I've been on an O'Brian binge lately, andI just finished watching Master and Commander again. That made me remember that this poem (quite a few months old now) is actually fanfiction, a tribute to that captain of captains, Lucky Jack Aubrey, played with great magnificence by Russell Crowe.
From his post he may see it all
the firing and the flood
of smoke and splinters, sobs and screams,
and decking red with blood.
But never does his post he move
his orders never cease-
His fervant yelling in the fray
may bring us all some peace.
Let's raise a glass to Captain Jack,
our master fine and proud.
May not his years be numbered-
May he never see his shroud!
