Tsubame: I decided to delete my original “Turning Sixteen.” Why? Because I saw Cardcaptor already and there is a lot that I missed. So I took the liberty of redoing it. Please don’t blame me if it was badly written! I only saw two episodes for crying out loud…and beside it is one of my EARLIEST fanfics. I actually wrote this, two years ago I think. I was not a member of yet…

Disclaimer: I don’t own Cardcaptor Sakura….

Turning sixteen”

By Tsubame Ongaku

Sakura Kinomoto is your ordinary ten-year old girl. She enjoys sports, cheerleading and hanging out with friends.

…But she also has a duty to capture Clow cards, after opening a mysterious book in her father’s library…

She has a father, Fujitaka who is an archeologist, her mother, Nadesiko who died when she was very young but Sakura felt she was still present and a brother Touya, who is sometimes is a bother but most of the time a great help.

This morning, he was a bother…

“Big brother! You ate up all the pancakes!” Sakura screamed. She was scrambling to get into her rollerblades while hoping towards the dining table at the same time. As always, the girl woke up very late again. Touya LOVED teasing his younger sister especially about her lateness…

“Ohayo! What took you so long anyway, Queen of lateness?” taking a bite of Sakura’s pancakes. Biting very slowly and making sure that Sakura was watching.

Sakura clenched her teeth together. He was so annoying! “Are all college guys like him!” she thought. Then she remembered Yukito and smiled…”No…not all…”

She whined, pounding on the table. “My alarm clock didn’t ring! You can’t really expect that to be my fault!”

He shrugged, grinning widely. “Oh, well. Your loss is my gain, little monster.”

She pouted. For a ten-year old, this was a form of injustice, all because he was older. Why couldn’t she have an older brother somewhat like Yukito-san?

“Then again, I wouldn’t like to have Yukito-san as a brother,” she thought, blushing.

Her father smiled. He was already used to the two fighting like this every morning. It is quite amusing to watch them sometimes. “Don’t worry, Sakura. I have another batch of pancakes ready.”

She smiled. “Thanks, daddy.” She sat down and glared at her older brother. Touya just smiled and continued to eat the pancakes. He was in college and his class doesn’t start until two hours. He just enjoyed annoying her every morning.

Fujitaka chuckled after seeing his daughter’s glare. “You’re welcome, sweetheart.”

Sakura couldn’t wait to get to school. Her class was going on a fieldtrip to the local University, where her brother goes. She and Tomoyo planned to hit two birds with one stone. They planned to do their project at the same time. It was going to be a documentary about College.

Her brother finished. He stood up, picked up his school bag and walked over to her. “So, squirt. Your class is going to have a fieldtrip to my College?” he asked ruffling her hair.

She smiled and nodded. “Yes, you better not embarrass me,” she joked.

“Hey! That should be my line,” he joked back.

She giggled and proceeded to finish the pancakes her father placed in front of her.

Her father drank his coffee as he read the day’s paper. Her brother was talking on his new celphone probably to his bestfriend, Yukito. She felt like pouting again. It wasn’t fair her brother got all the cool stuff. She wasn’t allowed to have a celphone until she’s older.

She sighed. It must be so cool to be a college student.

Her father finished his coffee and glanced at the kitchen wall clock. “Uh, oh. It’s almost eight. You have to get moving.”

“Awww…I’ll never make it to school on time! Even with my rollerblades,” Sakura said miserably. For the nth time in her life she regretted being late.

“How about I drop you off?” he father offered. “I’m on my way to the museum anyway. The curator there says he needs my help on something. I’m dropping off Touya too.”

That cheered her up. “Really, daddy? That would be great!”

He smiled his usual fatherly smile and stood up. “Hurry and eat, Sakura. You wouldn’t want to be late for school, would you? I heard your fieldtr---”

“DONE, DADDY!” she was done before he could turn around.

Touya arched his eyebrow. “So…monster can also eat like a pig?”

“PIG? Who are you calling a pig?” she demanded. “Look in a mirror, would you?”

Fujitaka shook his head and turned to the picture of his beloved wife. He smiled faintly yet sadly now before turning to his children. “Come on, both of you.”

They followed but not without fighting all the way…

Sakura was the first one to be dropped off. The University was on the way to their father’s office.

Her father stepped on the brakes and turned to give his daughter a kiss on the forehead. “We’ll see you later, Sakura.”

“Yeah, see yah, monster.” Touya said, ruffling her hair.

She glared at her brother again. “I’m not a MONSTER!” But she smiled for her dad, “Bye, daddy…you too, big brother.”

“See yah later, monster…” her brother replied grinning wickedly.

When the car disappeared around the curb, Sakura ran to the already ready buses. She still felt annoyed by her brother. The buses were crowded with kids from their grade. Fortunately, Tomoyo Daidouji had already saved her a seat.

“Thanks, Tomoyo,” Sakura said as she thanked and hugged her bestfriend.

“It’s okay. You’re welcome,” she replied as she hugged her back. “Did you really think that I’d allow you, my bestfriend to sit on the floor?”

Sakura looked at her confused. “You mean I would’ve had to sit on the floor?”

“Hey, Sakura,” it was Meiling.

“Hey, Meiling,” she replied, but Meiling’s attention already moved to someone else, a boy just got on the bus.

“Oh, Syaoran! Why don’t you sit here?” she said to the good-looking brown-haired boy.

He frowned but instead sat beside his dark-haired, glasses wearing friend/mortal enemy, Eriol Hiiragizawa. Yes, he would rather suffer a twenty minute ride with his mortal enemy than sit beside Meiling who was for some reason being more clingy than ever.

Sakura felt sorry for Meiling but it was none of her business. Whatever happened between those two was really none of her business. She knew that the two were betrothed. Meiling practically already announced it.

Sakura saw Syaoran as a fellow classmate and Clow cardcaptor. He was kind of quiet and mostly kept to himself. She really didn’t know what to make of him. Sometimes he didn’t seem to care and sometimes he helped her.

Their eyes met for a moment. She smiled but then Syaoran looked away blushing…

She couldn’t understand his reaction so she diverted her attention went back to Tomoyo. “Did you bring the camera?”

Tomoyo laughed. “Do you really have to ask?”

She took her camera which she kept in her bag and then began to video everyone in the bus. Everyone was making faces or flaunting in front of the camera except Syaoran. He was sitting there and frowning. Not that it was unusual though.

Sakura stared at him. He was always so solemn. He was one of those people who always seemed to need coffee to stimulate them. Well, he was still a kid and maybe it is still unhealthy for him to drink coffee…but…well, anyway…didn’t he know how to just enjoy and have fun?

“Oh, Sakura! By the way,” Tomoyo said. “Look here.”

She brought out a bag.

“What is it?”

“Look inside…”

Sakura opened the bag. It was another of Tomoyo’s never ending creations. It was a Chinese style, sleeveless, pink and gold dress with a short skirt. It also had a matching cap, boots and elbow gloves.

“I swear, Tomoyo. Your designs get better and better. Thank you.” She squealed. Tomoyo was always making something for her and videotaping her in it. She didn’t really mind but sometimes she did feel embarrassed by all her bestfriend’s attention.

“It’s no problem. I love doing it,” she replied. Her eyes then began to sparkle a bit as she said, “I can’t wait to video Sakura-chan wear it!”

Sakura laughed awkwardly. “Hoe…”

The buses started to move.

“Hooray!” the children chorused.

Li Syaoran was doing it again. He was staring at Sakura Kinomoto again.

His cheeks turned red at the memory of her looking his way only minutes before.

Why? Why is it that every time he saw her, he blushes like a schoolboy with a crush (which he is…)? He still couldn’t believe that he’d given her permission to call him Syaoran…nobody but family was supposed to do that… but…he really did like her…

“Why, Syaoran. Are you okay?” Eriol said.

He groaned inwardly. He wasn’t really in the mood to talk to Eriol but he shrugged and said. “Of course I am, baka. What makes you think otherwise?”

“You were as red as a tomato a few seconds ago,” he said. He looked over to Sakura. She was smiling and laughing with her friend Tomoyo. He grinned.

The reincarnation of the late Clow Reed didn’t need anymore evidence. Eriol had years of Clow Reed’s memories in his head. He knew the signs…his “cute descendant” had a crush…on Sakura Kinomoto…

Syaoran blushed again. He didn’t like the grin on Eriol’s face one bit… “What’s so funny?”

“It’s Sakura, isn’t it?”

“Sa---Sa---Sakura?” he gulped. “I honestly don’t know what you are talking about, Hiiragizawa.”

“You got a crush on Sakura-chan, don’t you?” he teased.

“Quiet! I don’t!”

“Yes, you do…”

“No! I don’t!”

“Of course you do, I’m not blind.”

“Not blind? You wear glasses…maybe you need new prescriptions, Hiiragizawa. You’re seeing things…”

“I can see very clearly.”

“You don’t know what you are talking about.”

Eriol looked at him innocently, “Really? I don’t?”

Sakura noticed Eriol and Syaoran debating about something. Whatever it was they took it very seriously. She brought her attention back to their video. Most of them in the class had older siblings in college like Sakura. It was no secret they were curious what their brothers and sisters do in their school.

They arrived at the University in no time. They were greeted at the entrance by the high school principal, Mr. Kanzaki.

“Welcome, children,” the dignified old man said. He had been the principal in that school for more than three decades. Though he may seem weak from age, his eyes were twinkling with mischief and warmth.

The class gathered around. “Good Morning, Principal Kanzaki.”

The principal gestured to the front doors of the school. “Come in, come in.”

Tomoyo’s camera was already up and running.

As soon as the kids stepped into the double doors of the school, they Universityworld was so different from theirs. There were lockers slamming, students bustling, others were sharing the latest scoop and others were already running to their respective classrooms.

“Wow! Everyone is so…busy,” Sakura exclaimed.

She suddenly felt large hands cover her eyes.

“Surprise, surprise…”

“Big brother!” she said, jumping into his arms. She hadn’t expected to see him so early.

Another fair haired boy was beside him. He was smiling as he waved to them. “Ohayo, Sakura-chan.”

Sakura blushed. It was her older brother’s bestfriend, Yukito Tsukishiro. She has liked him for a long time. He was sweet, nice, smart, great, gentlemanly,handsome...she runs out of adjectives just describing could never seem to…say how she really felt about him.

“O—ohayo, Yukito-san,” she said, trying to hide the nervousness in her voice.

“Nice to see you too, little monster.”

“I’m not a monster! And I thought you had class.”

“I do…” he replied, shrugging. “…and the bell will ring in…5,4,3,2,1…”

KKKRRRIIINNNGGG!

“That’s the bell…see you later. You too Tomoyo,” he said, ruffling Sakura’s head one last time then began to run to his classroom. “Oi, Yuki. We’re going to be late!”

Yukito was about to follow him but not before giving Sakura a little pat on the head. “Take care, Sakura and you too Tomoyo,” he said. “Why don’t you eat lunch with us later?”

Tomoyo smiled and nodded. Sakura was jumping and nodding her head. “Hurray! Yes! Yukito-san.”

He chuckled and ran towards the direction Touya had ran to earlier and then waved a goodbye.

Tomoyo, who was as usual capturing every moment with Sakura in her camera, just waved to him. She knew Sakura liked him and she wanted to capture Sakura’s blushing moments on camera.

Well, she got what she wanted. Sakura was blushing. “Bye!” Sakura called out but he was already buried in the sea of other students.
