Title: Look Down
Author: Sonata Night
Rating: G
Pairing: Sirius/Remus
Summary: Remus dies, but Sirius leads him into the afterlife.
Notes: Okay, so the summary sucked, but a bit of fluff for Tro because she’s sad over HPB.
He didn’t know who it was who hit him with the final blow, but he knew that he’d been hit by about three spells at once from Draco and two Death Eaters. And then someone hit him with “Crucio!” and he began to twist and writhe along the ground, and when they released him, he knew that he wasn’t going to recover.
So he lay there, barely breathing, feeling tiredness descend over him. And then he heard Sirius’ voice. But that couldn’t be, because Sirius was dead. He’d died five years ago.
But he opened his eyes and saw above him what looked like Padfoot. “Si…Sirius…” A mere breath escaped him, his lips curved up, and he watched as the ghost of Sirius descended closer.
”He’s still alive!” Someone said. Draco held out his hand.
”Leave him. He won’t be for long. Don’t waste your energy.” He said coldly. Remus barely heard him. And then Padfoot was Sirius.
i Remus, my old friend. /i
”Sirius.” Remus breathed again. “I guess I didn’t quite last long enough to help.”
Sirius smiled at him. i Remus, you’ve done plenty. Since we were young, you protected me and I protected you. And you protected me as best you could. You fought for Harry and Dumbledore, but you fought for me, even after I died. And now I’m protecting you. Do you remember when we were at Hogwarts? /i
”I remember.” Remus coughed. His eyes started to fall shut and he struggled to keep them open. “James knew about us, but he never said anything.”
i He didn’t need to. And we didn’t need to tell anyone. You found Tonks after I died. Did you love her? /i Sirius was next to him, and the fighting had faded away to nothing in Remus’ head.
”Yes. But not like you. Nobody else would ever…” Remus didn’t have enough breath to finish and he drew another shaky lungful of air. “Si-“ He coughed again.
i Don’t speak anymore. We have plenty of time left. /i
”I’m dying, Sirius.” Remus whispered. “We have no time left at all.”
Sirius smiled at him, his eyes shining even with their transparency. i We have all of the afterlife. /i
The afterlife. Remus wondered what it was like.
i Beautiful. I watched you from above in the white clouds, and I continued to love you. I saw all the war and pain, saw the beauty in you that you carry. In the others, yes, but you and Harry were the most beautiful. /i
”You would have been beautiful too.” Remus murmured, letting his eyes shut.
i I’m here with you, Remus. Let go. /i Sirius whispered to him. Remus obeyed, waves of the most blissful sleep washing over him. And when he opened his eyes again, he was looking at himself, Sirius next to him. i What do you see? /i
i I… I’m beautiful. /i Remus whispered. Remnants of his spirit, his aura, were around him, golden and white swirls. They drifted upwards. i So are you, Sirius. /i
Sirius smiled at him. i There are others waiting for you. James, Lily, Dumbledore, everyone that we love who died. /i
Remus returned the smile and as Sirius began to rise, he followed.
