Chapter 1: Eyes of Jade
Winter wasn't even half way through, and the nights and days would be colder still, before they would once again be warmer again. Anyone that would be living on the streets would have to know better that to sleep out on a night like this. It was could enough to freeze the rain before it touched the ground. However some couldn't escape the cold, a young girl that had lived on the streets for a short time was once again left in the cold.
She huddled behind some old cardboard boxes in a back-ally of some store. Her blue jeans soaked to the knees, the only part of her clothing keeping her warm was the thin deep red shirt she draped over her shoulders. Shriving she placed her head on her shaking knees and began crying, her long black hair blowing wildly in the nights wind.
Slowly she lifted her head as she wiped some of the tears away, her eyes now a mix of red and a deep jade.
From down the ally a bottle fell and smashed on the icy ground. Thinking nothing of the bottle the young girl lowered her face back to her knees, in some attempted to keep it warm.
It had been quite for a moment then a clam male voice asked. 'Aren't you cold?’
Startled the young girl dragged her self across the cold ground trying to run from whoever was trying to talk to her. 'No, no I'm fine' she said standing up dusting the ice off her jeans.
'I don't think you are!' the voice said again.
Turning to face the man she made a tight fist and held it close across her chest. 'Who the hell are you?' she asked tightening her hand.
The man looked at her with a raised eye-brow, 'someone that just wants to help, is that a problem?' he asked.
She looked again, the man stood with a blanket in hand. His clothing looked somewhat old fashioned, and he was dressed in a green velvet over-coat, well that was all she could see of the strange man. His face pale and brown lightly curled hair covered his head. 'I won't bite. Take it, you'll need it more than me' he smiled offering her the blanket.
Lowering her guard she looked at the man. 'You don't look like a social-worker' she paused. 'Who are you?' the girl slowly lowered her fist.
The man laughed, the girl stepped back again. He just might be a social-worker, she thought.
'I'm nothing of the sort' he laughed, 'But I do try and help people that are in need, like your self'. Walking over to the girl he lifted the blanket.
She wanted to run, but her bones felt stiff and unable to move, even just a little. 'I don't need it' she said looking the other way. The blanket was warm and smelt nothing like what the social-worker's blankets, stale and old. No it smelt cozy and new. 'But, thank you' she looked back at the man as she said this.
As he wrapped the blanket around her small shaking body he looked down at her and smiled. 'Don't you think you’re too young to be on the streets' the man asked looking more serous than before.
Shaking the girl looked back at the man. 'Yes, but at this time of year all the shelters are full' taking her eyes away from him she said. 'But I'll be fine. In the morning I'll eat and that should hold me off for the day'
'Then what?'
Falling to the ground she sighed, 'I don't know' her eyes began filling with more tears.
Kneeling down to her level he touched her face, she jumped slightly at the warm touch of his hand. Before she could get a word in, he spoke. 'Your cold, to cold. And you might not last the night' standing he lifted her as well, 'I know you might not wont too, but for the night you can stay with me. At my place, you'll have a bed and its warm'
Thinking for a moment she asked her-self, Stay and freeze or go with a stranger?
'Thank you, um. I don't know your name?' the girl said looking closer at the man.
Laughing he place a hand on her shoulder. 'My names the Doctor, and just the Doctor' he smiled. 'And you would be?'
'Jade'
'Well Miss Jade, off we go. Lets get you nice and warm' the Doctor announced wrapping one arm around her walking her down the ally.
Trying to escape the Doctor she began crying out. 'Hey wait, I never said'
The Doctor's smile grew in size, 'No, but I know you want to'. By now the two were out of the ally and walking down the street.
All around Christmas decorations were hanging from lamp posts and in shop windows. And the white snow on the ground made the small town night look magical.
Suddenly she found her self trusting the Doctor; somehow it was feeling right to walk down the empty streets with this man.
'So?' Jade said on a lighter note. 'Were we going?'
Author Note's: How was that? Hope you like it. It's been a while since I've written anything of Doctor Who and this would have to be my first ever start to finish chapter. YAY for me. I guess that I should also say that Jade and the 8th Doctor are just like Rose and the 9th Doctor. However Jade was written like that way back in 2003 before I knew anything about Rose. And a new Doctor Who.
But apart from that, I had some fun writing this. And Finally I have a finished chapter with Jade and the Doctor.
It didn't turn out the way I wanted it to when I started. But now I do like it, just a little.
Oh and please R&R or my Dalek come and Exterminate you and all you know. It would be nice for my first fic...
