Eric sighed as the doctors checked him over and declared him fit for release. When Horatio came to pick him up, Eric apologized.

“I’m sorry,” he said.

“For what?”

“For giving you such a hard case.”

Horatio grunted. “That wasn’t hard compared to some. I’m just glad you’re ok,” he said sympathetically.

“Me, too. I’m also glad we’re driving, not flying,” he answered back. “I think I’ll stay off the planes for a while.”

After the first hour of the drive, Eric fell asleep. Around sixteen hours later they reached the crime lab.

Marisol came running out to meet her brother. “Eric!” She cried as he hugged her.

“Hey, sis,” he said. “It’s good to be back.”

“It’s good to have you back,” she said. “I don’t know how to cook!”

Alexx smiled as she saw Eric. “Hey,” he said.

“Hey, baby,” she said with a grin, giving him a hug. “Have you eaten? You look very skinny.”

Eric grinned and shook his head. “I only lost ten pounds,” he said teasingly, “I needed to loose them anyway.”

Eric’s mother came running to great them. She gave Eric a huge hug and spoke in rapid Spanish before switching to English.

“Oh, Eric,” she said, “I’m so sorry… so sorry.”

“It’s not your fault, Mama,” Eric said, giving her a hug back. “You didn’t know, you couldn’t know, I didn’t tell anyone.”

“I am still sorry,” she said. “Come. I will make some of it up to you. Have you eaten?”

Alexx and Horatio watched the trio walk off happily. “I’m glad that’s over for them,” Alexx said. “It wasn’t a great experience for the rest of us either.”

“Yes, but it did bring us closer together, I think,” Horatio said.
