Chapter: Pichu
''Holy God, Kiara,'' said Hikaru. ''Don't go back to sleep!''
''Whut?'' the girl mumbled groggily.
''We were s'posed to be at the lab at eight! It's now ten-thirty! So get up and get your ass into gear!''
''I will when I want to!''
Hikaru grabbed Kiara's wrist and pulled her out of her bed.
''Good morning,'' said Professor Oak as Hikaru came into the lab dragging Kiara behind him. ''You're late.''
''Sorry,'' said Hikaru. ''Sleeping Beauty here overslept.''
''No I didn't!'' Kiara retorted sharply. ''I just...sorta forgot...''
''Oh, well,'' Prof. Oak started, ''I guess it doesn't really matter. So you're here for your pokemon? This way then. One question first: Kiara, do you plan on training Pokemon in your nightgown?''
Kiara looked at herself and blushed. ''Maybeee...'' she muttered. Then she and Hikaru burst out laughing.
''Was... Ketchup here... already?'' Kiara asked Prof. Oak in between laughs.
"Yes, Ash and Kelly were one of the later ones here. Even though they came before you...''
''Who's Kelly?'' (A/N: Kelly belongs to my wonderful friend. Steal her character, and you'll feel her wrath.)
''Kelly is Ash's friend. She's a pokemorph, too. She came here from America.''
''Oh, yeah!'' Kiara exclaimed. ''Now I remember. I've heard about her... wait... where's America?''
Prof. Oak shook his head. ''Um, across the ocean.''
''Oh, okay! I remember now!"
''You can't even remember what you had for breakfast, fool,'' Hikaru mumbled. Kiara whacked him hard upside the head.
''Thanks to you, I didn't even have breakfast!'' she shouted. Prof. Oak sighed and motioned the two kids to follow him.
''There was a pokeball in there that held a Pikachu,'' said Prof. Oak. ''Ash took that pokemon. The pokemon I'm going to give you is that Pikachu's younger brother.'' He handed Kiara a pokeball that had a small black thunderbolt on the front. Kiara let out the pokemon.
''Pichu!'' the pokemon exclaimed. It was much smaller than Pikachu, but it looked similiar.
''KAWAII!'' Kiara cried out. The little mouse pokemon jumped on her shoulder and licked her cheek.
''You'll stay out of your pokeball, okay?'' Kiara asked. The pokemon nodded happily.
''My studies show that it's the pre-evolved form of a Pikachu,'' Prof. Oak explained, ''I believe that it originated in a region called Johto and that it's name is Pichu.
''Pichu... that's so kawaii!''
''Pi pichu!''
''Hey, Hikaru, What pokemon did you get?''
''A Bulbasaur.''
Then Hikaru grinned. ''Hey, how about a battle?''
Kiara glanced at Prof. Oak.
''Okay, just not in my lab.''
The two kids cheered and ran outside.
''Hehe, Hikaru, I'm gonna kick your ass,'' said Kiara. Hikaru just grinned in response.
Prof. Oak nodded at Kiara's question. Hikaru and Kiara stood facing each other, their pokemon poised and ready for battle. The two kids would get a feel for how it was like to command pokemon and the pokemon would get used battling.
''Let's get started ready steady go!'' Kiara and Hikaru shouted in unison.
Bulbasaur jumped and charged at Pichu.
''Pichu, dodge!''
''Bulbasaur, Razor Leaf!''
Bulbasaur's sharp leaves sliced through the air, colliding into the little mouse. Pichu fell limply to the ground.
''C'mon, get up Pichu!'' Kiara pleaded. She wasn't going to lose that easily, even if they were only just beginners. Pichu staggered up and regained his positioning.
''Thundershock!''
Pichu looked at Kiara and tilted his. Kiara gaped at the little mouse. It still didn't know Thundershock?
Well, this is great, Kiara thought grimly. Now she was wide open for an attack.
''Bulbasaur, Tackle!'' Hikaru commanded.
''Pichu, you too!''
The two pokemon charged at each other. Bulbasaur bowed his head and picked Pichu up effortlessly, throwing him.
All the while, Prof. Oak watched the battle silently. He didn't want to give out hints in the middle of the battle. Because in a real battle, they would have to find their opponents weak spot by themselves.
''Vine Whip!''
Vines lashed out from Bulbasaur's back, smacking Pichu right across the face. Pichu flew back onto the ground and lay there, his energy completely drained. Kiara rushed over to him and cradled the little mouse in her arms.
''Ha, I win,'' Hikaru gloated. ''Your pokemon is as weak as you, you chibi little thing.''
''WHAT?'' Kiara roared, stomping over to Hikaru. ''WHAT DID YOU CALL ME?''
But she couldn't argue though. She had previously turned ten but was still short like her nine-year-old self. Hikaru was eleven and would soon be turning twelve, but either way, he was still much taller than Kiara was now.
And I can't stand it! Kiara screamed mentally. Yet she refrained herself from kicking the older boy in the shins.
''Please, be careful, honey,'' said Akira, stroking her daughter's auburn hair. ''You're really growing up, aren't you?''
Akira stepped back top observe Kiara. The girl wore a dark blue tank-top with a light blue broken heart in the middle, a red skirt with a black belt, white sneakers with matching leg warmers, and black wrist warmers. Akira wrapped a thin red scarf around Kiara's neck.
''Hmm? What's this for?'' Kiara asked, lifting up the scarf.
''Well, it get's cold at night, doesn't it?'' Akira smiled. ''Plus, it matches your skirt!''
Kiara nearly gagged.
Chansey popped through the doorway. ''Chansi?''
Kiara knelt down in front of the pokemon. She had known her ever since she was little. ''Help mom around the house will ya?''
''Chansi! Chan chan chansi chan!'' I will! And make sure to grow on your adventures!
''WHAT?'' Kiara screamed at Chansey as her mom walked into the kitchen blowing her nose into a tissue.
I can't be that short, can I? Ah, I'll get taller sooner or later... In, like, maybe a year or two, she finished grimly.
She finally reached Hikaru's house and knocked on the door. She heard a crashing sound come from inside. The door swung open and Hikaru bounded out of it wearing his usual pair of black jeans and t-shirt. He swooped down while still running and lifted his backpack from the doorstep and onto his shoulders.
''Haha, gomen, ma! Later!''
''Bye!'' Kiara shouted to Hikaru's mom. She stood on the doorstep, waving.
''Good luck!'' she called after them.
''What happened in there?'' Kiara asked as she caught up with her best friend.
''I broke a vase on my way out.''
''Ahahahaa!''
Kiara and Hikaru kept on running uphill with Pichu speeding next to them, leaving Pallet Town behind them. Kiara stumbled and nearly lost her balance. Hikaru laughed at her but then tripped himself, falling flat on his face. He picked himself up and caught up with Kiara while she stuck out her tongue. When the two finally reached the top of the hill they stopped for a brief moment to survey their surroundings. In front of them their path stretched far into the grassy plains. Farther on, the path split in two. That would be where Kiara and Hikaru would split up. They sprinted down the road until they reached the fork.
''Hey look, a fork in the road,'' said Kiara, pointing up at the two paths.
''I can see that,'' said Hikaru. ''I'm not blind.''
''No,'' said Kiara, shaking her head. ''Seriously, a fork in the road.''
A silver fork was lying smack in the middle of the road.
''Well, what do you know...'' said Hikaru, rubbing the back of his head, clearly shocked. Okay, this was queer. A few moments of silence passed as the two of them pondered. Hikaru picked it up and threw it to the side. Then he turned to face Kiara.
''Your mom... told me to watch after you. But I think you'll be fine by yourself, won't you?''
Kiara smiled. ''I'm glad you trust me enough to let me go by myself.''
''I can't hold you back, you know that,'' said Hikaru, grinning and tilting his head to one side making his chocolate brown spikes sway.
''We'll see each other soon. I want a rematch.''
''I'll be happy to give it to you. Break a leg!''
''Love to.''
Kiara waved and sprinted down the left road while Hikaru raced along the right side.
''Kokode tachidomaruyouna jikan wa naisa!'' Kiara shouted as the two roads began to stretch away from each other.
