TRILOGY OF DESTINY
Book I
The Legend of Zelda: Runes of Space
Prologue
Countless centuries ago the world was discovered by beings of vast power, who were known as gods. The various deities either separated into groups or went off alone and each one laid claim to a portion of the world to use as their own. Each had their own desires and purposes, but each also avoided the territories that did not belong to them for all knew that a war between gods would have no positive result.
It was this knowledge that led to the unique situation of the last portion of the world. After all the other gods had made their claims three golden sisters and four giant brothers discovered that their was only one country left for ownership. Instead of pointless fighting, the two sets of divine siblings decided upon a way to share. Using their powers they successfully created a rip in time and space across their land. This rip allowed two countries to coexist in the same space and time without actually imposing on each other. Now the three sisters could claim one version of the country while the four brothers developed another. They hid the link between the worlds in a cursed forest they created together that would exist within the dimensional tear and would prevent citizens of their countries from easily wandering between the dimensions.
The three golden goddesses proceeded to forge a land they named Hyrule, which would be ruled by power, wisdom and courage. They left the Triforce, a physical portion of their own energy, within a pocket dimension in their land, which was created when they left the world and ascended back in to the heavens. The Triforce was a force not meant for mortals to wield so the entrance to it's sacred realm was sealed within a temple by the power of a magical instrument and three sacred stones by the seven sages, mortals chosen by the goddesses to protect their country.
The four giants built a land based on balance, where all existed in set portions and events in one area would affect another. Here they lived among the people who came to live there and even made close friends, but one day they realized that they would lose their divinity if they remained in the mortal realm much longer. Regretfully they left their land and retreated to the heavenly realms in the four corners of their beloved Termina. The entrances to their divine dwellings were guarded by temples erected by their followers, who became responsible for the guarding and maintenance of the giants' legacy. Before they disappeared from the country they loved they left with the people a song. When combined with a magical instrument, the song would open the heavenly gates and allow them to temporarily return in times of great need.
Although Hyrule and Termina existed in the same place neither one's inhabitants were aware of the other. The maze-like deep forest and it's cursed pathways kept people from crossing over just as the gods had wanted. However, the two countries continued to affect each other in unseen ways. Since the people came from the same place it was common for a citizen in Hyrule to be identical to one or even more in Termina and vice versa. Another connection would be that the atmosphere of one would be connected to the other. If one was engulfed in war or ruled by evil, so would the other. If one was in a state of peace then the other would follow. This was because the spirit of the citizens came from the same source and tended to follow the same pattern. The greatest connection would be their own existence, for if one land was to be destroyed then it's parallel self could not go on either.
The two 'worlds' existed in blissful ignorance of each other for centuries and the gods were pleased that their plan had succeeded. Hyrule's various races united under a system of monarchy. Although disputes raged throughout the years it eventually became united under one ruling family. In Termina the people united under religion after the gods left the realm. The Order of Light taught the spirit of purity and justice to the people and kept the world in peace despite a few religious wars caused by those with evil spirits. Eventually the political situation of both countries became stable and the people were happy.
Unfortunately, the gods were aware that some day their creations would be faced with great peril because of the power they had left within it and the evil nature of mortal minds. As a failsafe they created a force called 'Destiny'. This force would one day seek out a champion in a time of need and grant them the grace of the gods to aid them in the rescue of the land.
In the land of Hyrule the gods granted the power of Time to it's champion and one fateful day Destiny made it's choice. A baby born of Hylian descent was caught up in the flames of a territorial war and was placed in the care of a guardian spirit. The boy named Link would eventually grow up to meet the Princess of Destiny and together they faced a great evil. The powers of the Triforce were scattered between these three beings and Hyrule was overtaken by evil. The citizens of Hyrule, however, were not foolish enough to create none of their own defences.
Centuries ago, mortals who aspired to serve the gods were granted the title of Sage and together they governed over the various elemental forces that built Hyrule. Together they forged the Blade of Evil's Bane, to be wielded by a hero. As time passed the sword would eventually be claimed by Link, who would gain the power to cross time itself in addition to possessing the Triforce of Courage. Combining the power of the seven reborn Sages and the god's chosen Hero of Time allowed the forces of good to seal away the evil being and restore Hyrule to it's previously peaceful state.
Though this legend is known by many, there is another that is not. Hyrule and Termina are connected by the force of Destiny and so are the heroes it chooses.
In another space, at the same time, Termina's champion was born.
A world changing war would engulfed the land just as one did to Hyrule and both had to be saved.
Is the tale forgotten because the hero died? Is it forgotten because of a cover up like the Hero of Time's? What grace was given to the champion chosen by the four giant brothers?
The answers to these questions are embedded in legend.
