He'd sooner choke than admit it, but Kouryuu doesn't mind sweeping the temple grounds. It's a quiet and rhythmic activity; plus, the monks don't bother him when he works.

"River rat,"

Usually.

"That's all you are," Looming above Kouryuu, a monk sneers. "A rat. Eating our rice and taking advantage of Master Sanzo's pity."

Silence. Swish, swish, swish…

"This isn't your home."

Kouryuu, pausing, thinks of dark rivers and a man embodying light. Thinks that home isn't a place, but a person. He glares.

"Are you gonna move, or shall I sweep you up with the rest of the trash?"
