Queen's note: I do not own Brigadoon, though I got a few more DVDs! n.n This is what happen when I'm bored with writing other fics and have the Brigadoon DVDs playing. No really point in this other then I thought it would be cute, minor fluff if that.

One a side note, if I keep this up I may have the most Brigadoon fics on FF-dot-net O.o

...cool! n.n

Let's just fly away!

By Omicron the IceQueen

It's was hot, far too hot for her liking. Not that she could do too much about it though, just stay in the shade and wait out the worst of the heat. She groaned when she realized that it wasn't even noon yet, and it was supposed to be broiling all day long…

Marin slumped further down against the tree she was sitting under, completely bored out of her mind as well as nearing heat stroke. She could use some ice cream…

"Mmm…"

Yes, ice cream sounded so good right now. The girl sighed forlornly, to bad she didn't have any money on her, she'd yet to get paid this week for her paper rote. Marin tilted her head back and stared up at the sky between the leaves of the tree.

It seemed like this was just going to be 'one of those days'. Marin idly wondered if it was really possible to have one's brains frilled. Mike had said something earlier that "You could fry a egg on the road today."

Hmm… maybe she should try that later if her brain didn't fry its self in her head.

The figure sitting in the higher branches of the tree finally registered in Marin's mind as she continued to stare dreamily up at the sky. Melan looked cool sitting like that.

Cool…?

"Your body is so cold, it's kind of weird."

"A monomakia's body temperature can be adjusted atomically as needed."

"Oh I guess that must come in handy."

Marin gasped as an idea hit her upside the head, "Melan-san!" she called eyes wide and hopeful.

The blue monomakia looked down at his dreamy eyed charge quizzically, "Yes Marin?"

"Can you come down here? Please?"

Melan sat up and unfolded his wings, easily lifting up and off his perch and floating down to Marin. He crouched down on one knee when she motioned him in sit by her. "Is there something wrong Marin?" he asked, then blinked as the girl glomped his middle. "Marin?"

"Cool…" she muttered happily into her guardian. Vaguely she heard Melan extended his appendages and placed one of vestal oval like attachments, his version of hands, one her shoulder and the other on the top of her head.

With a metal command Melan's battle mask slid into place. The gun-swordsman ran a quick scan, the appendage on Marin's head glowed faintly and text only he could see scrolled down the right side of Melan's optic.

"Marin, you are beginning to get a mild case of hyperthermia." Melen said trying vainly to get his charge unattached from his person. "You must get inside or to a cooler place."

Marin blinked and looked up, "Hyper-ther-me?"

"Hyperthermia," Melan corrected, "Commonly known as 'heat stroke' or 'sunstroke.' It is an acute condition resulting from prolonged exposure to heat or excessive exercise. The human homeothermal regulatory mechanisms become overwhelmed and thus unable to effectively deal with the heat. As a result the body temperature climbs uncontrollably."

"….what?" Marin blinked slowly up at her blue guardian.

"You are getting to hot and can get severely hurt if you stay out any longer." Melan simplified his perverse expiation.

"But you're cool…" was Marin's replay as she relaxed into Melan's middle.

"I…uhh…" the gun-swordsman razed an eye ridge as his optic close and the battle mask slid back. Oh, he saw what she meant. "I understand."

Melan shifted his grip on Marin as he stood up and moved so he was now in the spot Marin had vacated in favor of his lap. The gun-swordsman looked down at his charge as she dozed off, content for now. Crossing his ankles he pulled Marin up and back so her own back was against his front. Melan dropped his body temperature a little less then ten degrease, not to much though.

Marin woke and hour later, aware to brief but content gusts of air. She cracked open eye and peeked, wondering what it was, and saw a fan. Two fans actually. Coupled with the coolness on her back the girl was felling better. Wait, where did Melan get those? No, no she wasn't going to ask, just chuck it up to one of those things she was best off not knowing.

Yay! Her brain wasn't going to fry to a crisp! Hey, maybe she should try frying that egg…wait, were would she get an egg? They need the few eggs they did have in the tenement house and she'd feel really bad about taking one from a bird's nest…

Marin tilted her head back and her bright emerald green eyes looked up into the deep crimson orbs of Melan. She smiled, and was delighted to see that Melan smiled faintly back at her.

"Are you felling better now Marin?" the humanoid monomakia asked.

"Yes, I think I am. Arigatô Melan-san."

Melan inclined his head, "You are welcome."

The two stayed like that for a time, both enjoying one of the quite moments that was becoming rare now a days for them. Marin watched some wisps of clouds trough the screen of leaves; and seed of an idea stated to take root and grown in her mind as she tracked one of the clouds with her eyes. She started to day dream about the clouds and even the odd image of Brigadoon higher up in the sky. The girl's half lidded eyed snapped open as that seed of an idea bloomed.

Squirming free of Melan's first set of appendages she turned facing him. Marin used his chest to push her self up and stood on his thighs so she was at eye level with him, "Melan-san! We can go anywhere we want right?"

"That is correct Marin, we can." Melan looked at her with interest. Well, he thought to himself, she does seem to be better.

"Can we go some where then?" her eyes shining hopefully.

"Where would you like to go Marin?"

"Somewhere!" the girl chipped, "Anywhere! Let's just do something, even if it's just flying around the city. Can we please?"

Melan thought is over for a moment as he looked into his charge's green orbs. Well, he didn't see anything wrong by going and it would be better that she was with him then with any one else. The last thing they needed was for her to get it in her head again to go diving with Poikun. Oh sure, he knew that Poikun would never let anything happen to Crase, but really, the two had nearly scared the slag out of him that day when he couldn't fine Marin.

Best not repeat that kind of indecent. So, Melan Blue set the fans down and retraced his second set of appendages and used the others to pick Marin up as he stood. The girls gave a happy squeal and hugged the humanoid monomakia as his wings snapped open, he hovered forward tell he had a clear path to the open air above. Melan rose up, slowly turning as he did so, Marin liked to look around at everything when they were flying (but not when they were in the middle of a fight of course).

Once up at a conferrable height Melan slowed and then leaned back so that he was now flying facing Brigadoon. Marin rolled and shifted and then she was laying flat on his chest facing up as well.

"It's so pretty." She said, tilting her head back she asked hopefully, "Melan-san, why are the monomakia after me?" she didn't expect him to really answer her this time, "Can you tell me now?"

"No," crimson eyes looked down at the girl, "I am sorry but I can not tell you yet. So not worry, I will protect you Marin."

"Aww…! You never tell me anything!" Marin pouted.

"I will tell later, when you are ready Marin."

"Really!" she looked back up.

"Yes, but only when you are ready."

"You promise?"

Melan inclined his head, "Yes, I promise Marin." The gun-swordsman wondered what could have happened to Marin, Crase, to make her forget who and what she was. They would soon have to go to Brigadoon and he would have to explain to Marin that she wasn't really a human, but a monomakia. A very special type of monomakia true but a monomakia nonetheless.

For now however, Melan watched with amusement as Marin lost interest in that subject and she threw out her arms as if she felt like she could hug both worlds. Melan was sure she would have if she could. He rolled again letting Marin see the city, it looked so peaceful from up here.

"Oh, it's so fun to fly!" Marin's voice sang out, this was one of her little songs she'd made up.

Melan noted that this one song of Marin's in particular was one she only sang when the two of them were flying together. She didn't even share it with the one called Grandmother Moto, who she almost all ways shared every song or poem to.

"I feel like I can touch the sky!"

The gun-swordsman felt something inside him, not something physical, just a kind of 'feeling.' He was somehow…glad that Marin would only sing that little song when she was with him. And thinking on it, he realized that she did only sing that when no one else but him was around. Melan took pleasure in that, though he did not know why.

"We'll just fly away,"

Yes, they would. Soon they would have to go back to Brigadoon. Marin would do her duty as a Crase and not only stop the Mutual Collapse but hopefully purge the influence of the Renegade.

…the influence the Renegade had over the other Gun-swordsmen as well. Melan felt a pain in his heat, so many thought that he was a renegade when he was not. Yes, he did take Crase from Brigadoon along with Poikun and Kushiton (though how they never got labeled as renegades he never figure out) but he was saving her from the true Renegade. Melan blue knew that he would die before Marin would fall into the tainted grasp of the Central Console.

True there was some who were not in the Renegade's shadow, but most didn't know the truth of what was going on like the Chairman Lolo.

"And leave everything for the day!"

Melan hoped that his charge would forgive him for doing more then that. After the day of Pasca, Marin would have to remain on Brigadoon for the next day of Pasca. He hoped that she would understand then that she would not be able to come back to this Funny World for a long time. Melan also hoped that she wouldn't blame him for doing his duty, for he knew how much the young girl loved her tenement family.

"Come on! Let's ride a rainbow! Look through the clouds, at the all the worlds we can see."

Marin… Melan looked down again at the girl as she laugh when he rolled a few time slowly and rose higher up. Please forgive me when the Day of Pasca comes.
