Wolf in North Hampton
Raphael closed his eyes. He, his brothers, and their master had been riding in a trailer hitched to the back of April's van for the past three hours, and he was ready for some shut eye. At first, they couldn't quit talking about the adventure they had just had two days ago, but with the strange October snow storm and all of them sore and weary from the very adventure, all the turtles and Splinter were ready for rest. All of them were - except for Nova.
Just as Raph's head began to tilt over as he sat in his chair, a furry paw landed itself right on his left thigh - the one next to the window seat. Now, it wouldn't have been much of a deal for Raph - he was covered up, his leg wasn't the sore spot on his body, and wolf fur actually turned out to feel comfortably soft and warm, but then again it wasn't the fur that was sinking deeply through the quilt on Raph's thigh and penetrating the turtles otherwise thick, green skin.
"Nova, OFF!" Raph roared at the small wolf-like creature standing on his lap.
Noholana Serenity Marisa Danetreacy - otherwise known as the laughable Nova Dane - was a whiny, prudent, smart allick wolf-like creature which she claimed as a 'furre'. Nova was one of the four Na WAS - or protectors - of Earth along with Raphael himself, Splinter, and Leonardo. She had helped save Donny and Mikey who had turned out to be Ones, or the beings of Earth that were supposed to embody the good of Earth. Nova's old 'master', Grey, had wished to destroy Don and Mike in hopes of starting his universal takeover with Earth. Nova, along with two mighty beasts called Na KU, had helped the turtles and saved Earth. Afterwards the Daimyo of the Nexus captured Dracko - who ended up being one of Grey's henchmen - and sent them back to Earth, with Nova in their 'care'.
As much as Raph despised having Nova around, the two of them were almost like best friends. She loved to joke and have a good time and Raph had to admit to himself that at first he had been fearful of loosing Nova's companionship to his brother, Mikey, but not true. Nova and Michelangelo were friends and quite the troublesome duo, but it was Raph that Nova devoted most of her time to - even if it meant a few fights here and there.
Currently the menace was looking out of the trailer’s window - one knee on the table that was sticking from the wall and her other foot sinking its claws into Raph's thigh for balance.
Leo was soundly sleeping on the bench opposite side of the table of his red-clad brother and the wiry furre. Leonardo had the worst experience of his family on their 'adventure'. Early into the venture he and Donatello were kidnapped by Grey and imprisoned where Leo was tricked into becoming Grey's brain-washed apprentice. He had to watch through his own mind as his body was used by Grey to hunt down his own family and ultimately slaughter Michelangelo's new-found friend - ripping out her heart and allowing the blood to flow over him. Once Leo was able to grab onto his senses, he assisted his family in the final battle against Grey and delivered the first of the fatal blows to the Lord of Shadow Beasts. Afterwards, Leonardo found himself weary and ill, one of the many reasons that the turtles and Splinter asked for Casey and April to bring them to the farm in North Hampton.
Nova then did something that the Raph wasn't expecting, she threw open the shutters and opened the screen window - a bone slicing gust of air flowed into the room causing everyone to jump in surprise. The furre then flung her front torso out of the window and grasped onto the outside edges of the trailer and opened her mouth wide and shut her eyes tightly as she stuck her tongue out.
Casey looked into the mirror of the van and through the snow saw something that looked sort of silvery and had what he thought resembled a streamer hanging from the top of it. He rolled down the window and adjusted the mirror and took a closer look.
"Casey, shut the window! We don't want to draw attention to--" April turned back and her eyes widened. "OH MY--"
The stiff ears on the top of Nova's head perked up and she turned around and glared at a beamer that was honking behind them.
"STOP TRYIN' TO FREAK OUT MY GAL!" the teenaged show off yelled as he honked.
Nova arched her eye brow. "MY FRIENDS TOLD ME IT WAS ILLEGAL TO OWN PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD!" Nova yelled back.
"NOVA!" Don, Raph, and Mikey all yelled at once.
"HOLD ON!" Nova yelled to the bewildered teenagers before turning her body around back into the trailer - smacking Raphael's face with her long, fluffy tail while doing so. "What?" she asked them in confusion.
"SHUT THE WINDOW!" they yelled again - nearly startling Leonardo as he slowly woke up with a few coughs.
"Okay," Nova stated before turning once more and smacking Raph's head with her tail for a second time. She stuck her head out the window once more. "MY FRIENDS DON'T WANT ME TO KEEP THE WINDOW OPEN CAUSE THEIR COLD BLOODED!"
"NOVA!" they yelled hysterically.
"BRUTOS!" Nova yelled in her own language with a final wave and swift motion of sweeping herself back into the trailer.
Before Nova could turn and hit Raph with her tail a third time, Splinter had gently 'guided' her off the table before abruptly shutting the window and shudders.
"Nov, ya can't do that!" Raph growled.
"Nov? When'd this start?" Nova asked. "I thought 'Nova' was enough of a shortening of my name...why take off the 'a'?"
"He's an 'a' hater," Mikey whispered for him and Nova to both giggle at silently.
Splinter crossed his arms. "Miss Dane, I do realize that there are not many things you have come to fully understand about returning to Earth, but I believe we have made it clear that our well-being depends on secrecy." He arched a brow at her. "You are able to keep a secret, are you not?"
Slowly Nova nodded - she hated lectures. Since for eleven years of her life she had been under the mind control of Grey, she hadn't received many - her own maternal parents had chased her out of their wolf pack when she was unable to fend for herself, it was only because of her odd appearance she had not been destroyed by the time Grey found her and abducted her. Now that she had somewhat adopted the turtles and Splinter as her family, she was beginning to feel the wrath of parenting coming at her like a fireball.
"We were found out?" Leo asked - nearly out of it. He rubbed his eyes a last time, showing that they were blood shot and had bags under them from the 'cold'.
"Do not freight, Leonardo, please return to resting," Splinter said softly with a small nod.
Leo mumbled something as he rubbed his eyes before he folded his arms on the table and then laid his head face-down in the center of it.
Splinter gently adjusted Leonardo's blanket before turning around and looking to the built-in bunk beds that housed a comic-book reading Michelangelo and an equally sick Donatello.
Don had equally received a horrible adventure. When he and Leonardo had been imprisoned, Grey had force fed him this 'serum' that made Donatello actually believe there were things crawling under his skin. He had drifted into an energy-consuming fever and was unknowing of what was occurring to his body as he scratched at it. He also had the guilt of being the very reason for Leonardo's 'dark side'.
With a small sigh, Splinter walked over to the bunk beds and knelt to the bottom one where Donatello laid with his laptop. He was scurrying away on his keyboard, but Splinter could see the same blood-shot look in Donatello's eyes. Don wanted to sleep badly, but he also wanted to research anything to give him a better idea of what Grey had 'fed' him.
"And how are you feeling, Donatello?" the aging rat asked simply.
"Better," Don lied - if anything he felt worse.
"You should rest as well, my son," Splinter stated.
"Leo's worse than I am," Don replied. "Besides, we're not far from the farm - it would be senseless to sleep now."
Which is why I told you to sleep at first, Splinter thought with a shake of his head. "If you insist, my son - at least do me a favor of covering some more."
Don swung his shoulders back and forth just enough to deepen himself into the covers some more to please his father.
Splinter sighed and then returned to the only other seat left, another built-in 'bench' that was across from the table seats.
"I like Casey's new trailer," Mikey stated before pouring some more pork rinds into his mouth. "Very roomy."
Splinter chuckled and then picked up his still smoking coffee from the cup holder in the arm rests.
Nova still remained on the floor. She had laid herself out, crossed her arms behind her head, folded her right leg into an arch-like shape, and rested her left leg overtop of her right leg's knee so she could hang her foot over the top of it. She yawned as she looked at the ceiling and then slowly shut her eyes.
"Bout time she did sometin' but talked..." Raph grumbled as he swerved his body around so his shell was leaning against the wall of the trailer and his feet were under the covers as they propped themselves up on the bench.
Everything was quiet for a moment until the whole trailer jarred up and then hit down to the ground once more. Everyone for a moment flew into air before plummeting to the ground once more. Leo had banged his knees under the table and had to let out a yell. Raph was flown forwards and his chest hit right at the end of the bench, knocking the air out of him. Mikey had actually hit his head against the ceiling on the top bunk and then when he flew back down had hit his chin on the side panel. Don somehow avoided colliding with the top bunk - at the cost of his laptop flying out of the bottom bunk and into the kitchenette where it slammed against the cabinet. Splinter's hot coffee flew up and then poured down onto the rat's lap causing him to let out a yell of his own as his back slammed back against the backboard.
Nova had flown up - and then back. She hit the floor just below Don's laptop and threw her hands back to stop herself from colliding with the back end of the trailer.
Everyone was silent as they tried to restore order. Suddenly, Nova let out a roll of howl-like laughter.
"SPEED BUMP!" Nova yelled through her giggles - Mike had said that the first time the car had jarred.
"That ain't no speed bump!" Raph growled before throwing his blanket off and heading towards the door - just beside of Splinter's bench.
"Raphael, do not--"
But Splinter was unable to stop the door from opening - it opened before Raph could reach it.
April's red headed likeness jumped inside and then struggled against the snow afflicted winds to shut the door. Even though she had only walked from the van to the trailer, her shoulders and head was covered with at least two centimeters of snow.
"April, what happened?" Splinter questioned.
"Casey thinks he hit a coyote," April answered as she shook off some of the snow.
Nova quit laughing and straightened her ears up in high alert.
"Relative, Nova?" Mikey joked with his new friend - earning only a cold stare from the usually joyful wolf-girl.
"Is the van...alright?" Leo asked through a rattle of coughs.
"Yeah, Casey is just checking to see if there are any more out there," April stated.
Don picked up the sad remains of his lap top. "Actually, April, coyotes don't--"
Nova jumped up and sprinted to the door. She almost had it open when Raph and Splinter grabbed her and pulled her back to the center of the trailer. "It might be a sister!" Nova growled as she tried to reach the door. "It might be a brother or a sister!" she roared.
"Nova, it was a coyote!" Raph growled at the furre. "Calm down!"
The furre stopped struggling and stood still. Splinter and Raph let go of her and she sat down at the table with Raph.
"Wanna talk about it?" he whispered so low that only Nova's acute hearing could pick it up.
"No..." she stated sadly.
Casey swung the door open and pulled up a furry, dead head. "Hey, guys! It's a wolf!" he laughed. "Don't see too many of those back here!" he stated as he turned the dead animal's head towards his.
Nova's eyes narrowed and a deep growl rolled from her throat the same as you would expect purrs to come from a cat.
"CASEY!" April growled before she started hitting Casey's shoulder and forcing him out of the trailer.
"OWE! Whada I do!" Casey demanded before April swung the door shut.
"Man, this stupid snow makes it the longest drive," Raph growled. He looked over to Nova who was focused on her twiddling thumbs. "Don't think about it, Nov," Raph insisted. "Casey's just a bad driver."
Nova turned her head and looked out the window behind Splinter's head. Through one of the wider shutter panels she could make out a forest-line through the snow. In front of the forests, six or seven wolves stood - their many lighter shades of fur picking themselves out drastically from the backgrounds of trees and snow. As the car slowly began up and the trailer tugged behind it, Nova watched as the wolves' heads turned - looking at the car as it went by.
The suddenly depressed furre sluggishly slid lower into her seat and drew her ears down deep into her silvery hair that was tightly kept in her high pony-tail.
Raphael turned the blanket long ways and gave some of it to Nova. "We'll be there in a little bit - ya'll love Casey's farm," he restated.
Nova closed her eyes. "I'm sure I will," she yawned.

April swung the door open. "Sorry the snow made it a hard drive, guys," she stated softly. "But we're here!"
"FINALLY!" Mikey exclaimed from the top bunk - pork rinds flying off of him as he jumped down. He then ran to the door. "I'm so sick of sittin' on my butt!"
"What makes it any different than every other day?" Raph asked sharply.
"Come, my sons," Splinter chuckled as he repeatedly brushed his sleeves though the stains had already dried.
Nova was the last out, but her eyes lit up as she saw the scene ahead. It was so beautiful - especially in the deep snow. She was so sick of being in the city - even if for a few days. He instincts had been screaming at her!
She pranced around in the snow - her twinkle back in her large, sapphire eyes as she took in everything. "Oh, it's better than you guys even said!" she exclaimed as she shook her head to make sure it wasn't a dream.
"So ya coming in or ya freezing yar butt off?" Raph joked as he picked up some of the luggage and headed towards the farmhouse.
"In!" Nova asked in confusion before she turned from the forests and then looked at the cozy-looking house that they were all heading towards. Nova's ears flattened once more and her eyes grew dull. "Oh...into the house..." she stated somberly before picking up the tote bag that April had packed with clothes for the furre - they were mostly just Nova's usual orange and turquoise tank tops, her brown jean jacket, and denim jeans since she only kept one pair of her fingerless purple gloves.
"Summtin' wrong?" Raph asked confused by Nova's odd behavior.
Nova quickly whipped up one of her joyful smiles and caught up with him. "Nope. Let's...uh...go inside," she stated forcefully before running into the house.
Raph shook his head. "Women..."

Turtlefreak121: Ah, so it begins. Headin' to make this one good - I mean, I should if I took this much time to write the stinkin' first chapter! Oh, well - Nova's new behavior's off...but I enjoy it.
