A/N: This is actually a fic I wrote, as opposed to one I posted that someone else wrote. No, I didn't steal it. I got her permission. She said I could.I like this fic. I hope you do too. If so, tell me that. I reply to all reviewers.
Disclaimer: Ha! Did you really think I owned GG? No. I don’t. Do I obsess about it? Sure. Love it? Oh yeah. But I don’t own any of it. But I do own the storyline. That’s mine.
Rating: It really doesn't need one. I’m a goody-goody. I couldn’t write something bad if I wanted to.
Summary: Jess writes letters. But they aren't as nice as they seem.
Chapter One
Dear Mr. Taylor Doose,
I am writing to sincerely apologize for certain offences I committed against your establishment a few years back when I was a resident of Stars-Hollow. I was irresponsible and unkind. Please accept my apology for whatever losses and stress this may have caused you. Enclosed is a check for fifty dollars to compensate for your losses.
Sincerely,
Jess Mariano
Dear Mr. Morey and Mrs. Babette Dell,
I sincerely apologize for a crime I committed against you five years ago. Even though a large amount of time has passed, I never apologized for stealing your gnome, Pierpont, from your yard when I was seventeen. For the distress this may have caused you, and for any damage to Pierpont, I have enclosed a check for twenty-five dollars. I am truly sorry.
Sincerely,
Jess Mariano
Dear Ms. Weston,
Some time ago, I stole a garden hose from your grandmother, Fran Weston. Though it was returned, I wish to apologize and repay your family for this trespass. Please accept my apology and a check for thirty dollars.
Sincerely,
Jess Mariano
Dear members of the Stars Hollow Business Association, the Stars Hollow Tourist Board, the Stars Hollow Neighborhood Watch Organization, and the Stars Hollow Citizens for a Clean Stars Hollow Council,
I wish to apologize for any offences I committed against Stars Hollow High School, the “Save the bridge” association, and the entire town of Stars Hollow. Please accept this check for one-thousand dollars to save the bridge, if the “Save the bridge” campaign has not been completed, or to all those stupid festivals and carnivals you seem so fond of.
Thanks for the fun times in Stars Hollow,
Jess Mariano

He smirked as he walked to the mailbox. Even though his letters were full of formality and apology, his reason for sending them would be his final jab at their town. In many ways, it was a better final prank then anything he had done in Stars-Hollow.
By not allowing them good reason to hate him, he took away the power they had over him. They weren’t any better than him now. He really was a bit sorry for the things he’d done to some of them. Fran Weston, Morey and Babette, the nicer people. But the letters to Taylor were for his enjoyment only. And Taylor would know it. But the town had its freakish “Emily Post” type rules, so they couldn’t say a word. He had left them alone for years. But he would have the last laugh over Stars-Hollow.
The idea had come to him as soon as he got the first royalty check from his book. It wasn’t much, but he had survived before he wrote the book, so he figured that he really didn’t need most of the money. To know that he had one-upped Taylor Doose for the last time was worth it all. Plus, in some far-fetched way, Rory would be his accomplice. The checks came from the book, and the book was for her, so really, she was the reason he could do this at all. And Taylor would never know that his town princess was the reason for these letters. And the beauty was, he would watch it all unfold, and they wouldn’t even know it.
The second part of the plan came later. To come back to Stars-Hollow to see it, to witness the town meeting, it was perfect. Maybe he was overestimating how they would react. He didn’t think so. From what he remembered about how they felt, and what Rory had told him about the town meeting when Luke had defended him from the town, they would care. They would care quite a bit.
He put the letters in the mailbox and smiled. “You’re going down. I promise you that.”

Taylor Doose yawned as he awoke. What a beautiful morning! I need to get Luke to put up that curtain on his side of the window between the diner and the Candy Shoppe… Oh well… I’ll get to that later. After dressing and eating breakfast Taylor walked outside to get the mail. Junk mail, bills, junk mail, I really need to get some law passed about all this advertisement. “What’s this?” He looked down and saw a letter addressed to a Mr. Taylor Doose, but it was from an address in Pennsylvania. Who would be writing me from Pennsylvania? He walked inside and sat down. He opened the letter from Philadelphia first. It contained a check for fifty dollars. Dear Mr. Taylor Doose, I am writing to sincerely apologize for certain offences I committed against your establishment a few years back… What is this? He continued to read the letter, but it wasn’t until he saw who wrote it that what it really was clicked in. “Him! I don’t understand it. Why would he… Of course! That little delinquent!” And with that, he walked off to begin the process of calling a town meeting about this issue.

Babette had totally forgotten about the theft of Pierpont until she got the mail that day. “Morey! Sweetie! You’ll never believe who sent us a check for twenty-five bucks! Ya remember that kid, Luke’s nephew, the one who stole Pierpont? Well he wrote us an apology for it!”
“That’s nice dear.”

Kate Weston had never met Jess Mariano herself, but her grandmother had told her about him.
“He was a strange boy, he was. The two things I really remember about him was that he stole my garden hose, and he was madly in love with Rory Gilmore, Lorelai’s girl. A good kid, just confused.”
Then, one day, she got a letter from a Jess Mariano, with a 30 dollar check inside. “Taylor will want to know about this.”

Jess had seen it all. He’d sat in his car across from Taylor’s house, looked in the window of Morey and Babette’s, and did some yard work for Kate Weston, who had never actually met him. He saw all of it, and it was sweet. But the part he wanted to see was the town’s reaction, not just theirs. So he would be sure to see the town meeting Taylor would be sure to call.
He walked from his car, which was parked at Luke’s, to the Dragonfly. How ironic that he would be staying at the Dragonfly, Fran Weston’s old place. People thought he had ignored what went on in Stars-Hollow. He hadn’t. This was where the rubber would meet the road. Getting a room under a fake name, and avoiding Lorelai enough not to be discovered. He looked through the window. Michel was at the desk, and Lorelai was nowhere to be seen. Thank God for that. Michel would definitely not know him, and though Lorelai hated him, she definitely would. He walked inside and headed to the desk.
“One room please.”
“Fine. One room. Your name?”
“Milo Vuelto.”
“Fine. Here is your key. Go away and do not bother me any longer.”
“Thanks.”
He walked to his room and sat down to think. Would this really work? Could he use letters to manipulate the entire town one last time? This was so him, but so not him. It would drive Taylor insane, him, but it took dedication, time, and effort, which were not him. But the one consistent thing was that he wasn’t sure about what he was doing. But he would do it. Whether joy or simply fulfillment came from it, he would do it.
