Sara Sidle stepped into her Denali. She was still very shaken up by psychotic suspect she, Nick and Brass had apprehended. Her mind kept reeling back to the events in the station-house…

A Jane Doe of only about 21 years old had been found in the desert. Nick and Sara had gotten the call and began their investigations. All had gone well; Nick had found a pristine hair belonging to the suspect, Derrick Morales. When Brass brought him into the station, Sara had begun to interrogate him.

Then, without any warning, Mr. Morales had sprung out of his seat with a razorblade in his hand; he had hidden it in his mouth. Sara had leapt backwards, tripping over her seat and falling to the hard, cool floor. The uniformed officer, Harrison, took out his gun and threatened to fire, but Morales did not heed him. He whipped his razor at Sara’s face, cutting her cheek quite deeply. Harrison fired, and Morales fell dead upon Sara’s shocked form. His blood seeped everywhere.

Sara felt hot, salty tears at the corners of her eyes. She wiped them away quickly, her small hand brushing against the rough stitches that Dr. Robbins had put in her cheek. Her thoughts turned to Nick, who, hearing the shots, had rushed to her aid. Then he had carried her down to Autopsy. His arms had wrapped around her with a paradoxical strong gentleness. Then he disappeared. Sara had hoped he would bring her home too, but…

“He has more important things to do,” Sara murmured to herself. She stepped into the car and turned it on. Instantly the CD she had been listening to came to life. Ryan Cabrera’s Fall Baby Fall played softly through the speakers.

If you just have faith
To let me be the man that I am
I'll always run back
To show you what words never can

I don't want to be the one
Just to love then lose

Let ‘em fall baby fall
Just like the rain washes it all
If the tears will help you to heal
All that is real
All that is wrong
Let ‘em fall baby fall

More tears trickled down her face, but Sara didn’t even notice. The desire to be held was burning like wildfire in her heart.

If you'll trust that I'm gonna stay true
Even when I'm gone
You don't have to worry
'Cause I'll always be the man that you want

And I don't want to be the one
Just to love then lose

Driving back to her small apartment, Sara could not keep her mind off of Nick Stokes. She recalled his horrible nightmare in the glass coffin; though he had experienced it, she had dreamed about it for weeks afterwards. She could hardly look at his boyish face and hear his Texan accent without thinking about how she had almost lost him.

Let 'em fall baby fall
Just like the rain washes it all
If the tears will help you to heal
All that is real
All that is wrong

As your world spins around
Feet never touch the ground
Always hurting inside
Hiding behind the sun
Waiting still for the love
But it all seems so right

You know what you need to do

If the tears will help to heal your heal your heart

By all means, let 'em fall, let 'em fall, just let 'em fall

Sara got to her apartment without much incident. To her shock, Nick was standing outside her door.

“Nicky?” She questioned, stepping out of the Denali without turning it off. Fall Baby Fall was playing again. “What are you doing here?”

“I-I was worried about you,” he said quietly, moving towards her. “I wanted to make sure you were okay.” He held out his hand. In it was a single white rose. “And I wanted to apologize,” he added. “I should’ve been there with you.”

“It’s okay, Nick. You were there,” Sara replied, but tears were beginning to overwhelm her. All of the fear, everything she had been feeling for the past 5 months was threatening to come to the surface.

“No,” he said vehemently. “You’ve been there for me always, and what did I do? Run. I ran away when you needed me.” His eyes were moist and glistening. “But I won’t do that anymore. I wanna be here for you.”

Sara did not say anything, but simply threw her arms around his neck and gave him a soft kiss on the cheek. “And I’ll be there for you,” she whispered gently. “You can let them fall, Nicky. It’s okay to let the tears fall.”

And Nick cried in her driveway. Sara joined in without any hesitation. The Denali still played Ryan Cabrera.

Fall
Just like the rain washes it all
If the tears will help you to heal
All that is real
All that is wrong
Let 'em fall baby fall

Just like the rain washes it all
If the tears will help you to heal
All that is real
All that is wrong
Let ‘em fall baby fall...
