Chapter One: The Rich
There were two types of people in this world: The rich and the poor. Kairi Hanoi was among the richest of the rich, considering she was a princess. She went to Destiny High School. The school was a complete mess, and was always being threatened by what’s called the “nobodies.” These “nobodies” were the only ones who were blamed for the bomb threats, false fire drills, and the so-called hurricane warnings.
Despite the ugliness inside the school, the outside was beautiful. The rows and rows of every type of flower you could think of, the swing sets that people made out on, and nicely cut football, Blitzball and soccer fields, and the pretty red door at the entrance were probably the only reasons their parents sent their kids to the school.
The bell rang. Students rushed out into the hallways to get home. They passed the cockroaches in the bathrooms and the birds that laid their eggs in nests on top of lockers every day just to do this. Kairi always stopped at her locker and talked to one of her best rich friends and cousin, Namine.
”So are you going to Homecoming?” Namine asked, polishing her nails. Kairi sighed sadly. Lately she had been so lonely up in her room. She was getting tired of trying to pile the money up in her closet (literally) and honestly only wanted somebody to love her for who she was… and not how much money she had, unlike her boyfriend Leon.
”I don’t think so.” Kairi shut her locker and started to walk with Namine. The short, blonde girl followed and tried to keep up in her white high heels.
”You have to! Aren’t you going with Leon?”
Kairi shrugged and opened the school doors. They were exposed to the hot sun after being locked up in school for hours on end. Her and Namine lived right next to each other in the “rich neighborhood.” They’ve been best friends since they were in diapers.
”Remember how we used to trade money with each other and play dress-up?” Namine asked dreamily, obviously noting something in the past. This is what rich people talked about. However, Kairi was sick of it. Having money was nice, but love seemed to be on her mind more and more. Namine was still in the ihavemoremoneythanyou mode.
Everyday they passed the ghetto, where all of the nobodies lived. Kairi sometimes felt sorry for them, but her family didn’t let her show it.
Flashback
”Daddy, shouldn’t we give them some money?” Asked little Kairi as they passed the trashy streets of Nobody Lane.
”No, dear. They don’t deserve it.” He said. “They’re only poor because their parents couldn’t stop drinking or smoking pot.”
”Oh…” Being young, Kairi didn’t really understand what he meant.
End of Flashback
But she understood now.
”Hey, who’s that brown-spiky haired kid with the weird clothes?” Namine pointed. Kairi looked over and saw who she was talking about. He was kicking a soccer ball against a wall all by himself. She had seen him around school, but he was a nobody, therefore she didn’t know his name.
”I don’t know.” They walked on. Kairi took one last glance at him. He didn’t seem too happy; more like pissed for some reason. Her and Namine parted to their houses.
Kairi’s house was humungous. It had four stories, twelve bedrooms and two guest rooms. The kitchen was especially big with a long, beautifully carved wooden table. A chandelier hung over it filling the room with light. Sometimes Kairi felt that they didn’t really need all of these things, but her parents, being casho-holics, spent money on everything in sight.
Her room had enough space for three beds. She had two mirrors on either side of her room and a beautiful pink curtain hanging over the window. Kairi’s bedroom was on the second floor.
She had three brothers; two of which still lived in the house. Her little brother, Kei, always got on her every last nerve. On the other hand, her older brother Ken was usually in his room up on the top floor playing video games or something, so he never bothered her much.
Strangely, Kairi’s parents had two bedrooms that were considered theirs and that the kids were not allowed to enter unless they were in there. Sometimes when Kairi’s mother would get angry at her father, they would sleep in separate rooms.
They also had a telephone in almost every room. Kairi herself had three cell phones, but only used one. Her parents would always get her everything, whether she asked for it or not. She had a crazy life.
Sometimes Kairi would take her dog, Miko on walks just to escape her family. Sure, everyone thought they were perfect, but Kairi was hurting inside. She couldn’t stand the fact that she was part of the ‘rich kid’ stereotype and that it was the only reason people liked her. Sometimes she even wanted to make friends with the nobodies, but they all glared at her with a hating passion. She couldn’t stand the stereotypes.
So that day she decided to take Miko out for a walk around the block. Her parents forbid her to go anywhere near the ghettos, but Kairi walked by there a lot anyway. Miko was obsessed with peeing on every plant that surrounded a mailbox he could find, so Kairi didn’t really like to walk him too much. She had to pull him away constantly.
She came back to Nobody Lane. Now there was another boy that joined the one her and Namine saw earlier. They were kicking the ball to each other. The other boy had blondish-brown hair that spiked up to the side and was wearing cheap looking black pants and a white jacket. He saw Kairi staring over at them and told the other boy. Kairi gasped and hurried off, not even daring to look back.
Kairi didn’t know why, but she kind of thought that other boy with the dark brown spiky hair was cute. She knew she shouldn’t be thinking that kind of thing, especially when she had a boyfriend, but she couldn’t help but blush. There was something about his hair that shot in all directions, his black attire and his blue eyes that made her wonder if he would ever even think to give her a chance…
A/N: If you’re wondering about the name of the high school, I couldn’t think of one. If you likey, review! Ja ne!
