She first returned to her quarters to change out of her ripped, slightly damp dress and brushed her tangled chestnut coloured hair. She had wanted to bathe too, feeling as if Akabane’s scent was clinging to her, weighing her down.
She didn’t want to address MakubeX smelling of death.
“I heard about it…’ he said, startling her “… About what happened to Juubei-san.”
Sakura bit her lip “MakubeX…” He stopped typing and turned to look at her. Though she had prepared herself for judgement, for criticism, Sakura was shocked to see him with a smile on his face “Sakura, do you love him?”
This threw her off-guard “I’m… I’m sorry?”
MakubeX’s blue eyes regarded her with curiosity “I asked if you love him, Sakura.”
A mixture of emotions flooded Sakura, she didn’t know if she could love Akabane, knowing what he had done, but on the other hand…
“Sakura.’ MakubeX spoke, once more jolting her out of her thoughts “do what makes you happy.”
Her breath caught. Why was he being so forgiving, so accepting? “MakubeX… Please don’t be so kind to me…” She whispered.
Still he smiled “I want you to be happy, Sakura… If you can believe in him, that’s good enough for me.”
Silent tears trickled down Sakura’s cheeks “Arigatou, MakubeX…”
As she left, walking down the corridor, she began to feel slightly uneasy.
“Akabane Kuroudo, huh? Now that’s a match not even I would have predicted.” Sakura whirled around.
“Kagami Kyoji…” The man stood behind her, his usual Cheshire cat grin plastered on his face.
“What do you want?” Sakura asked. The Babylon city native only appeared when something was about to happen.
He shrugged slightly “Nothing, I was just curious…’ he took a step towards her “… As to why you chose him, of all people.” Sakura backed away
“I haven’t chosen him…” she said and he chuckled lightly
“Of course you have… You’re not the type to give your heart easily, are you Kakei Sakura?” She didn’t like that he was trying to read her
“It is none of your business…” Her words died in her throat at the dark look in Kagami’s eyes
“There are things about him, things that are planned for him, Sakura-san, that are too shrouded in darkness for someone like you to understand.” He moved towards her and she flattened herself against a wall.
He placed a hand at either side of her, preventing escape “Because I observe, I cannot interfere, Sakura-san. So just take this as friendly advice; do not try to open Akabane Kuroudo’s heart. The things you may find there could smother and destroy you.”
Sakura’s shawl flew out and hit Kagami, but at the sound of shattering glass, she realized it was one of his illusions.
His voice rang through the empty hall “Remember my words, Sakura…”
There was silence.
Sakura shivered, suddenly the corridor felt very, very cold.
