Disclaimer: I don’t own the characters. Square Enix does.
Warnings: Playful bashings / abuse of every character. Shonen-ai. Slightly more serious but still playful…
konekomh's ramblings: Whao… it’s been long since the last update… (kitty duck behind couch to avoid flying tomatoes and rotten eggs). How many still remember the tale??? (kitty smiles sheepishly…)
Ok, to the reviewers: Big thanks to reviewers!! Apocalyptical, DracoDormiens7, JadeAlmasy, Totaltailuver and Jicky. Nope, despite the slow progress kitty’s not keen on abandoning the fic cuz it’s already put here for all to see. Guess what, there’s still a huge stash of chapter 1’s and 2’s for other fics that kitty still hasn’t got the time and drive to get them moving… and they’ve been sitting there for as long as a few years already…
Anyway, really thanks for coming to have a look and leaving some treats. Kitty sure needs them to brighten up the day.
Enough of me rambling. Hope you enjoy!
Chapter 4
The Beast brutally smashed the door open as he held his dark gunblade in front of him prepared for a big fight. The half-man was instructing his minions to put up extra wards in the castle when he suddenly heard painful screams next door to his chamber. Without another word the group quickly moved with weapons drawn.
The gunblader’s posture relaxed considerably when there was no sign of any enemies in the room. Emerald green softened with concern as the Beast found Squall lying on his back with an arm over his eyes. The boy was sobbing hard and it appeared that he did not notice the blond’s loud entrance. Without turning the Beast sheathed his weapon and flicked his wrist to dismiss his servants, who immediately took the hint and retreated to work on the wards.
"Hey, you ok?" The Beast cooed softly as he sat on the bed and gently brushed aside the sweat-soaked bangs. Golden brows came together in a frown as he noticed the boy was still having a high fever.
"…"
With a soft sigh the Beast decided to lie beside the brunet and gather the limp form in his arms. Running his clawless hand through the chocolate brown mess the blond let the boy bury his face in the nook of his neck. "Is it hurting? Where? Can you tell me?"
The tightening of the hand clutching his shirt after a broken sob was the only answer.
"Sh… it’s ok. Relax, I’m here. We’re all here to protect you."
His curiosity was raised when Squall shook his head. "Hn?"
"I…" Squall was still hiding his face as he refused to look up. "I (sob) am not afraid. (Sob) I can take care of myself. (Sob) Really. It’s just… (sniffle) I really wish…"
"Hush!" A finger was placed on pale lips, stopping Squall from continuing. "Be careful what you wish for. I learnt it the hard way, Cub."
Squall pushed up and glared hard and the man lying beneath him, crystal tears were flowing freely over fever-tainted cheeks. "But she didn’t need to die, okay!? If only she didn’t throw me towards Father when the damned sorceress attacked! It was meant for me, right here!!" In a mad rush the brunet yanked his shirt open where fresh blood was seeping through the bandages and painted the outline of the unfinished rune.
"Gentle, Cub. Gentle." The Beast scolded in a whisper as he slowly pushed the boy to lie back down onto the bed and placed his palm over the injury. "At this rate Zell’s feathers will be running out really soon." Although I really doubt he still has any left, that imbecile of a chicken…
Squall’s eyes went half closed when blue lights began to shine above his toned chest. "What are you doing?" His breath hitched when the brunet felt as if his whole being was being immersed in a warm ocean where all sense of gravity deserted him.
"Sh… just relax." Moving close to plant a gentle kiss on Squall’s wet forehead, the Beast let his hand rest on the boy’s chest, where he could feel the heartbeat getting calmer as the brunet’s breathing gradually evened out. The Beast smiled pleasingly at his handiwork, showing his fangs which glinted against the moonlight shining through the windows.
Squall opened his eyes with a sigh when the healing spell was finished. But the Beast didn’t remove his hand from the muscled chest, where Squall swore he could still feel the energy coming from the half man hovering above him like a mother hen. The touch was really soothing and Squall couldn’t help but whined in complaint when his saviour retrieved his hand.
"Better?"
Squall nodded. "Thanks."
Turning his head towards the Beast, the brunet suddenly asked, "What’s your name?" At the half-man’s amused look the brunet added shyly, "I can’t call you Bastard all the time after what you’ve done for me, can I?"
Squall immediately regretted his question when he saw a smug feral grin climbing on to the half man’s face. "I happen to like it, you know. It sounds really endearing when my fiancée calls me a bastard day in and out don’t you think?" The Beast winked.
Squall pouted with a frown and shifted to sit up so that he could face the larger man properly. "I told you…"
The Beast couldn’t help but chuckle at the adorable sight. The gunblader looked just like an annoyed little kitten angry about his hair being rubbed from the wrong side. Feeling playful the blond reached out and ruffled the brunet’s already messy hair, relieved to find that the fever had already subdued.
"Yeah, I heard you the first time. But I’d still like to take you as my bride."
Squall didn’t buy it. Brushing his bangs from his eyes in annoyance the brunet growled, "Honest, what am I here for?"
"What, to be my bride, of course." The Beast answered leisurely as he folded his arms behind his head for a makeshift pillow.
"I don’t understand. You asked my father for the first living thing that met him on his way home and it was actually a T-Rex. You couldn’t have thought of taking the giant lizard as your bride, right?"
A small smile from the Beast was the only answer.
"Fine. Whatever." Not bothering to talk to the bastard anymore Squall decided to slip off the bed. Unaware of his weakened state the brunet immediately collapsed as he tried to stand up on his own.
"Damn, I hate this!" The boy muttered aloud and completely ignored the offered hand in front of his face. Hiding under the long bangs Squall looked away and refused to meet caring emerald green that were pinning him with concern.
Silence stretched on as though it were going to last till eternity.
The Beast suddenly took a deep breath.
"Seifer Almasy."
To an untrained person it seemed as though the announcement did nothing to Squall who was still sitting on the floor motionless. But being a seasoned warrior the Beast let a small smirk of triumph cross his face momentarily as he noticed the brunet’s subtle change in his aura. The boy was definitely listening.
Trusting his instincts the blond then proceeded to lift the quiet boy into his arms and gently deposited his charge onto the bed. After burying the teen among the pile of pillows the blond claimed the space beside the smaller gunblader and rested against the headboard.
With a far away look the man continued, "That was my name a long time ago… before all those shit happened. I nearly forgot it until…" Seifer shook his head with a bitter sigh, "never mind."
Squall blinked and stole a curious glance at the blond from the corner of his eyes. For a brief moment the brunet swore he saw emerald green eyes glistening with unshed tears.
"The woman that you met was Sorceress Ultimecia. She appeared about twenty years ago and took over the castle in one single night. She was about to set sail for her quest to take over the world when all of a sudden she came back badly injured and retreated to the Secret Area. People thought she was gone for good but before long, mass disappearance occurred.
Turns out it was Ultimecia luring people into the Secret Area so that she could feed from them. Only few managed to escape, but those were left with unforgettable scars." Seifer then looked down at his scaled hand.
"Did she do this to you?" The curious kitten timidly ran his finger over Seifer’s transformed hand and examined the pearly scales under the moonlight.
"Hn. Partly my fault. I wasn’t really listening to anyone when I stupidly decided to take on the sorceress on my own. I made Ultimecia so furious that she cursed everyone that still remained in the castle and changed us into monsters. We have been living like this ever since."
Seifer then sighed, "we weren’t strong enough to defeat Ultimecia so we tried to restrain her by building wards around the castle. But that moron decided to come and set off a bomb…"
That caused Squall to slap a hand over his face as he groaned, "Laguna…"
The blond merely shrugged. "Anyway, if the seer’s vision can be trusted at all, the sorceress should be at her full power in a few months time. It might not be a bad idea to release her early so that we can defeat her while she’s still relatively weak." At that, Seifer turned towards the chocolate brown hair boy with a charming smile, "Thanks to you, I think we do have a chance to end this shit once and for all."
"What about the golden angel that I saw?"
"Golden angel?"
Squall nodded and elaborated, "in the Secret Area before I black out".
Mirth was dancing in Seifer’s eyes as he said softly, "You were hallucinating, Sweetie." Ruffling the boy’s hair affectionately the beast planted a big smooch on the smooth pale cheek. "Let me get you some food." And then the Beast turned towards the door, leaving Squall on the bed all by himself watching his back as the man retreated.
It focused on Rinoa.
Cut scene 3 - … Back to Chapter 2 – imagine Laguna really brought back the first living creature he met on his way home…
The Beast was pacing a trench in the lobby waiting for his bride when Zell announced her arrival. With giddy anticipation the master quickly moved towards the window to sneak a peek at his bride-to-be, only to find Laguna dragging the corpse of the T-Rex up the chain to his castle.
The Beast sweatdropped. His scales glistened as the sweat glided passed, matching the pearly reflections from the dead giant lizard.
Chicken rolled onto the floor and laughed. "Oh man, definitely the most matching bride you can ever get!!!"

Emerald green widened as the Beast found Squall hiding underneath the sheets. Noticing movement at the corner the blond immediately turned and pointed his weapon at the intruder...
A cockroach was smugly devouring a piece of chocolate cake lying innocently on the floor…
"Chicken, I thought I told you to put up some wards here!!?"
"I did!" The butler immediately rushed in. "Oh, you mean that type of ward…"
