After her fathers death she realised he was right all along. She still could have everything she really wanted. It was ironic really that he was the one who was there for her during the whole ordeal; granted Daniel and Teal'c were elsewhere in the galaxy but maybe that was the part about cosmic significance or something. Somehow though she couldn't figure out how her legs had brought her here. Actually she did know, at least the motivation behind them anyway. A single word that had spoken volumes about the man whose mouth it had came from…."always".

She hadn't lied when she'd told him that she was fine about her fathers death. The last few years really had brought them closer than ever before, but in some ways that just made it harder to let go. She couldn't do that alone, so she knocked.

"Come in Carter"

She entered and took a seat on the other side of General Jack O'Neill's desk.

"How did you?" He shrugged.

"Everyone has a knock!"

She smiled briefly and looked down at her hands. To Jack she looked lost and distant, an attribute she rarely showed. Since she had just lost her dad he figured that she had a right to be that way. So he let her be, they sat in silence for a few minutes. Then she spoke.

"What you said the other day, about being here for me…"

"Anything" He stopped her before she finished. She smiled again.

"I just need to talk to someone"

Then she stopped talking again and again he let her, instead he took the time to study her face and body language. Her features were soft. It was nice to know that she could sit in front of his desk and still feel relaxed. Not feel the need to sit up straight and constantly salute him or something. Then it happened tears started to form in her eyes, before any could fall he was out of his seat and on the other side of the desk, enveloping her in his arms.

He stood there trying to comfort her until the tears subsided. When they did she spoke in a muffled voice directly into his shoulder.

"One of the last things my dad said to me….it got to me….and I couldn't help thinking he was right" She laughed a little. "Kind of ironic considering what he said to you on Cronus' ship"

Jack put on his best Jacob Carter is mocking you voice and mimicked.

"What and blow the last chance I might have to be right?" She laughed at him for that.

"That's the one" They still hadn't moved out of each others embrace.

"So what did he say?"

"What?"

"What was your dad so right about?"

"He said….He told me, I could still have everything I want."

"What do you want?"

She looked up then, and straight into his deep brown eyes which were already staring straight back at her. Her answer was simple.

"You"

He didn't need anything more than that. His face moved the few extra inches needed to claim her lips. She responded immediately her hands moving underneath his T-Shirt to touch the smooth muscles on his back, her other hand finding it's way to his neck and into his hair.

Finally relishing the feeling of freedom, of being able to touch him in the way that she wanted. Definitely what she always wanted.
