New Year Surprise

Gray and dark snow clouds filled the night sky as a pink haired girl looked out her bedroom window.

Haruno Sakura sighed as she looked out her window from her bed.

The kunoichi slowly slid out of bed and walked over to the window.

She slowly opened it, causing the chilly night wind to blow though the room.

It’s hard to believe another year has gone by...” thought Sakura with a sigh.

And I’m still not any closer to Sasuke..”

Sakura hung her head low.

She pulled up a nearby chair and sat down in it, staring out the window again.

The kunoichi closed her eyes and rested her head on the windowsill.

I wish he could see that all I’m trying to do is help him,” thought Sakura with another sigh.

Hell yeah, and win his heart too!” shouted inner Sakura.

Sakura’s eyebrow twitched in an annoyed matter.

She really didn’t want to deal with her inner self right now.

Helping him is more important than winning his heart.”

Inner Sakura gasped in shock.

What are you talking about girl! Of course you need to win his heart!”

Sakura let out a sigh.

You’re right. At first, that was the only thing on my mind when I was around him, but now it’s different.”

How so?” protested her inner self.

Sakura opened her eyes slowly.

At first, I tried to win his heart so I could beat Ino, but I ended up having a crush on him instead, and now all I want is for him to be happy.”

Inner Sakura just shook her head.

I want him to be happy; even if’s not with me, but someone else,” thought Sakura sadly.

After being on team 7 with him for a year now, I realize he’s not the type of person to open up to people easily.”

Sakura slowly stood up and leaned against the wall.

But I don’t mind his coldness at all. The best thing I can do is let him know that I’m always here for him. Then, maybe one day, he’ll open up to me.”

Sakura and her inner self sat there in silence for awhile, until her inner self broke the silence.

You really do truly love him with all your heart.”

Sakura smiled as a small blush formed on her cheeks.

Yes.”

Elsewhere, at the shinobi training grounds, a familiar raven-haired boy was training, as usual.

(A/N: Man, he even trains in the snow, in the middle of night on New Year’s Eve!)

Uchiha Sasuke charged at a dummy, striking it with a ferocious kick to the head.

He flipped back and landed perfectly.

The shinobi panted hard as sweat dripped down his face.

He had been training since early morning, and hadn’t stopped since.

Sasuke prepared to charge again, but just as he was about to strike, a certain pinked-haired girl flashed through his mind.

The shinobi stopped and shook his head.

Why the hell can’t I get her out of my mind!” thought Sasuke as he grabbed his towel to wipe his sweat away.

Is it because of the way she’s been treating me lately...?” he mused, as his mind began to fall into a flashback.

Flashback

Sasuke leaned against a tree in the training grounds waiting for the rest of team 7 to show up.

He closed his eyes, the warm sun shining down on him as he waited.

Morning, Sasuke!” said a sweet voice.

Sasuke opened his eyes to be met by Sakura green ones.

Hn,” was his only response.

Sakura sighed and smiled faintly.

“Same old Sasuke,” thought Sakura as she turned and look up at the clear blue sky.

Neither of them said a word.

Sasuke glanced at Sakura, but she was too busy staring at the sky to notice.

“Hmm...Sakura’s usually all over me, but...today, she’s barely said anything to me,” thought Sasuke, still staring at the kunoichi.

“Maybe she doesn’t have a crush on me anymore...” As Sasuke thought those words, he felt a searing pain go though his heart.

Sasuke grabbed his shirt, putting his hand on his heart.

“What the hell was that,” thought Sasuke, annoyed by the feeling.

“Could I be hurt by the fact that she might not like me anymore...?”

He shook the thought away.

“No, she’s just another crazy fan girl who likes me for looks and strength.”

The shinobi gave the girl one last look.

“But, maybe she…,” Sasuke’s thought was interrupted by a certain maverick hyperactive shinobi.

Sakura! Sasuke!” shouted Naruto as he ran up to his teammates, as hyper as ever.

Morning, Naruto,” said Sakura, who was trying her best not to sound too annoyed by his hyperness.

Dobe,” said Sasuke lazily.

What was that, teme!” shouted Naruto angrily.

I said you were a Dobe; did you not hear me above all of that racket that you’re making?” said Sasuke with a smirk.

Sakura groaned; they were at it again.

Why, you--” said Naruto as he was about to attack Sasuke, when a cloud of smoke appeared, and a hand grabbed the troublesome shinobi’s arm, stopping him dead in his tracks.

Now, save your energy for training,” said their silver-haired sensei.

Naruto growled and pouted, but didn’t move.

So...why are you late this time, Kakashi-sensei?” asked Sakura as she tapped her foot, annoyed.

Well, you see, I got--”

--Lost on the road of life again.” Naruto and Sakura finished the sentence simultaneously.

Kakashi sweatdropped and nodded.

That’s typical,” said the kunoichi as she rolled her eyes.

It was at that moment that Sakura noticed that Sasuke was staring at her.

Green eyes met obsidian ones.

The shinobi quickly looked away.

“What was I thinking! I’ve been staring at her for at least five minutes...” thought Sasuke as a slight blush appeared on his cheeks.

The confused kunoichi looked at Sasuke.

“Is he blushing...?” thought Sakura before shaking her head.

“No, he would never blush, and never because of me,” thought Sakura sadly as she looked back at her other two teammates who were talking.

End of flashback

Sasuke charged at the dummy and kicked it in the head again.

Why can’t I get that memory out of my head! And that feeling, too...” growled Sasuke, annoyed.

The shinobi attacked the dummy again, this time, kicking its head clear off.

It landed with a “thud” on the ground.

Sasuke sighed.

Could it be...that...I...,” Sasuke growled at the thought.

He shook his head violently. “No way!”

He grabbed his towel again as the village clock struck 11 p.m.

Sasuke looked up at the sky, it was starting to snow.

“Is it really that late...?” Sasuke thought out loud.

The shinobi wrapped his towel around his shoulders.

Guess I better head home...” thought Sasuke as he left the training grounds.

The snow fell around the young Uchiha as he headed home, but all was not well.

Sasuke felt dizzy as he walked, his head spinning a mile a minute.

Dammit...what’s...wrong...with...me...!” thought Sasuke as he fell to his knees.

A minute later he fell to the ground as he blacked out…

As Sakura stared out her window, something caught her eye.

There’s something in the snow,” she thought as she jumped out the window to investigate.

As the kunoichi got closer to the object, she gasped.

There lay Sasuke, out like a light.

“Sasuke!” yelled Sakura as she raced to his side.

The kunoichi put her ear to his heart.

Good, his breathing seems fine,” thought Sakura as she tried to pick Sasuke up.

As she did, a blush appeared on her cheeks, she was so close to the Uchiha...

I don’t have time for this crap, I have to help Sasuke!” thought Sakura as she took the shinobi into her house…

Darkness...that was all he saw at first, but then light flooded through his mind.

Sasuke slowly opened his eyes and blinked, trying to focus.

After a minute, he realized he was in a room with...pink walls?

This definitely wasn’t his room.

“Thank goodness you’re awake.”

Sasuke’s eyes started in surprise; he knew that voice all too well.

The shinobi turned to the door.

There was Sakura, holding a tray with soup and a glass of juice on it.

“Are you alright, Sasuke...?” asked Sakura as she sat the tray on the bed in front of him.

Sasuke just nodded.

“That’s good, you had me worried...” said Sakura with her sunshine smile.

Sasuke turned away as a blush tried to appear on his cheeks.

“You should eat something,” said the kunoichi, pointing to the tray.

Sasuke nodded and picked up a spoon and began to eat.

I must have fainted from fatigue and hunger,” thought Sasuke as he ate.

Sakura smiled as the Uchiha ate the food she made.

“You’ve been training all day, haven’t you? That’s why you fainted from fatigue,” said Sakura as Sasuke finished.

The shinobi looked up in surprise.

Did she really know him that well?

Sasuke simply nodded.

Sakura sighed.

“You really need to make sure you don’t push yourself too hard,” she said.

Sasuke stared at her for awhile.

The kunoichi shifted under his gaze.

“Sasuke...” At that, the shinobi snapped out of his daze.

“Not again,” he mumbled, looking down at the floor.

He stared at it for awhile as a question started inching its way into his mind, repeating itself again and again.

I can’t take it anymore,” Sasuke mentally shouted.

“Sakura,” said the Uchiha.

Sakura started with shock.

She had being staring at the floor, like him, trying to figure out what was so interesting about it.

“Yes, Sasuke...?” said Sakura staring into hisObsidian eyes.

“What do you think of me?” asked Sasuke with a hint of emotion in his eyes and a slight blush on his face.

Sakura’s eyes widened in surprise as a deep crimson blush formed on her cheeks.

Was this really happening?

“I…love…you,” managed Sakura to spit out as her face turned red.

Sasuke felt his blush grow deeper.

What was this feeling in his heart, this feeling of warm and pure joy?

“I’ve always liked you, but at first I only thought you were a prize to be won, but then I developed a crush on you and now, I truly love you with all my heart,” said Sakura blushing madly.

Sasuke felt that new feeling in his heart growing and consuming him.

“I-I’m sorry I ever thought of you as a prize, Sasuke,” said Sakura as she shed guilty tears.

Sakura looked up as she felt a hand upon her face.

There was Sasuke, his Obsidian eyes staring into her green ones.

“I forgive you,” said Sasuke with one of his rare smiles.

“Sasuke,” said Sakura though her tears.

There they sat, Sasuke’s hand on her face, lost in each others eyes.

“Sakura,” said Sasuke.

His voice snapped her back to reality.

“Yes, Sasuke...?” said Sakura, staring into the shinobi’s eyes.

“I…love…you…too,” said Sasuke shakily as he blushed harder.

Truth is, he had always thought of Sakura different from others.

Over time he had slowly, but surely, fallen for her.

She was kind, loving, smart, a pain, annoying, loud, cute and she truly loved him.

Over time, he had grown attached to Team 7, too; they were like family to him, but he wouldn’t admit it.

But here he was now admitting his love for Sakura.

She always gave him a warm feeling in his heart.

Sakura lit up at his words, her eyes sparkled with joy.

Sasuke pulled her in and hugged her tightly never wanting to let go.

Sakura felt her heart race.

She was finally with the man she loved.

After what seemed like forever they pulled away.

“Sasuke,” said Sakura looking into his eyes.

“Sakura,” said Sasuke looking into her eyes.

The couple found themselves leaning in closer to each other until there lips met in a sweet kiss.

As they kissed the village clock stroked 12pm, it was a new year and a new beginning for the two lovesick teammates.

Sasuke kissed Sakura passionately as she wrapped her arms around his neck.

The two finally broke away for air.

“That was amazing,” they said together.

The two looked at each other and laughed.

“Happy New Year, Sasuke,” said Sakura smiling.

“Happy New Year, Sakura,” said Sasuke returning her smile.

The couple sat there together, watching the New Year snowflakes fall and hoping for the best new year ever…
