This World

The world was a dark, cold and foreboding place. Everything he had held close to him had been torn away: his treasures, his future, his best mate, and what’s worst, his love, his home. There was nothing more left for him. But a bit of rum and a nagging hunger sparked his determination. He would avenge them all. He would get what was his back, and he would make them pay.

Yes, it was true he contemplated death by his own hand many a time. But it seemed his dark lady lurked in his mind, for his thoughts always turned to her, and he would remember. He would get his revenge if it was the last thing he did.
