Forgiveness
By Silver Sailor Ganymede
Silence, darkness, pain… and then there was nothing: nothing at all. His soul, if it still existed, was numb, his heart of ice broken into many pieces, never to be mended. There was nothing left now, only the darkness and the cold. Yes it was dark and it was cold, so cold: he had never noticed nor minded this before, but now he felt as though he would die. Yes, he felt so cold that it was as though death had come, and indeed it had, just not for him but for another, for his beloved.
It was then that it truly struck him, that he finally realised; Zoisite had broken through his façade of ice, and thus he had known him better than any other, felt closer to him than any other… alas that he had realised it too late. Love was an emotion forbidden and, in truth, unknown in the Dark Kingdom so why would he have been given any reason to believe he loved Zoisite? But he had, and now Zoisite was gone, gone forever.
The first of the Shitennou, the ice king, there he stood, his head bowed with his eyes misted over as he stood there in silence.
"Forgive me, Zoisite," he whispered, repeating the last words that he had spoken to the fourth king. Yes, those were the last words he had spoken to him and would almost certainly be the last words he would ever speak to him. Even if the Dark Kingdom succeeded and he did not die at Beryl's hand, he doubted that he would ever see Zoisite again either in flesh or in spirit. There was nothing after death he knew that for certain; nothing but darkness that would make even their kingdom seem a place of light.
Kunzite shook his head; he could not mourn; he should not mourn; he could not force himself to lie and say that there was nothing after death. His beautiful little sakura would be in a place full of the beauty and light that he had always loved, so there was no need for this. And yet, if that was the case, why did he feel so empty, so hollow?
He shook his head as the hollowness in his soul spread. Forgiveness… that was all he wanted, the only thing he wish for; forget Metalia, forget the Dark Kingdom; all he wished for was Zoisite's forgiveness. Kunzite sighed for he knew that that would never come. And yet… and yet… and yet he now wished for death to come so that his soul might possibly be reunited with Zoisite's. Yes, death would come to him soon, even if he had to call it to him himself. Soon he would be reunited with the little sakura once more… soon he would have Zoisite's forgiveness. And that was all that he wished for: forgiveness.
