CLUE: The Case of the Stolen Scepter

Summary: Based on the book series by A.E. Parker – which are all based on the characters and mansion of the Clue board game by Parker Brothers. The book series were my favorite series growing up and I began to read them in third grade. I found one of them while cleaning my room the other day and I just knew I had to try my hand at writing a fic just like them.

It would help if you know the characters and rooms for this fic. I am going to post the solution to the story as CHAPTER TWO. Therefore you can read this and try to figure it out on your own and check the solution under CHAPTER TWO.

Also following the solution is a short summary of what became of the characters.

Disclaimer: I do not claim to own any of the characters or elements of the Clue board game.

The guests all sat down anxiously on the couches and lounge chairs in the Study. Mr. Boddy walked in after them holding a beautiful golden scepter in his hands. The scepter was made of pure gold and was studded with lapis lazuli. At the top sat a strikingly large red ruby. All the guests’ eyes were glued to the staff in Mr. Boddy’s hand.

“This my friends is the scepter of King Tut. I won it the other day in an auction at the museum. It’s my latest treasure.” Mr. Boddy said proudly.

Miss Scarlet’s eyes doubled in size. That ruby is as red as my beautiful nails, she thought. I must have it.

“A wonderful addition.” Mr. Green admired.

“I’m not very into Ancient Egyptian things.” Mrs. White remarked. That’s just what I’ll let them all think, she thought. He won’t suspect me when I steal it tonight and use my Wrench to stop anyone who tried to stop me.

I scepter like that would make me feel just like a queen, Mrs. Peacock thought as she sipped her tea. “It really is stunning. I simply adore the lapis lazuli.”

“I…what did you say it was again?” asked forgetful Professor Plum. He rubbed his glasses with his handkerchief.

“King Tut’s scepter.” Colonel Mustard repeated sighing. “Bonehead.”

“How rude!” remarked Mrs. Peacock. “One should not speak like such a barbarian.”

“I bet that cost you a pretty penny.” Mr. Green put in.

“It sure did.” Mr. Boddy answered. “That’s why I’m going to hide it somewhere no one will find it.” All the guests groaned.

“Oh come now, Mr. Boddy.” Miss Scarlet chided. “You can trust us!” Sure you can trust me, she thought. You can trust me when I take my Knife and run out of the mansion with the scepter.

“I’m sure I can but it’s only a precaution.” Mr. Boddy said. “Now, I think it’s time for bed.” The guests moaned as they walked out of the study and up to their rooms. But the moaning was only a front. In their heads they were all thinking up schemes on how they would search the mansion later that night and take off with the treasure.

After the guests were all in bed Mr. Boddy chose a room in the mansion and hid the scepter. Then he too retired to bed and left the downstairs rooms dark and quiet.

Later that night a shadowy figure crept down the stairs as the distant grandfather clock struck three in the morning. The figure walked into the Lounge. They searched through a few drawers and tables but didn’t come across the scepter. After looking under the couch the guest used the secret passage and came out on the other side of the mansion.

While they searched the new room they didn’t hear a second guest creep into the room behind them. “What rooms have you searched?” The second guest demanded of the first.

The first guest tried to recall. “I don’t remember.” And with that the second guest hit the first on the head with their weapon. The Lead Pipe landed on the floor with a thud.

The second guest sighed and moved on to the Ball Room. After searching through some drawers and inside the grand piano, they didn’t come across the scepter. “Damn.”

“Watch your language!” A woman’s voice sounded behind the second guest. A gunshot rang out and the second guest fell to the floor.

The woman moved into the next adjacent room and searched through more drawers and a display case. Again she came up empty-handed. She walked into the second secret passage. In the dark she walked along the wall but stopped when she heard a footstep in front of her.

“Who’s there?” She called out.

A man’s voice called out after her. “Show yourself like a man! I challenge you to a duel.” And with that a shadowy figure came running down the narrow passage and the woman was hit over the head with the Candlestick.

The man walked out into the Study and turned the room upside down for the scepter. But nothing came up. As he walked out into the Hall he overhead something come from the Library.

“Ouch!” A woman’s voice said. “Watch where you’re going!”

“Sorry.” Another voice replied. The pair had bumped into each other while searching the Library and had dropped their weapons. They picked up the other guest’s weapon by accident and walked out of the room from different doors.

The second guest that had been in the Library walked into the guest who had been spying on them. “Hey…!” But they were hit over the head and their weapon was picked up by the man.

He walked down to the room between the Conservatory and the Library and found the woman in the room searching for the scepter. “Out of my way.” She told him.

She strangled the man with her weapon and picked up his weapon that he had stolen from the other guest and walked out of the room.

The remaining guest walked into the only remaining room that had not been searched and found Mr. Boddy standing there holding the scepter.

“I knew I heard some commotion down here.” Mr. Boddy said holding on tightly to his treasure.

“Give me the scepter, Mr. Boddy.” The guest demanded.

“Over my dead body!” Mr. Boddy refused.

“If that’s how you want it.” And with that the remaining guest murdered Mr. Boddy with their weapon and ran out with the scepter.

WHO KILLED MR. BODDY?
WHERE? AND WITH WHAT WEAPON?
