My friend Shannon gave me a CD for my Birthday last month and when I heard this song I thought of Sango and Miroku.
Disclaimer: I don’t own InuYasha or “Nothing Better” by the Postal Service.
-.-.-.-.-.-
She was sick of him, tired of his foolish ways. With tears in her eyes she was unable to calm down and prevent herself from beating him. He was flirting again, asking other women if she’d bear him a child. She’d already agreed to it so why couldn’t he stop asking others? Didn’t he know how much it tore her up inside!
Miroku sat on the fresh green grass, his hand frozen on his aching head, his eyes wide, “W-what did you just say?”
Sango couldn’t meet his cobalt gaze, her own of hazel fixated on the sunset. She took a deep breath and sighed, “I said I’m going for good.” She started walking away, her knees wanting to collapse beneath her. She didn’t want to go, she really didn’t, but she couldn’t take the heart ache any longer. She’d fight Naraku and get Kohaku back on her own if she had to. The houshi’s voice drifted over to her, he was singing. Undoubtedly a song from Kagome’s time considering she didn’t recognize some of the words.
“Will someone please call a surgeon who can crack my ribs and repair this broken heart that you’re deserting for better company? I can’t accept that it’s over. I will block the door like a goalie tending the net in the third quarter of a tied-game rivalry…”
Maybe if he’d actually come after her, stopped her in her path rather then singing plagiarized words, she would’ve listened to him.
“Sango-”
She rounded on him, finding him about to follow after, “Shut up! I don’t want your excuses anymore!”
“But-”
“No! Just leave me alone!”
She went to leave again only to have him rush forward to grab her hand. Before she could pull away and slap him he spoke, “So just tell me how to make it right and I swear I’ll do my best to comply.” Sango was rooted on the spot. She’s accidentally met his eyes and she couldn’t look away. He was trapping her again, tricking her heart into believing she could trust him. He next set of words nearly persuaded her to forgive him,
“Tell me am I right to think that there could be nothing better than making you my bride and slowly growing old together?”
“Houshi-sama!” A girl from the local village yelled, her high pitched voice making Sango’s ears want to bleed. Both turned to find the monk’s admirer rushing up the hill towards them. His hold on Sango was lost and she ripped herself away from him.
“I feel I must interject here. You’re getting carried away feeling sorry for yourself with these revisions, gaps in history,” She glared at the young woman who had now realized Miroku was busy and then returned her attention to him, “So let me help you remember. I’ve made charts and graphs that should finally make it clear. I’ve prepared a lecture on why I have to leave.” She no long felt the need to cry, anger replacing her sorrow, “So please back away and let me go.”
“I can’t my darling I love you so…” She closed her ears pretending not to hear him. He chased after the taijiya as she started to run from him. She was fast; he’d give her that, but what about her endurance? How long could she flee before turning to confront him again? He tried the sweet talk that had almost snagged her back into his keep when that villager had interfered,
“Tell me am I right to think that there could be nothing better than making you my bride and slowly growing old together?”
This got her to cease her hurried footsteps, and she faced him. How dare he say such a thing after hurting her so many times, “Don’t you feed me lines about some idealistic future!” Her voice was cold, betraying the emotions that stirred in her chest. “Kirara!”
No more then two seconds passed till the fire cat leapt out onto the path, morphing into her larger form. Sango climbed up onto her back, shooting Miroku a glare, “You’re heart won’t heal right if you keep tearing out the sutures.”
“No, Sango, don’t!” He knew she was about to order her feline companion to fly, but he couldn’t stand to see her leave. Especially not because of him, “I admit that I have made mistakes and I swear I’ll never wrong you again!”
The truth in his desperate voice actually made her smile, if only a little. But it wasn’t enough, that truth had come far too late, “You’ve got a lure I can’t deny,” she felt the tears begin to swell, blurring her vision yet again, “But you’ve had your chance so say good-bye.” Feeling the air rush around her, she knew Kirara had taken to the sky. Laying her head onto the furry neko’s she couldn’t stop herself from letting al her sorrow out, “Say goodbye…” She ran her fingers through the soft of Kirara’s mane, “I didn’t want to say good-bye.” The cat’s meow met her ears, almost as if asking where they were going to go.
“Home.” Wherever you think that may be…

Kagome finished hitting Miroku with her knapsack, her fury dying down. She couldn’t believe he’d let Sango go so easily! InuYasha watched from the corner, torn between laughing and helping in the beating. Finally they let him explain the best he could. He came to the part where she had mentioned the reasons she was going, “She said she had charts and what not,” he rested his head in his arms, trying not to let his spirit fall too low. Yet that was impossible, he felt incomplete without her by him.
How could he have been so stupid! He clenched at his hair in exasperation until Shippo jumped up onto his shoulder, “Miroku,” he pushed a few pieces of paper in-between the houshi’s face and robes, “Is this what you mean by charts?” The kit pointed at the pictures he had drawn overtime, in all of them there was a chibi Sango with flames around her while Miroku flitted around busying himself with impressing other ladies.
He stared in horror at the doodles, knowing each one was true. How blind have I been?
A large shadow cast over the shouji doors making them look up. Kagome, being the only one still standing, opened it up, “Ah! Kirara!”
Miroku sat up quickly rushing to the door, panic gripping his consciousness. What was Kirara doing back without Sango? Had something happened to her! He pushed past the miko his eyes wide. The relief that flooded his soul upon seeing his dear taijiya merely asleep on the neko’s back made him the happiest guy in the world…
An hour later Miroku sat alone next to the sleeping brown haired young woman, regretting now more than ever all he’d put her though. He prayed to Buddha she’d forgive him and that they could start over with a new slate. He was determined to prove his love, even if he had to get on his knees and beg.
His eyes lifted from the floor as Sango began to move, lifting herself from the futon, and opening her eyes. Their gazes locked for a moment but the monk jumped up, running to the door to shut it and block her from escaping until he could apologize, “Sango, I’m truly sorry for what I’ve done to you, but please I know now I can’t live without your guidance.” He continued to stand there feeling quite awkward when she started smiling without saying a word. “Am I forgiven?”
Sango nodded, “Yes, so long as you don’t touch another woman ever again.”
He went speedily to her side, taking her hands into his own, “I swear I never will! Just please don’t ever force us to say good-bye.”
Seeing him willing to do anything for the sake of being with her made Sango’s heart warm, Maybe I should’ve run away a while ago, she joked in her mind. Pulling her hands away she leaned her head against his shoulder, wrapping her arms around his torso.
She’d told Kirara to bring her home, and even the cat knew this was where she belonged. Traveling with friends, hunting down Naraku, searching for her brother, in the arms of the man she loved…
Miroku held Sango closer, not yet ready to break their embrace. That’s when curiosity got the better of him, “What made you forgive me?”
She closed her eyes, thinking about it. Other than the demands of her own soul, and Kirara’s help, there was another factor, “You see,” she laughed at her own hypocritical words, “When I feel asleep I had the most wonderful dream about some idealist future.”

See it’s a happy ending! I hope you liked it. Now for the approval of Kera Sheden… I’ll go get her from upstairs now.
SY300: Well imouto, what do you think?
KS: Well, it’s very interesting. For a YYH fan, I’d say your second attempt on a Sango/Miroku fic was not in vain. Well done, Ane-ue!
SY300: Thanks for reading!
