand and left without another word.

Harry and Ron stared after her in confusion. “Mental as always,” Ron commented as he took another bite from his breakfast. Harry nodded and glanced at the entrance before going back to his breakfast.

She’s acting very strange about this, he told himself. He took a gulp from his goblet and pondered about what Hermione just did.

AUTHOR’S NOTE: I love it when Hermione’s hysterical for no good reason. She can talk endlessly without breaking a sweat. :)

Um, yeah, go on and review, my dears! More where this came from!
