To Love Again
Chapter 1: Heartbreak
Chocolate brown eyes looked around the rooms as the owner double checked to see if everything that she needed was packed and ready to go. The girl turned to look at herself in the mirror. Grabbing her brush, she ran it through her silky black hair until it shined. Looking herself over once more, she nodded at her reflection and grabbed her bag.
“Mom, Souta, Grandpa, I’m leaving!” The dark haired girl said as she ran out the door, her huge yellow backpack on her back. Running over to the Higurashi shrine, she walked in, closed the door behind her and jumped into the well. Blue light surrounded her as she flowed through time to arrive into the feudal era. Once she was at the other side, she threw the backpack through the well’s opening and climbed out. “I should remember not to bring so many things next time. I seriously need to travel light.” She said to herself as she picked up her backpack once more, placing it on her back.
“Okaa-san!” exclaimed a little red fur ball that threw itself at her. Kagome laughed as she hugged her surrogate son. “Hey Shippo. How are you?” Shippo beamed up at her, giving her one of his mischievous smiles. ”I’ve been fine Kagome. I really missed you. The whole time you were gone, Inuyasha was being a pain.” Kagome scowled. “Is that so? Well we’ll just have to see what his problem is, won’t we?” She replied as she gave him one of her own little smiles. ”By the way, Shippo. Are you here alone or are the others with you?” She asked him as her brown eyes met his huge emerald ones.
The kit nodded as he settled himself on her shoulder. “Yeah, I’m alone. Miroku and Sango are at Kaede’s. Inuyasha is off somewhere. He’s been gone a lot recently. He leaves in the morning and comes back in the evening. Today he said that he was going to go get you.” Kagome blinked and looked at him. “Are you sure about that Shippo? He never went to go get me” Shippo nodded once more. “Yes I’m certain.”
Kagome pondered this for a moment then shrugged. Turning to look at him, she smiled and nodded. “Well there’s nothing we can really do about it. We’ll just have to wait for Inuyasha at Kaede’s.” She said as she shifted her backpack a bit and began heading towards the village. Shippo jumped off of her shoulder and smiled. ”I’ll meet you over there.” Kagome smiled. ”Okay. Just be careful, Shippo!” She exclaimed as she watched him go ahead of her.
Kagome walked through the dense forest, her head bowed as she walked back to the village of Edo, lost deep in her thoughts. She was so caught up in the information Shippo had given her that she barely noticed that she was just about to pass the Goshinboku. She stopped and was about to continue on when she sensed two very familiar auras. Seconds later she heard two voices.
She walked behind a bush and watched as Inuyasha embraced Kikyo. ”Kikyo, I love you and I refuse to lose you to Naraku.” Inuyasha said as he kissed her. He was unnerved to find out that Naraku still harbored feelings for Kikyo. Kikyo was his and there was no way he was going to let the retched hanyou have her.
Kikyo stayed put and responded to his kiss. Then she pulled away from his embrace and looked at him. “Is that true, Inuyasha? Do you really love me? Or are you confusing me for my reincarnation?”
Inuyasha embraced her again. “Kagome is nothing to me. My heart belongs to you Kikyo. It always has and it always will. Kagome is nothing more to me than a shard detector. I swear Kikyo. Kagome is nothing more to me than that. Besides why would I want a copy when I have the original?” Kikyo looked into his golden orbs.” Inuyasha…” She hugged him and kissed him.
She couldn’t believe it. Three years had passed since she was with him and all he saw her as was a shard detector. He didn’t even consider her a friend. She had given up everything for him. She sacrificed her education, her happiness, her future, just to be with him and to help him look for the shards. Kagome was so deep in thought, that she made it to Kaede’s without realizing it. She stopped outside and took a few deep breaths, trying to regain her composure.
“I’m back.” She said with false cheerfulness as she walked into Kaede’s home. “ Kagome-chan. Welcome back,” said the handsome black haired houshi. “ It’s good to be back Miroku.” She said as lowered her backpack to the ground and sat down beside the small fire. Shippo ran to her and sat on her lap. ”What took you so long Kagome” he asked as he looked up at his mother. Kagome was about to reply when at that precise moment, Inuyasha walked in.
Golden hues turned to looked at Kagome. “When did you get back, Kagome?” Kagome blinked and looked down, she refused to look at him; instead she occupied herself with her backpack. “I got back not to long ago Inuyasha”
He glared at her. ”Feh. Woman what the hell is up with you? You’re acting strange” Kagome looked up at him, her brown eyes burning with anger. ‘Me? Acting strange? The nerve of that guy. He’s the one that’s running back to that clay dead bitch! And behind everyone’s back.’ (A.N. Yes this is what happens when you hang around a foil mouthed hanyou such as Inuyasha.) Her eyes seemed to be burning holes into the hanyou. “Nothing is wrong with me. That question, Inuyasha, is better suited for you. What has gotten into you?”
Inuyasha blinked. He knew that she was mad. Her miko powers sparked and sizzled with it. He stared at her as if she had just turned into an Inuyoukai. ”What the hell are you talking about?” Kagome growled. “Nothing!” She snapped. “Can we get going?” She said as she got up and walked out of the hut, her backpack on her back. Suddenly she ran back in and yelled, ”Inuyasha! SIT!” Inuyasha went plummeting into the ground face first.
Sango, Miroku, and Shippo looked at the hanyou, whose face was in the dirt, to the young miko. “Kagome-chan what’s wrong?” Sango asked as she got up and walked over to her little sister. Kagome, to overwhelmed with her emotions, said nothing. Instead she moved aside to reveal none other then the dead priestess, Kikyo.
