Queen’s notes: I do not own Brigadoon, though I want the other four DVDs I don’t have. ; Since I only have the third and sixth DVDs I don’t think that this ficlet is to be placed in any real spot in the saga. But if you can find one, cool! I’d love to hear it what you think and I hope no fans will come after me with pitchforks and what not. After I get the DVDs I’ll do better!
Nightmare
by Omicron the IceQueen
Eyes nearly the same color as human blood scanned the room for the up-teenth time in the last ten minutes, watching for any possible threat to the sleeping girl behind him that was in he care.
Melan Blue tilted his head to the right as he once again confirmed that Marin was a sleep and safe. He himself couldn’t sleep, and wouldn’t for the gun-swordsman had been in a full blown Over-Protective-Mode since earlier that after noon. Another monomakia had attacked him and his charge at the park when Marin attempted to introducing her guardian the many joys that was ice cream. Melan would have finished off the other monomakia rather quickly… had it not split into five… and chance Marin a good long way through the park before Melan could get pick her up and seek the semi sanctuary of the air.
Sadly, the ice cream didn’t make it at all.
Needless to say Melan Blue had hovered over his charge for the rest of the day and night. Quite literally.
A small noise from the sleeping girl made indigo armored warrior look back again. Marin was curled up around her pillow hugging it like a teddy bear, her eyes were squeezed shut and her body started to tense as if she was afraid of something. Melan immediately rose to his knees turning, his scanner slid over his right eye and visually checked the girl over wondering if he had missed an injury on Marin from earlier. There was none, other then the bruise on her upper left arm but that had come from an attack a week ago. With a mental thought his battle mask and scanner slid back.
This was new.
The humanoid monomania’s eye ridges furrowed in confusion as he tried to figure out what might be wrong. He had found that normally Marin would either restlessly flip over and over in her sleep or be silent and still as a rock. Depending if she was exited/nerves before bed or just plain exhausted.
So what was this about—
Before the gun-swordsman could finished his though Marin gave a cry and jerked upright panting. She looked around franticly, spotted Melan and launched her self at him with another cry and attached herself to his person. Though her voice was muffled as she sobbed into his middle Melan made out that she couldn’t fined him and the monomakia was still after her.
“Marin you must calm down.” He expend his appendages and placed the vestal oval like attachments, that were Melan’s version of hands, on Marin sides.
“But…but the monomakia…it’s still after…you went here. I-I couldn’t find you.” the greed eyed teen looked behind her and then, confused, when she only saw her own room she looked around franticly again.
Melan frowned again, “Marin you are not making sense. There was no other monomakia, I have been here since you fell asleep.”
Marin looked back up at her guardian swallowing, “But… I saw… you weren’t--”
“I have been right here Marin as you slept.” Melan interrupted her firmly as he realized what had just happened, the girl must have had a ‘nightmare’. A dream that was haunted be mental demons.
Marin blinked but didn’t relinquish her hold on Melan as his words slowly sank in, “I was asleep?” she asked at length, eyes still wide and cheeks wet. Melan nodded, watching as realization of what happened crept into green eyes.
“I… I had a nightmare…”
Melan inclined his head again, then blinked as Marin re-glomped his middle. Patiently, he rubbed his appendages up and down Marin’s back and waited for his charge to work out her tears and ramblings to eventually calm down. Through her once more muffled words about her nightmare, Melan was able to decipher what had happened in Marin’s dream world. Evidently some very repulsive looking monomakia have ‘attacked’ her and Moe then only here in the park this part must have been influenced by the attack yesterday, Melan thought as she tried to find him. Melan guessed that she woke up just before the imagined monomakia tried to kill her.
It actually didn’t take as long as Melan thought it would for him to reassure Marin and get her to finally sit back up on her bed. Melan shifted so he was sitting cross-legged so his own red eyes were level with Marin’s emerald orbs. Marin shifted and looked down.
“I’m sorry.” She murdered.
“It is not you fault Marin, it is quite all right.” Melan said and when the teenager only looked down and didn’t saw anything he leaned forward slightly staring at her intently tell her eyes met his again and slowly nodded.
“Thank you.” She sighed. Melan’s eyes softened. “M-Melan?”
“Yes Marin?”
Marin bit her lip then took a deep breath, “Can you… will you stay with me please?”
“Of course.”
“Thank you.”
“You are welcome.” Melan said watching the girl lay back down and stare out into space and waited for sleep to come back. When it didn’t come after twenty minutes Marin moved so she could look at Melan, who was still sitting there watching over her. Would he keep the nightmare from coming back? That chance made her scoot down the bed to where her blue armored protected was looking at her curiously.
“Melan?”
“Yes?”
“Is it okay if I hold your hand?”
“I do not mind.” The humanoid monomakia extended an appendage to place on Marin’s hand that was poking out of the blanket. In a rare moment Melan smiled softly as Marin wrapped both her hands around his oval equivalent. Marin remand like that for another few moments, then moved again.
Melan blinked a few times as his charge crawled over the edge of the bed before all but falling into is lap, dragging her blanket with her. As Marin leaned into his chest, wrapping her small arms around his middle as far as they could. The mighty and powerfully warrior that was the gun-swordsman blushed as he carefully wrapped his own arms around her, the sword and gun making a golden cross as he did so. The monomakia used his appendages to shift her a little so he wouldn’t involuntary hurt her with his armor. Marin sighed contentedly and snuggled her self deeper into her guardian’s chest, feeling safe in the protective encirclement of Melan’s arms.
“Thank you…” she whispered in a tiny, sleepy voice.
Above, crimson eyes watched the girl tell her breathing evened out and her grip became slack. Then Melan moved her so she was lying sideways across his lap, limp and all but dead to the world. Melan smiled softly, taking a slow deep breath as he enjoyed the quite, peaceful moment.
“As long as I am here, Marin, you are safe…”
