Chapter One: Message From an Angel
Dita found herself staring into her cup of coffee, her eyes drifting from thought to thought. Feeling her mind lose control of what was reality and fantasy, she felt a surge of guilt run through her veins.
“Hey, Dita. How’s it going” said a familiar voice. Dita didn’t bother to look up, for the voice was coming from her co-worker who also happened to be her best friend. Dita caressed the outer rim of her cup as she knew what was coming next.
“You’re thinking about him again, are you?” said her co-worker. Dita had heard this million of times and she would repeatedly answer with a simple “yes” or “no”. But this time, something within her began to stir, first it began very slowly. Making her unsure of what to say, to immediately feeling a distressed emotion. Tears fell from her clear blue eyes.
“Nadia, I... miss him. So much. At first, I knew even though we were apart nothing would come between us. Now, I don’t feel anything anymore. I miss my babies, I miss being a mother..” Dita sobbed quietly. Her crimson bangs fell loosely in front of her eyes, keeping the sight of her eyes concealed. She rolled her fingers into a fist and pressed them against the café table in which she sat. Nadia lifted her hand to make an attempt to place it on Dita’s shoulder but was shocked when she realized it was suddenly pushed away.
“Don’t. I’m tired of people feeling sympathy for me.” Dita said in a rough yet soft voice. “I don’t know what’s right anymore.”
“Dita, you don’t have to put yourself through this. Move on.” she said,
“I CAN’T!” she bellowed. “I can’t forget about him...”
“Why? You won’t be able to see him. Do you know the odds of him coming to see you?” Nadia retorted. “Why do you continue to hope? It’s been two years since I heard you say anything different. Is he that important?”
“Yes, YES. I love him! I love him to death! I won’t have it any other way! I refuse to doubt him! I’ll die before I go with anyone else!” she bellowed. It wasn’t until Dita cooled off that she realized she was standing up pointing at her closest friend who at the most didn’t fit the description.
Dita stormed out of the café in extreme fury, her tote bag swinging carelessly behind her. She took a quick glance at her watch and realized she was late to work, but she didn’t care. She wanted Hibiki.
Hibiki stood motionless on the navigation deck, his eyes gazing into the dark abyss. His hands were placed behind his back as he held his chest out. He hadn’t slept in four days, he knew she was still out there. That she wasn’t dead, she was still alive. He pondered on this for several more minutes until he felt a small tug on his arm cuff.
“Watcha doing, daddy?” asked Hibiki’s young daughter.
“Nothing, Anita. Where’s your brother?” he asked in a whisper. The young child thought for a moment.
“He’s with Ms. Jura” she said.
Hibiki froze as he gazed upon his daughters face, how much it resembled Dita and how her personality reflected off this young girl. Anita had flowing crimson hair and sparkling blue eyes. Like her mother, she was often optimistic and naive.
Without warning, Meia ran into the navigation deck panting for air.
“What is it?” Hibiki asked.
Meia held onto a nearby station as she grasped her chest for air.
“It’s ... Dita” she panted
“What?” Hibiki retorted. Hibiki looked down at his daughter, the young girl never knew her mother and was not aware that her name was Dita. “Anita, go find your brother and stay with Jura”
Anita nodded and ran off.
“What about her?” he continued.
“The Pecksis, it knows where she is. It’s sending an encryption. Part of it says ‘Origin 2'” she said.
“Origin 2?”
“A galaxy, captain. And we’re right next to that galaxy”
“How do you know she’s there?”
“The word Origin was scrambled, it also had another word scrambled with it.”
“And what was this word?”
“Dita”
