Chapter 5: Caught yah! Or did we?

The second the clock read 4:30, the school bell rang and students came bustling out. It as so crowded and the one would be in danger of losing the other. Sakura was not used to the heavy traffic of the college halls. She felt not only worry but fear; fear of getting lost in the sea of students.

Syaoran had the same fear too. He didn’t want to lose Sakura. He told her the first idea that came to mind. “Sakura, grab my hand again. That way, we don’t separate.” He reached out one hand towards her.

“Okay,” she agreed and grabbed his hand. She held on tight, feeling grateful and more secured. “Thank you, Syaoran-kun,” she said, smiling ever so sweetly.

Syaoran blushed and tried to shrug it off. He squeezed her hand reassuringly though. “Don’t worry, Sakura. I won’t let anything happen to you.”

It is my duty to inform you that when two children hold hands, it is cute and adorable. The innocence and sweetness can make any fangirl squeal. Have you ever seen two teenagers, one girl and one boy, hold hands? What is the first thing that comes to your mind? The point here is that... being teenagers send very different signals to people than when they were kids.

Nearby, people were whispering but the two took no heed. They don’t understand what they were saying half the time. They were really doing nothing wrong. But, there were really no escaping curious eyes and wagging tongues.

I wonder if the two of them are a couple?”

How long had they been together?”

What’s a girl like her doing with a guy like him?”

What’s a guy like that doing with a girl like her?”

That girl is cute enough to be a model.”

That guy is hot enough to be an actor.”

And so on and so forth…

Sakura and Syaoran stopped in front of the empty classroom, which the weeping Meiling was occupying. Earlier, Syaoran had to hide her there. Meiling didn’t like being turned into a teenager. She was not ready to be grown up, then again…who was? Syaoran didn’t expecting to develop hormones in mere seconds.

“Sakura, stay here for a while. I’m going to check on Meiling,” he said, hesitantly letting go of her hand. Syaoran wasn’t sure if she would be safe alone outside but he didn’t want her to watch Meling cry inside.

Sakura gave him a big, reassuring smile “Sure but hurry. We don’t know what mischief that card will do.”

He nodded. But he still hesitated leaving her. “Sakura, if you ever come across trouble, just call. I promised your brother that I’d protect you and I will. Don’t forget that.”

Meiling was still at it. She sobbed big crocodile tears.

“Syaoran, did you find it? Did you find the card now?” she cried out, hopefully. “I can’t go home like this!”

Syaoran sighed. “Meiling, I understand because I can’t go home looking like this too.” He patted her back. “ Pull yourself back together. You’re not acting like a Li”

“But look at me!” she whined. “I’m not even wearing the right clothes! I’m wearing an elementary school uniform!” she sniffed. “I should be wearing something like Sakura at least.”

He couldn’t say he disagreed with her when he actually did. Sakura always looked cute. Clothes and age had nothing to do with it. Wait! Where had that come from? He shook his head. He was not thinking straight. Maybe it’s these teenage hormones were getting in the way of my reasoning…

He blushed. He had to stop thinking of Sakura in that way or he’ll never be ten again. He couldn’t stop thinking about how adorable she looked.

Meiling had unfortunately noticed. She stopped sobbing and watched her fiancé’s flushed face. “You’ve always liked Sakura, Syaoran.” She turned her head away. “We both saw how beautiful she was. So don’t lie to me about not feeling anything.”

Syaoran was silent. There was no point in lying but he didn’t want to admit to it either. “I’m going to leave you here for a while. Don’t go anywhere.” He opened the classroom door. “Sakura and I will catch that card soon.”

Meiling nodded and sat quietly on a desk. She had always been insecure of Sakura Kinomoto. Sakura was taking her fiancé away from her and she didn’t even know it. At least, Meiling suspects that she didn’t. Meiling could see that the wise and powerful girl was naïve when it came to things like these.

“I’ll come back. I promise,” Syaoran tried to assure her. “Just stay put.” He quietly left the classroom, leaving Meiling to herself again.

Syaoran found Sakura on the spot where he left her. Like what she’d promised, she didn’t leave but with one little difference. She wasn’t alone anymore…

“Hey, Sara. What do you say about going out with me Saturday night?” A handsome blonde senior said, his fingers on Sakura’s chin. “You sure are pretty.”

Syaoran wanted to snap his neck in two. His face was getting too dangerously close to Sakura. That was not all. He wanted to shave every strand of golden hair from his head. The guy might be a bit bigger than him but Syaoran had years of Martial Arts training to his advantage. The blonde couldn’t stand a chance.

Sakura was looking uncomfortable. She felt trapped being up against a wall and hated the fact that he was touching her. She didn’t want him to touch her. He was getting too close for comfort. “Where are you, Syaoran-kun?” she thought. She chuckled nervously before saying, “I’m sorry but I’m…”

“What she’s trying to say, whoever you are, is that she’s with me.” She heard somebody snarl.

“Syaoran-kun!” she cried out in relief but she changed her mind, seeing the angry look on his face. Sakura had never seen him like that. He looked too scary. “Syaoran-kun, are you okay?”

The guy turned to Syaoran and smirked. “Oh, yeah? Who are you to her? Her boyfriend?”

Syaoran knew the guy was challenging him and he wasn’t about to back down. “I’ll show him,” he thought. He pushed the senior roughly away from Sakura and stroked Sakura’s cheek with his hand.

“Syaoran-kun? What are you doing?” Sakura gasped.

“Sakura-chan, please trust me,” He whispered to her before kissing her softly on the lips to Sakura’s embarrassment. “Was he bothering you, honey?”

Instead of replying, she turned bright red at the endearment. What in the world was Syaoran thinking?

The blonde watched them in shock. He had not expected the guy to call his bluff and the girl never even mentioned that she was spoken for.

“Let’s get going,” Syaoran whispered to her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. It was a sign of possession. “If you excuse us, we have to get going.”

She nodded and followed him, a bit surprised and confused but not to mention angry. Syaoran had a lot of explaining to do. Unfortunately, she had to wait until they were alone. There were too many people around.

Before they turned around the corridor Syaoran decide to leave a little message. “Oh, and don’t bother my girlfriend again, okay?”

He just nodded. The two made their way to the field.

On the way to the track field, Sakura suddenly stopped.

“Sakura, why’d you stop?” Syaoran asked. Sakura didn’t reply. “Sakura--“

Suddenly, Syaoran saw her clench her teeth and then suddenly… SLAP

“OUCH, that hurt!” he cried out. “What was that for? Is that any way to say thank you for saving you just now?”

But she wasn’t listening. “I can’t believe you! You stole my first kiss! My brother is going to kill you!” she snapped. “ And this morning I was worried my BROTHER would embarrass me. That was humiliating. I got my first kiss at ten years old!”

He shrugged. “May I remind you that you’re sixteen now? Your brother told me to watch you. What’s the best way to protect a girl than to show everyone she’s taken?”

“I don’t think that’s what my brother meant by protecting me. When my brother hears about that, he is so going to kill you!” She wanted to slap him again but he was ready for her this time. He grabbed her hand and pulled her closer to him. “Let me go!”

“Just calm down, will you?” he told her.

“No!” She said back. “My brother is really going to kill you!”

“I’m not worried about that now,” he muttered. “ I’m more worried about the Age card. We still have no idea where to start.”

She frowned. He was right. This was no time to worry about that kiss. She’ll worry about that later. “Well, you should be worried on what he’ll do to you. He’s not going to like this. Just you wait!”

“In the mean time, let’s do our jobs and catch that card, okay by you?” Syaoran let go of her.

Sakura nodded. She knew she was acting like a child. She had a job to do catching that card. It was going to cause a lot more trouble if they let it go for long.

They got a surprise when they got to the field. Everyone had turned into kids. From varsity players, cheerleaders and waterboys, all of them were kids. The boys were pulling pranks on the girls and the girls were crying about soiled dresses and toys. In other words, the field was in utter chaos.

“What happened here?” Sakura groaned, as she watched the chaos that was happening. Not a grown-up in sight to keep the kids under control.

“Looks like a work of the Clow card,” Syaoran sighed. “We are too late.”

“Oh, no. This is bad.” She looked around, looking for a familiar face. “ I have to get to my brother!”

“Looking for me?” a little boy voice said.

Syaoran and Sakura looked down to find a boy of ten years old and looked undoubtedly like…

“Big brother?” Sakura squeaked.

Little Touya smiled faintly. “Looks like you arrived here a tad bit late, little monster.” He shook his head as he folded his arms in front of him. “That card got here first.”

At first Sakura just stared at him with openmouthed surprise. Touya was wearing his sports jersey and his hair was disarrayed but what made him truly adorable were his big childlike eyes and the fact that he was only half her size now. All of a sudden Sakura squealed giddily and ran to trap her nor tiny brother in a bear hug. “So cute!” Touya struggled but somehow Sakura’s grip was like that of a real bear. “Big brother, you are so cute! Can’t you just stay like this?”

“Thank you for the offer, monster, but I’d rather go back to my real age,” he muttered. “Would you please let go of me? Or else I’ll tell Dad who broke the vase last weekend.”

Sakura sighed before letting go, but then she ruffled his hair the same way he ruffled hers when she was ten.

Touya frowned at the little brother treatment. “What is this? Some kind of payback?”

Sakura giggled. “Maybe.” She ruffled his hair again. “Then again…maybe I just think you look so adorable.”

Touya felt his cell phone vibrate in his pocket. He looked at the name and smirked before handing it to Sakura. “It’s for you. You have to tell that plushie to stop calling you from my phone.”

She looked at him confused but answered it anyway. “Hello? Sakura here.”

“Hey, Sakura. It’s me.” A familiar voice said.

“Kero-chan?” Sakura did not expect him to call.

“How is the card catching doing?” Kero innocently asked, annoying Sakura more.

She groaned. “Uh… that card just turned the whole college varsity into little kids. Why?”

Keroberos laughed nervously. “Oh.”

“Is there anything else you want to know, Kero-chan?” She said, sarcastically.

“Ummm…no. I gotta go!” Quickly, the small toy-like creature hung up. Sakura handed the phone back to her brother, who stared at her, looking neither surprised or anything.

“Who was it?” Syaoran asked, though he already suspected who it might be.

“Kero-chan,” she shrugged. He had nothing much to say anyway. Suddenly, they heard a little girl screamed and the trio turned to the chaos before them. “I have a feeling that we have to catch that card soon though.”

“I see,” Touya said, closing his eyes. “I’ll help you. I don’t think that we’re going to do much training now that everyone turned into kids.”

Sakura smiled, grateful for the help her brother was offering. “Big brother, is it still here?”

He shook his head. “I don’t think so.” He looked around. “It did what it was supposed to do. I’d say it’s long gone by now.” He shrugged. “I’m sorry, sport.”

Sakura couldn’t really believe that her brother was still treating her like a kid even at that state. She just chose to ignore it. “We’ll just have to keep looking.”

“At this rate, everything will become topsy-turvy by tonight.” Touya pointed out. “The kids will become teens and the teens will…”

“…Become kids. I know,” Sakura finished for him. “That’s why we have to find it before we have to go home by 6:00 or else we’ll have a lot of explaining to do when we get home.” Suddenly, she squealed. “Big brother, where is Yukito-san?”

Toya shrugged. “I think he’s in a club meeting or something.”

“Do you think he turned into a kid again?” she squealed. “I want to see! I want to see, Yukito-san as a kid!”

Syaoran watched her with a frown. Sakura was acting like a fangirl and Syaoran didn’t like it one bit. It made her seem like any other girl. But he also keeps remembering how much Sakura liked Yukito and it gave him a strange feeling at the pit of his stomach.

“Was this jealousy?” he thought. He shook his head, furiously.

They entered back into the school building. Everything was in utter chaos. Children screaming, books flying, teachers trying to maintain order but failing miserably due to the increasing number of little kids.

“Where are all these kids coming from?” One teacher screamed. “This is a college, not a daycare!”

“Big brother, what are we going to do?” Sakura whined, as she slapped her forehead in frustration. This was turning into a complete Cardcaptor’s nightmare.

This turned some heads. It isn’t everyday a teenager call a ten year-old kid big brother. Touya scratched his head nervously, then kicked his sister warningly on the shins. “Sakura, be careful.”

“Ahhh…what she meant was he’s a big brother now because he has a new sister,” Syaoran announced, hoping that they wouldn’t ask any further questions. “There is nothing suspicious here.”

They didn’t and others went back to what they were doing, much to the trio’s relief.

“Sakura, maybe it is wiser if you should refrain from calling me big brother for now,” Touya told her. “You don’t want to catch attention to yourself, do you?” He eyed her up and down, from the dainty cap on her head to her adorable pink shoes. “You’re already catching unwanted attention as it is…”

She blushed, realizing her little blunder. “Okay.” Instinctively, clutching Syaoran’s hand. Usually, when she was nervous, she clutched Tomoyo’s hand. She innocently, took the nearest hand to her instead. “I’m sorry.”

Syaoran blushed and looked away but didn’t let go. Touya saw this and a deep frown marred his now childlike features. He didn’t like the brat and probably never will. He didn’t doubt that the feeling was mutual. If he wasn’t half his size at that moment, he’d have clobbered him now.

“Sakura-chan? Syaoran?” a familiar glasses-wearing, dark-haired teen asked. “My, my. What a surprise! I can see that you’re already in the case.”

“Eriol-kun?” Sakura’s jaw dropped. “Eriol-kun, is that you?” Eriol smiled and simply nodded in reply. “Eriol-kun, you look almost exactly like…”

“Our father...” Touya finished for her. Touya couldn’t believe it. The geeky, snot-nosed kid could pass as their father, if not for the hair. “That card got to you too?”

“I’m not the only one,” he said, nodding his head towards the girl beside him, which looked a lot like…

“Tomoyo-chan?” The three chorused. The girl with long, ebony black hair and wide, beautiful eyes giggled as she linked an arm through Eriol’s. There was something angelic about her. The angelic atmosphere was only something found in Tomoyo.

“Hi, Sakura-chan. I’m glad the costume I made you suits,” Tomoyo said, smiling good-naturedly. “Syaoran, did you notice that it’s been inspired by your costume?” She ran a hand down Syaoran’s jacket. “I just found the designs exquisite. I hope you don’t mind.”

The two captors groaned. “Hard not to, Tomoyo,” Syaoran muttered. “We look like we’re about to do a dance.”

“Touya-kun, why is everyone so loud?” A small voice cried. “Why are the grownups so frantic?”

They turned towards voice. They saw a small boy, rubbing his eyes sleepily like he had just come from his nap. His hair was messy and his glasses were askew and looked utterly and completely adorable.

“Yukito-san?” Sakura whispered.

Yukito looked up to her. “Onee-chan, why is everyone so noisy?” His stomach grumbled. “And I’m hungry…”

Tomoyo and Sakura were silent but looked at him with wide-eyed fascination. Suddenly, both girls squealed and ran towards the boy and began pinching and cuddling him. “Yukito-san is so cute!” They squealed together.

Syaoran, Eriol and Touya’s sweat dropped. What was it with girls and little boys? They see something cute and they turned into squealing fangirls. “Well, I guess we know why they were not born during Yukito’s childhood.”

“Did this thing get everybody?” Syaoran asked Eriol, trying to ignore the squealing girls who were now feeding Yukito with cakes and candies bought from a nearby vending machine. But since Yukito did not understand the situation, instead he just happily accepted their pampering.

Eriol chuckled, pushing his glasses back. “Well, not yet…”

They heard the screams from the computer club, which were only a few rooms away. Seconds later, sobbing little children scurried out of the room looking for their mommies. Sakura and Tomoyo began to remember the situation they were in again.

“We have to stop that card!” she cried, then turned to Eriol, looking for answers. “Eriol-kun, do you have any ideas?”

Eriol shrugged. “Four more clubs to go. All I can say is that we have to catch it before we run out of clubs” He folded his arms in front of him and leaned against the wall. “Because if we don’t, it will start circling the city…”

Syaoran frowned and clenched his fists angrily. “We’ve got to stop it before then.”

Sakura nodded, patting Yukito lightly on the head. “If only we knew the pattern that card uses, we might be able to predict where it will go next.”

Tomoyo began to hum a song, trying to entertain the young Yukito. Yukito squealed with delight as he listened to the teenage Tomoyo . She had always had the natural talent for singing. Everyone knew that. Tomoyo’s voice was not taken from years of training. You can say, what she had was a natural gift.

Tomoyo’s voice had changed. She still had her angelic voice from when she was ten but now her voice was fuller and more mature and at was now really the voice of angels...it was even better than before.

Everyone in the hall stopped to listen. The hallway had suddenly become quiet.

Eriol’s expression softened as be gave a little applause. “Bravo, Daidouji-san! You now sound even better…”

Tomoyo blushed and shook her head. “You exaggerate, Eriol-kun,” she replied. “And please…call me Tomoyo?”
